Quote:I-95 might be Zombie Migration Path heaven, though. It's a path through almost every major Atlantic seaboard town. Miami, Jacksonville, Savanna, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC, Hartford (sorta), Providence and Boston. It skips Atlanta and cities in the Carolinas, but it's still a likely horrible place to be. Lots of crashes and graveyards on the roads, and wandering zombies would be everywhere along the route. Basically, it's the exact type of area you'd want to stay 100 miles away from in a zombie apocalypse. Not really sure exactly how dumb it was - at least it was a plan of some sort. Considering where they are in Georgia they are probably relatively close to Savannah and from there they might be able to travel up or down I-95 to get to somewhere more significant like Jacksonville or even Washington DC.
It's one of the reasons I had to laugh at one of the characters describing the western states as "they're called fly-over states for a reason." Yes, yes they are. Wide open spaces and low population numbers for their size. Basically, just where you want to be when you're trying to avoid hordes of walking undead.
Heading east (needing to go near/around/through Atlanta) does indeed seem like a stupid idea. -
Wasn't it basically that at level 50, you got an extra three slots (so, 6 total at level 50), so that you could 6-slot your level 49 power if you wanted to? That seems to be what I remember.
-
Willpower and Shield have them, but Stone Armor only has a Dull Pain clone (Earth's Embrace).

Overheard at a Michael Bay Press Conference:
MB - "Listen, I could do this right, and keep the backstory correct, and keep the fanboys happy. Or, for 40 million extra in effects, I could make them ALIENS! How cool is that?! Sure, sure, some nerds will be angry. But when you see how these turtles can fly with their alien wings, I'm sure we'll be bringing in the dough. Also, while martial arts are cool, most kids these days realize that guns are cooler, so we're going to update their weaponry a bit. So they're not so much ninjas as they are Special Ops guys, running around in the sewers! Much cooler, and easier to make explosions with.
Speaking of updating stuff, teenagers today are too emo for me, and I don't think it's good to replicate that on-screen. So these turtles are probably going to act more like late 20s, early 30s, just for a better feel of the characters. Most teenagers are just complaining about their parents. We wanted characters that were edgier, and were ready to take down the man. That meant an older character.
Questions?"
Reporter - "Will Splinter still be in the movie?"
MB - "Yes, Splinter will be in the movie. He will be played by either Megan Fox or Shia Lebeouf. We are still in contract negotiations."
Reporter - "Do you have a main foe in mind?"
MB -"Well, I wanted to make them fight the Decepticons, because that would mean even more explosions, but the studio wouldn't allow that yet. They said we had to have at least one movie about just the turtles first. So, we've got John Tutorro to play Shredder, along with his two racist, comedy-inspiring henchmen. Are they evil? Yes. But they can still crack a joke and do nothing to advance the plot line."
Reporter - "So, they're not mutant, not teenagers, and not ninjas. Are they still turtles?"
MB - "We're still working with the writers on that." -
Quote:Eventually Lori needs to get over this, though. I mean, how long did she expect Carl to stay innocent in this? Was she going to keep him a kid forever? There are walking-freaking-undead!She started to pull away as Rick explained everything but then she lost it when Rick mentioned Carl playing his part in finishing off Shame.
Carl has been shot, seen his best friend turned into a zombie and then killed by his dad, seen one of his two dads get back up after being killed, and who knows what else before Rick linked up with the group. He's not a kid anymore, Lori! Stop pretending he is. -
Well, that was a pretty epic ending of the season.
By the way, if a zombie infestation ever breaks out, I want Herschel's gun. What was that, 50 shots from a shotgun? Yes, please. -
Quote:Wait wait wait wait wait. While I agree it's a bit silly to be nitpicking an archer's form in a movie that has a whole bunch of IMPOSSIBLE things in it it's also worthwhile to point out that at least we can compare Hawkeye's archery technique to real life because archery actually EXISTS in real life. Ultimately there really is no excuse for a supposed expert archer to 'arch' stupidly in any context comic-booky or not.
If there was someone out there who was nitpicking that the Hulk's skin color is not the right shade of green then I think you'd have cause to call that kind of criticism ridiculous.
Are you telling me that the Hulk ISN'T based on real-life?!?!?!!?!

