  1. Going to start a pair of Defenders with the g/f. She will be running Kin/Ice and I will be running a Traps/Dark.

From skimming over Mids, I have noticed that this combination offers a great number of variable slotting choices. What I am asking you for is potential leveling advice and/or a target build to shoot for once we get up to Trial levels.

The build that I have currently is...

    http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...38700411FBFE38

Please keep in mind that this is a non-complete build with many blank powers and slots. What I have done is went ahead and created a leveling build based on the powers available and then added in some random IO sets that looked good to me for my finished product. Any assistance/critiques are welcome and appreciated.
  2. Thank you, Infini, as this build looks to fit perfectly in my budget range. I do have access to GR and had been looking at Ghost Widow's set to fit the -ToHit with all of the +Def that Ice/* gives. Thank you much for your time with this build, no matter how quickly you put it together.

*edit* After trying this build, I realized that I am 4 days away from being able to use the full proper build. Having never done any Tip/Morality missions on this toon, it will take me ~4 days to get her swapped from Hero to Villain. Is there an interim build that I could use to similar effect using the Hero APPs? The 4 APPs have single target blasts and a targeted AOE-type, but none of them have -ToHit/Acc abilities to slot the Dark Watcher set into. Is there a similar set that I could use (such as Earth's Quicksand) to get on par bonuses?
  3. SO I recently returned to Cities after a couple year hiatus. Many of my 50s I was able to jump in and fix to be very iTrial compliant. I am having trouble getting a decent build for my Ice/SS. Please note that her build is still with the old Fitness pool and is in no way optimal (though I was able to run her in Mender Ramiel's arc for unlocking the Alpha slot). Please help to get her back to current content with a mid-level build.

    Her current build is...

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. One goal is to get a build that I can afford, hopefully without Purples and without the PVP sets. Another goal is to be able to run non-AE content and to be survivable when doing the iTrials. Thank you for all input.

As you say, it is a situational power - I just didn't want him treating it like Fireball.
As someone that has played a Kinfender on teams with Energy Blasters/Corrs messing me up, I do understand the usage of situational KB powers (that, and I've never been able to keep a Fire Blast character past L6 or so...).
  5. I still have a ways to go before Tornado, but you give damn good advice. Not having a reliable -KB power hurts, but everything that Ill/Storm brings to the table is heavy with the KB flavor. I was (mostly) looking at Tornado and Lightning Storm as being part of my attacks when solo as I know how they do not like to do as predicted with teams.
  6. My first 50 was my FF/Rad. I still use her as my "go to" character for all TFs and events in game. She's one that will always hold a special place in my heart, even though she's not the "best" character on my roster. Loved FF so much that, when CoV had it's pre-launch weekend, leveled up my Bot/FF in those two days.

My other L50 Defender is my Kin/Sonic. This one was duo'd with a Kin/Rad, so, again, another special place in my heart. Teams would wet themselves when they saw not 1, but 2 Kins when on TFs. There was nothing that could stand before us; it was awesome.
  7. Took me a couple days, but I finally got this one to 22 and SOs. Ended up going to Paragon over the Isles because, as people have stated, Superspeed is a lot more friendly here than there. Slowly leveling, but with all the help given, it has been a safe road so far. Finished up the Wheel of Destruction arc and had zero problems.

So in battle, Steamy provides more Defense.
I was not aware of the suppressed Defense, though I knew that the Stealth portion did get suppressed. This is why the Devs allowed us respecs, thank you.
  9. @Local_Man, how do you slot Steamy Mist? This is one of the reasons that I have been putting it off. The default EndRedux, or Frankenslot some Def/End and Res/End IOs? I do have access to Ninja Run and the City Traveler veteran reward, so Travel Powers are not hard to fit in.

@Crystal_Smoke, I was not discrediting your advice on Super Speed and Steamy Mist, I was just looking at a mostly solo, sometime Teaming, build. I am aware of SI's heavy End cost, but I also know that Ninja Run and SI make for simple "stealthing" of missions.

I do hope that I am not sounding ungrateful, quite the opposite. All of this input is quite welcome. I am just now starting to fight Destroyers in Praetoria, so now's a good time to get a solid, level-able build set. Thank you all for your inputs.

I have considered that set-up, however I plan to take this character through Praetoria to the Rogue Isles. That, and Super Speed and I do not see eye-to-eye.

Here's an updated one based on the comments. I do appreciate all of your work/interest in picking this apart.

The reason for O2 boost is just to be able to heal the Phantasm if needed. The Damages in Blind will be, as was stated, mostly for leveling. I do understand that it is not a pure attack in the truest sense, so I have no problem slotting for more Damage or Hold as the need arises (solo vs team play). To both Carnifax and Local_Man, thank you both for your time regarding this.
  12. How does this look? Figure I can Frankenslot Tornado and Lightning Storm with the Rech/Dam IOs and Spectral Terror with Fear/Rech. While solo, Steamy Mist will do me no good, but will I want some slots into it while teamed aside from the End Redux?

  14. After finally getting the Incarnate options unlocked on my Earth/TA, I have decided to roll another Controller. The problem that I am having is that I would like to try out Illusion/Storm, but my Mids-fu is quite weak. I am looking at a (mostly) solo leveling build and the slotting seems to be extremely tight and un-flexible.

I have read over @Local_Man's Illusion/Rad guide to learn how to use the primary, but I haven't found any decent, up to date */Storm guides.

The build I am looking at is below. Please keep in mind that all slots are empty, but this was intended to be a leveling build, so they are all open to suggestion. All help is welcome and very much appreciated.

    Budget Build(s)

    Thank you, Rylas.

I do have Mids and have built a couple builds ("losing hours" as you put it has been dedicated to building decent Fortunata builds currently), but they are mostly pure SO builds. My budget can fluctuate and, yes, I do know of the new Merit/Alignment system and have been making strides towards the Hero/Villain merits.

My Ice/SS used to be teamed with a Kin-fender, so I never needed lots of +Recharge SOs/IOs. Had perma-Rage, no Hurl/Handclap or Taunt (never needed it with Chilling Embrace, Icicles, and Foot Stomp), and had every other SS power and all of the Ice Armor powers. Mostly used her for TFs and AVs. Looking to keep her more AOE minded with the boosted difficulty sliders with an eye on these Incarnate trials (her Alpha is unlocked thanks to the new Account Merits).

The Stone/Ice was just a side-project and theme character, but was always another fun one to play. She just had a straight leveling build and I was never interested in taking her on Raids much.

    Returning player.

Have a pair of tanks that I would like to upgrade to the inherent Fitness pools and other i20 goodies. One is an Ice/SS and the other is a Stone/Ice. Are there any builders free that can help an old player out that has a limited Inf budget? Thank you in advance.
  17. remove all Player Names when in Zone PVP.

not all AT combinations are viable for Solo-PVP. this is where Walkraft kicks the snot out of Cities. sorry, but it's true.

  23. hrmm, funny thing I found when traversing your myspace.com page. one of your pictures is a DIRECT copy of a piece done by Christopher Hart. it's this one Club Fluff. the g/f and I noticed it before on Rowr's old page and LOL'd lots.
