Quote:Never a truer word.Could care less how my costume looks to other people, whether they like it or not is irrelevant to my costumes resolution... I'm not here to please them or cater to their subjective take on aesthetics or to play keep up with their graphics hardware.
It has to look decent to me on the graphics setting that I am using.
If for some reason players are having to use minimum or performance settings, they're not seeing the glories of higher resolution anyway; which means some of those newer pieces made to take advantage of higher resolutions just doesn't look right to some players sometimes; while the older pieces that cater to the lower resolutions work out just fine.
Even when the low res costume works for the player using it; there is always going to be a disparity between that player and the player at the higher end of the graphics scale... has been in in the past, will be in the future. High end graphics users will still balk and the decisions made by the low end users while the low end users will fail to see every last bit of detail the high end user put into his costume.
This especially holds true in the tranfer of a toon from the Tailor to the open game; where lighting and other factors come into play.
I remember *shudder* when I had to run CoX on my laptop. Ran smooth as a whistle, but only on minimum. It was....it....*ack*
Then I got my new rig. And a shiny 9800 GT gfx card.
The difference is ludicrous. While some pieces looked incredibly similar, some of them looked so different it was unbelievable. I had to edit more than one costume simply because the difference in colour tone and such actually changed between minimum and maximum. -

Quote:I'd concur with that. For example, Alpha has had dealings with Positron, in as much as Positron busted him when he first activated in Paragon (reasonable since he'e a Hero and a tech based one at that), and later in his career Alpha busted Positron right back (as done in-game, thus provable)I've been watching this thread, and I had a question that went in a bit of a different direction: what about interactions with NPCs?
Not relatives, but specific plotlines that involve main characters from the game. For instance, I recently (and when I say recently, I mean yesterday) was hit with an idea for a villain who'd previously been a hero, and worked with the Phalanx. So naturally, she has a vendetta against them. It gets deeper than that, but that's the part where I'm like "Eh," because it sounds Sue-ish, and I really don't like Mary Sues as much as the next person.
What do you guys think?
The Mary Sue point is also a good one. Its the instinct to try and make a character 'better', when what actually makes them better is to make them stand alone well and thus more unique. Your gut instinct was right
But yeah, interactions are valid, so long as they are also reasonable. -
Hopefully it's in the works. For now, we've got no idea though. It's been suggested a hell of a lot, and we can only hope it's being worked on.

/Signed. The limited hair on Widows without helms is idiotic. And I would kill for a helmetless option for SoAs.

Quote:That's frankly despicable. I really hope someone told them exactly where to shove such crass behaviour.Downtown Toronto was a mess of traffic, and some of our technicians were, obviously, stuck in traffic. We had more than one customer say "If your tech doesn't get here soon, I swear to God, I'm flying a (f-ing) plane into your building"
Humanity. Oh how sick you make me sometimes... -
Since it's a PvE Trial now, why not make the buff PvE only? That way the CoP badge (if there is one?) can unlock the IoP much like other badges unlock other base items.
I'd say that's a neat idea. And the 'cost' is needing the anchors and suchnot, to balance it out a bit. -
Quote:So, totally ignoring the fact that an Option 3, i.e. a menu overhaul which is much needed, is now being considered. So what was even the point of asking if you're just going to go against your original idea and cave in to the minority? "How dare you make my character look better!" I think having outdated textures sitting next to the new upgraded ones is just going to bloat the menu ridiculously.
Clearly your opinion is more valid than other peoples. -
I was just sat at home. It was a weekend, I think. Seems like the only reason I'd be sat watching TV in...was it the morning or the evening.
But even though I was fairly young back then, I still remember just sitting there, thinking "Oh god....what..? What the...?" -

I'd still love a purchaseable Vanguard Temp power that worked like a shapeshift power...
Maybe an unlockable clicky with a huge recharge?
And instead of changing into a nova or dwarf?
Turned ya into a VG HVAS. Let you pilot it.
So much win..../wishful thinking -
Quote:What, you mean the same way that the GR parts are only available to people who bought GR right now? Only you don't have to do some damn stupid arbitrary unlock to get them?Eh... Make them all unlock with a Praetorian Explorer badge.
Which one? All of them. Get one Explorer badge, get all the unlocks from Praetoria. That way you keep the "New pieces" in the hands of players who bought Going Rogue as an added benefit (above and beyond the current costume unlocks)