Okay, related question to my search for parts/new comp: how do I tell how much power a system NEEDS? Basically, if a system has a power supply of X Watts, but the PSU is the only complaint about the system that I'm seeing, how do I tell what kind of PSU I'd need to replace it?
Basically, one of the rigs I'm looking at has a very cheap 700 W PSU, but 700 W good PSUs are a little expensive. How do I know if a 600 W PSU will be good enough to replace it? -
Quote:However, I think that letting the Devs know when we think they've crossed the line lets them know where we think the line is. I think that them selling enhancements that are the same effectiveness or more so than the ones you can earn in game is a big problem. It's becoming pay-to-win, and I don't think that that will help the game long-term. I think it will drive away existing players. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't, but I know that it's the first thing they've done that has really made me consider the direction they're taking the Hybrid-F2P model. The store-bought enhancements are already better than their in-game counterparts.
Being attuned, they keep their set bonuses when you exemp down to 3 levels below the minimum level. So if you bought a set of Thunderstrike you keep the set bonuses all the way down to level 27, while someone who slotted a set of level 50 Thunderstrikes loses the bonuses below 47.
I'm not a complete dev fanboy, despite my frequent defense of their decisions. There ARE things they've done that irritated me, I just don't generally spend time complaining about things that are already done and can't be undone.
The store-bought enhancements being better than the in-game versions is one of those things. Another is the fact that the vet rewards I waited 5+ years to acquire can now be gotten by a new player on their first day if they want to drop $400 on the game all at once.
Both of those things annoyed me, but other than mentioning them here I'm not going to sit around whining about it. It's already done, so there's no point. -
Quote:The book World War Z had a Chinese nuclear sub crew that survived after being out of touch with China for a while, and basically went rogue. They found an island where people with boats were gathering and trading supplies, and basically powered everyone else with their nuclear reactor in exchange for food and other goods. Was a pretty interesting take on who would survive some of these encounters.Vaguely reminds me of the novel On the Beach but that was about the fallout from a total nuclear war eventually wiping out all of humanity.
I would imagine that there have to be larger pockets of life surviving in the Walking Dead, but since they really haven't gone all that far from where they started, the characters just haven't encountered them yet. I am looking forward to next week's episode, though, since it seems like they're going to be facing off against a good number of the creatures.
I would love to figure out what exactly is the cause of the zombies, even if the characters don't, or at least figure out why some people come back as walkers and others just die. -
Basically, once you unlock the alpha slot, Shards can drop from mostly any content at all levels (you don't just need to farm at 50 or run the WTF).
Content that drops threads can drop shards (at least I feel like I've gotten Shards in some of the early iTrials). However, the new DA zone does not drop shards, and only drops threads. -
Hyper,
If I can find a deal at HH Gregg, I can pick one up in-store by Friday or Saturday morning, I hope. Never been there, but consider it a slightly cheaper Best Buy. If I'm ordering off of Newegg or Amazon, I think that this weekend may be a wash. But I'll live.
Would you guys mind if I showed you some potential options, in addition to the ones that you've posted already? Good, because I'm going to do it anyways! (thanks for all the help again, all).

Okay, so are there any computer companies that you guys recommend over others? Any to absolutely stay away from? What do you think about All-in-One computers? I'm very hesitant about those, but that could be just because I've never owned one before. but they seem like they'd lack the customization capabilities of a desktop.
But HH Gregg and Newegg look like they have some decent deals going on right now. I may need to replace the graphic card on some of them, but everything else looks good (and yes, I know that this would likely void the warranty and that I need to make sure the power supply is up to snuff).
Also, most of the computers I'm finding have the Radeon cards. How bad are those issues? -
I can spend up to a grand, most likely. I'd LIKE to spend a bit less than that, if at all possible. I think I'd be happier with spending about $750 if that can get me a decent system.

Wow, yeah...didn't see that this thread was a two-year necro. How was this thread even found? And for such a stupid reason, bumped?

