Regarding Grandville: The lag generated there appears to be machine related, not particularly connection related (within reason). For example, I am on a very slow DSL connection, but experience no lag within the zone. A SG mate with a much faster connection but lower end machine is constantly having problems there. There have been some rather exhaustive discussions by people who have performed some rather in depth graphical analysis in the tech forums, but those may have been cleaned in the last purge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Grandville lag has a well-known solution.

    More computer memory.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is only a partial solution. It also requires either a nice graphics card or much lower settings than other zones. However, the point I was responding to was someone asserting that Grandville lag was caused by his connection being only DSL, which is HIGHLY unlikely.

This paying customer is truly depressed and let-down...way to make heroes the focus of this game...you better make I13 about villains and villains only

Or what? You're going to take your ball and go home?

Word of advice devs...hire a seperate team for villains...if you truly think that this is a seperate game, heroes shouldnt develop for villains...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why because some 14yo little twit with no concept thinks he's entitled or owed something.

Word of advice kid, learn to use proper tone. Devs don't owe you a damned thing. You're here by choice. Deal.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, to be fair, since we are paying for the game on a continuous, monthly basis, the Devs do owe us something, since we supply their salaries. Maybe not pandering to our slightest whims, but I feel they need to be held responsible to what the player/customer base wants to some extent. Granted it still comes down to talking with your money and if you are unhappy, you can take your money elsewhere. But to say the devs don't owe us a damed thing? That is a bit of an exaggeration.

I think having a separate team for Villains sounds like a decent idea. Sure the posters tone was bad, but still...

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem with this is the assumption that noone playing villains wanted the powersets offered.

The weapon sets for Brutes have been asked for pretty much since CoV launched. I personally think SR will be fun to try with a Brute. More examples could be given.

And while only one of my personal 'i really hope they transfer that' powers made it, I know several people who are happy about several of the other powers that are being decried as unacceptable on these boards.

Villains just will not stack up against a group of heroes with Therm Buffs, Emp Buffs and Cold Buffs as well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, except for the Dull-Pain-Other of Cold, Heroes already HAD all the buffs in question in other powersets. That is why many primarily hero players are probably confused about the cries of Armaggedon from buffs being brought across.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am not sure why Hertz replied to me in his post above, but I meant my response to directly address the combination of outcry about powerboost combined with new buffs. My point was that heroes already had access to Powerboost and the buffs being ported over...so I do not see sudden new power abilities being added. Just different mixes available in a given number of players.

its lord recluse on the big screen/PA system that is lagging the zone down

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only partially. Much of the lag has to do with the type of texturing (the web, etc) as well as the fact that the buildings are double-layer elements. It essentially is like someone built all of Grandville with stock existing CoH buildings, then built all the Grandville specific textures slightly enlarged on top of them. This is why you can get caught between the pieces of many of the buildings in the zone (stuck between the outer and inner walls).

Also, this engine renders many more objects than it should are not visible. So when you enter Grandville, you get the webs (bad for many) and two complete cities with ridiculous amounts of details/parts/etc.

The streaming video would indeed cause a bandwidth problem, but (as stated in the earlier post), I have very low end DSL and have no bandwidth issues in the zone. I could easily see it blowing dial-up out of the water, though.

Grandville lag has nothing to do with the amount of people. Grandville was built poorly. (It takes 5% more memory of my 2 GB than other zones, even off hours on Triumph.)

Oh and make patrons respec-able...only fair.

    [/ QUOTE ]
How about this. Keep patrons unrespec-able, but add a couple of APPs instead.

As it is, all four Patrons offer pretty much the exact same powers to each AT, so what exactly would you be hoping from a respec out of them? They give you a free respec after the 1st portion of the arc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't say anything about the amount of people in grandville. I just said many people have told me it's laggy for them. It was laggy when I had cable service, its still laggy even now on DSL Elite.

No other area no matter how many people are in zone, even Cap's black market which is very crowded so it must be something about Grandville.

As the the patron's, if they add APP's, or change or tweak anything even a single power they would have to grant a one-time patron respec to everyone that has done it.

That may be the fly in the soup that is stopping anything from being done with them, or maybe there are other priorities and not enough time. I really couldn't say, and I'm not going to stress over it. If it can be worked on it will, in time.

However being a Villain only player...I am not complaining. Just suggesting...there is a difference.

Storm for Masterminds? You're [censored] kidding right? Tell me you're [censored] kidding.

Those Epic Archetypes had better be something special. Ill. I feel ill. What did they do? Just list the possible new secondaries and pick the one that would mesh the least? No buffs or shields for pets. Knockback. Knockback. And more Knockback.

For corruptors, yes, storm makes a fun secondary. Paltry compared to cold domination, but fun. For MMs? Please.

    No. No. No.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I personally think a ranged/Storm MM would be hilarious to play...although it would be solo just to avoid the nightmare caused on teams.

If you like certain powersets being ported over, more power to you. however i'm looking at what all AT's get, that's what pvpers do. Large part of being proficient in the arena or zone for that matter is being aware of the capabilities/holes of every powerset/AT you may run into.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only partially correct. PvPers look at powers from the perspective of how it affects PvP (which is understandable). However, many non-PvPers may be happy with the powersets because they wanted them for variety reasons.