What Birdy said, really.
Now, I made my Crab Spider an Arbiter for a while. However, there were a number of stages to it.
First, and arguably the most provable, Riechsman SF. The badge is even called Arbiter. The character is level 45, and has the badge.
Second, it fitted the characters backstory to have him be put somewhere it was impossible for him to really do anything secretly. Being an Arbiter means just that; you are highly visible.
Third, I wanted to see if it was possible to actually RP an Arbiter without it being a heap of godmoding jobbies.
Ultimately, he quit the post, which made him a few more enemies and painted a few more targets on his back IC at least, because 1) the character himself got so sick of the paperwork and not actually being in the field and 2) it was dull as heck to play.
*shrug*
Thats as far as I took it. -
Quote:Legend. Seriously glad they made you lead Art Dev, dudeHey, guys. Just wanted to thank everyone for casting a vote and for helping us get a better picture of what the playerbase is thinking. Here's my takeaway from reading the 22+ pages of thoughts on the topic: Arguments on both sides were compelling to the point where a third option, perhaps involving the menu setup, seems like the best way to satisfy all parties. This is NOT a promise of future action, but it's the view I'll express on your behalf.
So yay--everyone wins.
We'll make every effort to create new pieces that give you all better options in areas that might be lacking. And don't worry, Option 2 folks--nothing will be removed from the system.
If anyone would like to comment further about specific costume pieces, please don't hesitate to post in the All Things Art thread.
Cheers,
Noble Savage

Quote:^ Well said right hereok this thread has understandably had massive hits but I want to throw a couple of points and questions here - though I may be at risk of repeating something I've missed not having read every single respone.
I've seen more votes for Option 1: this concerns me because that implies by default that all existing assets are broken. They are not and some items may work well... for example a blurry texture on a cossie item (head wings is a good example because comparative images are posted here): If I wanted to create an intangible creature maybe made of mist and air... I'd probably want something less well defined. That's an "off the cuff" example and adds flexibilty for very little cost.
Retaining the old items is only a database problem. They may well become unused over time, but if they aren't unused now, I'd suggest it's very bad policy to remove them unless there's a very pressing reason to do so.
Sure, I wholeheartedly support the concept of updating costume items to take better processing capability into account - but removing existing assets from the game should be avoided unless a clear case can be made for it.
I suspect that one of the main points for people voting for Option 1 is simply that as things stand there are too many options to search through easily. If we could get a better search function (PLEASE NOTHING LIKE THE AH GUI (just saying)) I suspect that would accommodate most peoples fears and not take up too much processing space.
Frankly I'm a bit surprised that some people would request the removal of costume assets - "new and shiny" doesn't always mean "better" so I'm a bit iffy about that and I wonder if some people have misunderstood the question.
And I'd 100% back an update for the CC UI (Although, yes, do NOT let whoever did the AH UI anywhere NEAR it, for pity sakes...) -

Well....thing is...
Uhm. How would a woman and the big guy...uh

Quote:I would love the resistance pistols too - maybe the devs are waiting for when I19 comes out and everyone will have access to Praeotira and they will make them unlockable with the resistance defeat badges

That is for washing out that mouth of yours
Unlock with defeats...pah!
Nemesis rifle, unlocks with the Unvelier badge! Worst thought out bit of 'reward' design ever!
Unlocks...pfft! -
Ah, Jack....funny man, funny funny man *smirk*
What a flippin' moron...
Oh, sorry, did I think that out loud? Damn these inner monologues

Quote:I hope you mean the English dub, dear chapNext, get anything by Miyazaki. Princess Mononoke is a great one to start with; it has plenty of action, interesting characters, and the American dub is full of top notch actors. If you like this movie, Miyazaki has a long list of fine, fine works.
By the sounds of it, the yankee dub somewhat mauled the story.
And Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Beautiful bit of animation. Hell, it has Ian McKellen doing the voice of Lord Yupa (who's badass
)
And Laputa, Castle in the Sky. And Porco Roso. And Howls Moving Castle (although the actual story petered off a bit in the end, to my mind). And you have to watch Spirited Away, which duely deserved all the awards it won.
Series wise? Read and watch Fullmetal Alchemist. Fantastic concept and story. Beautifually drawn and writen, and then animated.
Hellsing is another good one. Interesting story and very full of Action, yet without taking itself overly seriously. Copious ammounts of blood, though. Oh, and you'll have an evil little smirk every time you think of sparklepyres and exactly Alucard would do to them

Quote:Rifles, chap. Riffling is what you do with someone elses pocket or wallet, to see if theres anything of worthWe need the resistance pistols and riffles for 2 reasons:
It just make sense since we got the costume set
We need some weapons with glowing parts!
Concerning Nightstar blades, we need to get them because they look so badass! Would be perfect for dual blades.
But yeah, some actual high-tech looking weapons outside of the VG Redding Rifle would be fantastic.
And the Clockwork arm-blades would work for Dual Blades and claws. So I see a Win/Win there. -

Quote:...If they do a Furry Booster, maybe they'll add things like floppy/animated bunny ears.
Since I dislike the Mutant Pack but would really love the fluffy dog/wolf/raccoon tail, I'm hoping there will be a Furry Pack sooner rather than later.
*twitch*
I blame the negative conotations dumb people have associated with that word for my urge to get annoyed when it's used.
But yeah, would be so freaking happy if they finally made a pack of decent Anthro parts...