I'm not completely against building my own comp, but I've done that before (with this comp), so I think this time around I'll just get one that's pre-made. Maybe I'll scavenge the video card from my current comp, since it's not that bad, until Christmas or something like that. Thanks for all the help, all, and the suggestions for a new computer. I'll look into them.
Edit -> I'm guessing that this mobo is too old, but it would be free from my brother-in-law. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems to only take up to 1 gig sticks of DDR RAM, which isn't too useful if I have two sticks of 2 GB DDR2 RAM.
http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/...ds/1188_1.html -
Had a single-core Intel processor, and most motherboards would be dual-core now, right? At least good ones?
-
Okay, so the USB ports are indeed dead.
Now the question becomes whether I buy a whole new computer, or just get a new motherboard. But if the board is that out of date, and I'm going to need other new components to go along with it, is it just time to bite the bullet and buy a new computer?
I might be able to wrangle up about a grand for it if I needed to, and I'd love an option that gets me up and running before this weekend, but I'll do what I need to do.
Edit-> On the bright side, I can now take a high-res picture of any component you want to see from my comp, since they're spread out on my kitchen table right now. -
Arch,
The keyboard actually has it's Num Lock/Caps Lock/Function Lock lights blink, but I can't get to the BIOS screen. The keyboard doesn't work outside of Windows, it just blinks at me, mockingly. -
Ummm...look at the brackets. Everything within the brackets happens before it is multiplied against accuracy. So, you have your accuracy value (including buffs and debuffs) multiplied by your ToHit (including ToHit buffs, ToHit debuffs, and opponents defense).

Quote:First off, thank you. That's awesome that you have a friend there to ask for this.Just spoke with a friend at Gigabyte. You can try reinstalling the drivers, but he's kinda sure the ports are fried or on their way to it.
Secondly, if that is the case, what kind of motherboard would you recommend I get to replace it? -
Quote:I think that this would be okay. Three total extra slots, at 50. Would prevent it from being too bad, but could still mean that people who have paid for the slots can be more powerful than those who haven't.I am for a few extra slots! Not for min/max purposes really (though I admit in some builds this would happen), but because there's some powers that while one may min/max the set bonuses/enhancement values, that even underslotting some powers leaves a few powers you'd like to use, unuseable due to a lack of slots.
Now if they made them purchasable in the market, I think Id leave it 3 slots per character, bought per character, and possibly not useable untill they're level 50), so it's more to enhance a character you plan on playing regularly (for most people) and not "Okay this will help my leveling up" -
Thanks for all the help, all. Will try some of these solutions tonight, and see how they go. If it is a sign that the motherboard is dying...at least my birthday is coming up. Still, I'd love to get this fixed BEFORE double XP weekend.

Would a:
Gigabyte GA-EG31M-52 be a model number for a motherboard? -
Hey everyone,
So, on my main computer, I've run into a problem. The computer seems to have stopped liking the USB host controllers or the jacks. Which is absolutely fantastic, since my mouse and keyboard are usb-dependent. I was able to find a usb -> ps2 port converter for my mouse, but I can't really google or type anything, which makes it tough to search for help on that computer. So, I highjacked my fiance's compt to ask for help. I say this because I can't give you many details on the other computer or post the typical reports that might help you to help me diagnose the problem.
System:
Self-built, running Windows XP SP3. Can't remember the motherboard type or processors.
Now, what the problem is:
The USB ports aren't recognized
The computer says there was a malfunction, and that the drives aren't recognized
It gives me a little pop-up to click to fix it, but it's the window's troubleshooter, and therefore fairly useless.
Nothing plugged into the drives work, or even shows that it's getting power.
What I've done to try to fix it:
1) Run the Windows troubleshooter, and perform all the fixes it suggests
2) Uninstall the USB Host Controllers, reboot the computer a few times to have the re-install
3) Run Windows Updater
4) Download new drivers, but tough to do, since I can't type in the model numbers, and I don't want to pay for a driver finder (not like I could put in any info anyways)
So what's next? Are they just dead, and I need to get new parts? Is there something I can do while only having a mouse to do it?
Thanks. I'll try to get anyone more info if I can, but I can't post from that computer.
