This seems to be the way to go in the grand scheme of things with RPers you're unfamiliar with, treat "official" arcs vaguely enough to sidestep any issues. Which also means it's time for my VG to go to war.
  2. Yup.

Made up this great (to me, anyway) backstory, costume, and powers concept. Then I finally get a chance to RP him, and... yeah... his personality didn't fit with anything I have going on Blueside. I decided he's best served as a martyr and had him killed off for reelz. Just need to clean out his inventory one of these days. >.>
  3. I have a few in the 1600+ days offline club on random servers from back in the day before I settled on Virtue. As for Virtue itself, I have a Inv/EM Tank that's been shelved for over 60 days and counting.

I'm also available for RP debate/arguing, weddings, and bar mitzvahs.
  5. If you're interested in a robotic opponent, feel free to look me up @The New Black. I have an ebil robot MM out to eradicate organic life. Character is called Steelbane now, but a virtueverse page with the background (if wrong name, shuffled characters around) can be found here.

Bit of a bassackwards way of doing it, I guess, but yeah, pretty much. Looking to pair Invulnerable with.... something... for a melee character that would have the best overall defense (Def and Res) possible after Stone. I fully admit I'm no good with number crunching here though.

Okay, so optimize the builds for the ATs. Then what happens?

  9. Between an Inv/Elec Tanker, Elec/Inv Scrapper, and Elec/Inv Brute, split into one on one fights.
    Tanker vs Scrapper
    Tanker vs Brute
    Brute vs Scrapper

All things being equal, just using base powers and the exact same slotting and same attack chain as much as possible. Who would win the most straight up, just hitting each other back and forth, number of fights? Or at least get the most wins if you need to make a series of fights to deal with the Scrapper inherent. Looking to see who has the best overall numbers, pretty much.
  10. I've argued with Eiko about this repeatedly, and decided it's time to get some other input.

Eiko prefers to be able to claim storyline victories in the game like having personally beaten notable NPCs, thusly proving she is on their level. I don't really see the point to making such claims, as for all intents and purposes, most 50's have done the same thing, so there's no real bragging rights value to it, never mind the status quo of the game world.

But that's the thing. What exactly is the status quo of the game world?

In the grand scheme of City of Heroes, the Freedom Phalanx are the top team, correct? They are for all intents and purposes, the “big leagues” like the Justice League or the Avengers. However, I have never actually played the storylines very thoroughly in CoH. Is a PC ever considered an official member of the FP? As I understood, the closest a PC gets is something like reserve member status of the FP.

Granted, one can say that a knowledgeable player on a purpled out level 50 can take on a max level Hero one on one and win, but that's not what I'm getting at. This is purely in-story. As far as the storyline of the game goes, Statesman is supposed to be more powerful than a PC can get, correct?

As for City of Villains, it's a bit of a different story. Advertising leads one to believe that Arachnos are the big dogs of the Rogue Isles. I'm being told this is debatable, however, and for example, one could make arguments that Lady Grey is just as “powerful” as Lord Recluse. On a similar note, while it's not so much of an issue in CoH, in CoV, regardless of who it is there needs to be someone keeping the villains in check to prevent total chaos in the Isles. Villains are like that, they tend to make powerplays, but the setting is a fairly static MMO, making it rather pointless to say something like you've taken over Port Oakes or have tea with Nemesis.

In the sense that a PC can't overthrow those in charge in CoV due to game mechanics, is there a story explanation for this? Are Arachnos supposed to be beyond the scope of something the PCs can deal with? For example, in the patron arcs, you beat a future version of Recluse, not the modern day Recluse. Recluse then counts you as an equal to his lieutenants, (Mako, GW, BS, and Scirocco) but, if memory serves, not as a -personal- equal.

Another option in the grand scheme of “who is preventing villain PCs from outright taking over the world” are of course the Freedom Phalanx. But as I understand, if you beat the Lord Recluse Strike Force, you -do- beat the FP. Not like outright kill them, you “comic book” beat them, essentially proving you are a match for the super hero big leagues.