It's just a matter of what someone is wanting to get that colors whether or not they think this issue/topic is 'good.'

    Brutes:
Get a Defensive set... Ok let me get this straight. Brutes can't get Ice Powers because the slows cause the enemies to hit the brute less thereby decreasing Fury generation. But the can get defense based armors which prevent enemies from hitting them at all? I don't get it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As has been mentioned many times in this thread, as well as on the Brute boards since launch: fury is generated when someone attacks you...they don't need to hit for it to work.

  12. Of course, I believe according to the attribute monitor damage isn't capped either. I believe the popular theory that was posted about this was that maybe it didn't check/cap until attack activation, but that was guessing.

I don't have the link to the guy that reached +1575% damage by eating reds and posted his (very funny) screen cap of it....

    [ QUOTE ]

No it really doesn't. There's no sympathy for most of of you folks because you simply don't deserve any. All of the big complainers I've seen have forum reg dates no later than 2005. That means most of you have played through every other 2x weekend and most of the big events that's happened since release. If you couldn't see the writing on the wall it's because you shut your eyes to it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Odd how it's hard to choose to ignore something that's different than it has been in the past. In previous events the problems were lag and occasional server crashes, we've never been (IIRC) intentionally capped. My (mistaken) belief was they increased the capacity of their clusters specifically to address those problems. I'd like to have known in advance that intentional capping was going to occur especially without a queuing mechanism.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, they did announce they would be limiting logins. Also, the servers were upgraded (as per a dev post), but Freedom exceeded the new capacity as well.
  14. So...I questioned your statement that a power is useless because a) ONE monster in the ENTIRE GAME can shoot through it and b) it has a 30 second timer, and you responded with that much bile? Wow.

Well I see the idea but I think it's just too' lazy of the Devs not explain why he can now hit you though PS.
I think a better fix would've been to just make him ignor anything that's PSed. PAs included. That would solve the tanking prob.

    [/ QUOTE ]

He's a living organism; he adapted to his environment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, so going by that argument my tank that's been around since I1 has been adapting to his environment by apparently de-volving over the last 3 years. He can't resist or do damage like he once could, can't attack as quickly as he once could, can't seem to get up to speed for a few seconds after attacking like he once could, is now susceptible to a variety of status effects that were of little consequence to him previously... the list goes on an on.

So, just for the record, player characters adapt by devolving over time, NPC foes adapt by evolving over time. Yup, great way to develop a game.

But as the OP said, I think stuff like this, combined with the "evolved" hostage stealth suppression, finally puts the final nail in the concealment pool's coffin.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    (Blink)
So you only took phase shift to deal with Hamidon? If so, then yes, it makes phase shift useless to you because of one specific raid level monster.

I still get a great kick out of using it in the rest of the game, personally.

Inventions has been touted as something that shelved level 50's can partake in. Level 50's that have completed all their story arcs already. Please, how can both of those occur? Level 50's can not experience IO's if they are locked out of acheiving specific rewards because they happened to hit the level cap before I9.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's like I said, we are looking into other options that keeps the mechanic of the four pool system. Our intention is to not make people feel "gimped" for previously completing all their story arcs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Fear and anger temporarily subsiding...

For myself, I made sure I had one character on each side that went through EVERY mission, that way I could freely team up with SG members who play less and not be worried about trying to get my arcs/missions accomplished in order to see them. To have gone through that pain and be told "too bad, you're screwed" is a tad...irritating.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    Hey gang,

We are going to implement a couple changes to make this better. The early brokers will only require 3 missions and 1 heist to introduce a new contact. In addition, if a group completes a broker mission everyone on the team will get credit toward a heist that will lead to a new contact introduction. This should help keep you from leveling out of content. Just like in City of Heroes, if you start a Story Arc in City of Villains you will always be allowed to finish it—even if you outlevel it. If you miss a contact entirely, you can still Exemplar with a less experienced hero who has the correct Story Arc assigned to him or her in order to hunt down any pesky badges you may have missed.

    Cheers,

    Sean

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not meaning to nit-pick, but I am kind of upset over not having the chance to get badges because I missed the magical contact combo (I chose Heck).

    To address Manticore's points-
    (1) As of last night, it only took 3 missions to unlock the heist for the brokers.
    (2) So the group gets credit...encouraging group play...which INCREASES the chance to outlevel the contacts unless all of you strategically plan and grab the arcs in advance.
    (3) Leaving us with the exemplaring option for story arcs. Doable, but a bit lame.

    ---
A better solution might be to have something in game INFORM people that certain arcs give badges and you will outlevel them. That way they know to grab the arcs ahead of time.

I made a character to be a badge collector, and only did the minimum number of missions to get the contacts. Unfortunately I did the contacts in the wrong order and the only badge I have for the early arcs is the Outbreak one from Radio. No street hunting, no extra newspaper missions, no teaming to boost xp. Just running the missions.
It's just a very irritating game mechanic. *shrug*
  18. Re: Getting higher level SO rewards

While that is annoying, I just had a very funny experience along the same lines. My level 29 controller completed a story arc (level 25-30) and received...a level 13 SO. I have no idea why, but I have kept it because it is so funny.