So in game terms, (other than the static status quo of the game) what's preventing an accomplished level 50 villain with allies of similar power from doing whatever they want? Are we just supposed to assume it's the neverending battle between good and evil? So even if you do get a victory, the heroes (or other villains) will eventually rally back and defeat you?
  11. Most RP SG/VGs tend to stick to themselves for any one of a number of reasons. I'm currently trying to break the mold a bit to get RP out in the open. The University Park in Cap near the base portal is a nice spot. CoH, I know not what to tell you. The light over there is blinding to me to the point that I limit my time in shiny happy people land.

Pocket D is... unique. Just avoid anything with cat ears and a tail or resembling a succubus and you should be fine. Approach plain clothes, John Smith named characters with caution. And always try to listen in a conversation before jumping in. To this day I'm amazed at the number of players who go to a public zone like D, park in some high traffic area to start gabbing away about whathaveyou, and then get annoyed and run off when someone else starts talking to them.

The VirtueRPConnect thread is a good place to find other RPers, even if it is overrun with the goody goody types.

I check for bios while roaming around if the name or costume strike me as unique to see how fleshed out a character is. I don't always have the opportunity to read them though, especially the looong ones, in the MOAR XP NAO! mindset of the PuGs I tend to find myself in.

Hehe. Character watching has it's drawbacks though. Broke down a few day ago and dragged my VG to D for a change of pace. And during the course of the time we were there, I actually lost track of the pairs of legs in miniskirts and high heels sauntering around.
  14. Talons/pointy fingertips/"Monstrous" hands as an option for Claws, pretty pretty please with a cherry on top.
  15. I did have that on actually, but I had the sound off for most of the episode. >.<
  16. Updating things again since it's been a while. The Supreme Society is rebuilding after a thwarted coup attempt. Now's the time to get in for the start of a new era of world domination!

And, um, yeah... activity took a bit of a hit with that other superhero MMO and that wacky school silliness you whippersnappers do around this time. But we are still here, and still ready to go.

    Name: The Supreme Society

Currently Recruiting: We are currently recruiting heavy Roleplayers of all levels and ATs.

RP Level: Heavy, but of course some things are better discussed OOC.

PvP Level: Light-ish. We periodically set up RP-based casual PVP events against rivals, in particular our in-house rivals The Global Guard. Please note that participation in our PvP events is highly encouraged but ultimately not required. The RP and RPvP encounters between the Society and the Guard will also be planned out when possible, either at the Monday night meetings or on the SS forums. I do want to stress though that these encounters are of a casual, fun nature, and no “pwns j00” type actions or excessive RP “drama” will be tolerated or encouraged. In addition, most of the time the encounters will have set outcomes anyway, so PVP skill level, numbers of players, or character levels will rarely be a deciding factor.

Theme/Concept: The Supreme Society is a group of comic book style supervillains, similar to DC's Secret Society/Legion of Doom or an evil version of the modern Marvel Squadron Supreme. The long term goal of the Society is world domination. The short term goal of the Society is amassing power in any and all means. Once world domination is accomplished (hey, a guy can plan longterm and the Supreme Society is the dominant force, those operating under the Society banner will be able to go about their schemes as they please as long as those schemes do not interfere with the Supreme Society remaining in power.

BIG UPDATE: Previously, the Teen Tyrants were a separate VG entirely, but they've since been folded into the Society. They exist in name as a rank in the Society, but they are acknowledged as a separate group who work with the Society, and they have their own base.

As far as the concept of the Tyrants, think an evil version of the Teen Titans, pretty much. They will be a training ground of sorts for “evil” teens, and they will work alongside and occasionally be mentored by members of the Society. Any Supreme Society contact can also invite to the Teen Tyrants.

Activity: Primary hours seems to be after 9PMish, EST, but many members have different schedules.

Requirements for Membership: You must be a heavy roleplayer. Your character must be a comic book style supervillain with a sensible background. Examples of "comic book supervillains" are Magneto, Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Ultron, Dr. Doom, etc, etc. Essentially eccentric personalities. (Capes are not required but will get you brownie points.) Potential recruits will go through a brief OOC/IC interview before joining.

Teen Tyrant characters should be about 13ish to 19 years old.

    Leadership: Agonus

Other Details: VG meetings are Monday nights at 10:30PM, EST. Wednesday night is a VG activity night, starting at 10PMish, EST. Said activities range from running RP missions to RP and/or RPvP encounters with rivals, that sort of thing. SFs are periodically on Sundays. The base is currently undergoing renovation, but will be fully functional and extra nifty upon completion. Alts are also allowed.

Not ultimately winning. Just getting a minor victory (to get the ball rolling on the back and forth aspect) over the heroes is too much to ask of some of the "great and powerful" SGs out there.

It boggles my mind that there are so many RP SGs out there that claim to be Golden and Silver Age style heroes, yet they want to respond to -any- villainous activity with a tactical nuke. And that's not even getting into the "modern" groups.

    Character Bios

I was pretty good at starting with a bio for a while. Then I switched to a “Bio to follow” note, rarely ever filling anything in still. And now more often than not I'll just put an MRP note and -maybe- an RP note or two.

I have three bios I'm happy with (out of about 10 characters I play regularly) but sadly the best one is for a character I don't even play much anymore. Out of the others I have, I am fond of a robot character whose AFK typing message (“Loading”) and bio (Something like “Destroy all humans!” which is like 3 or 4 lines long after conversion) are in binary.

Alpha I recognise the pain, I don't even know who the big hitters are in regards the SGs/VGs on Virtue, there's a crapton of smaller ones but very few big overarching organisations like the Corporation, Unity Vigil etc.
I'm pretty sure I have a good idea of who the big RP VGs and SGs are on Virtue. But dealing with them is another matter entirely.

I don't forum RP much, but my VG on Virtue has tried organizing big events with other VGs and SGs multiple times. Oh how we've tried, and had pretty much every excuse thrown back at us.
    -You're too small.
    -You're too big.
-Who needs other groups when you have AE stories to write?
-RPvP? What are you, crazy? / These "Yo mama!" insult fests are boring!
-What? Villains win? What are you, crazy?
-Keep RPing with you guys? Screw that, we're going to CO.

We had ONE large event work out at first (about 20 people in the Arena) and even then all but one of the opposing players dropped off the face of the earth, preventing any follow up. However, said player came back and joined us, proving to be a great player, but still.

All for hearing ideas on getting big events to work though.

    * By the way; using a defense debuff or eating a yellow greatly increases the chance of doing damage with Self Destruct. Temps/Inherents can't be damage boosted, but can be accuracy boosted.
Same here, and Self Destruct came in handy during an RP scene the other night, when someone made an offhanded comment along the lines of "You might want to step back, he may explode." and you could of seen the lightbulb going off over my head. I don't get as much use out of either as I do with the SuperTailor though.

And Ninja Run is nifty in lower levels, and even better since I discovered that NR speeds up Prestige Power Slide but you keep the PPS animation. And it's also nice for at least a giggle or two to see NR on some of the more non-Ninja characters.

After playing around with some new alts, I'd probably place the Warrior/Tai costume pieces as on par with my previous favorites in the Magic pack
  23. 45 months, plus a few Re-Names, Additional Character slots, and the GvE, Valkyrie, Cyborg, Magic, Science, and Ninja packs... let's see... multiply by.... hate math...carry the 1...

About $830 spent on the game for me.

    ???/Storm help

Working on a concept character where Storm will be the secondary, but I'm at a loss for a primary.

What sets have the best synergy with Storm? I'm leaning towards Cold, Sonic, or Energy for theme, but I'm open to ideas here. (I know Energy will have all the knockback, but I'd like to team, ever. >.>)
