Traps/Dark Leveling Advice

Going to start a pair of Defenders with the g/f. She will be running Kin/Ice and I will be running a Traps/Dark.

From skimming over Mids, I have noticed that this combination offers a great number of variable slotting choices. What I am asking you for is potential leveling advice and/or a target build to shoot for once we get up to Trial levels.

The build that I have currently is...

Please keep in mind that this is a non-complete build with many blank powers and slots. What I have done is went ahead and created a leveling build based on the powers available and then added in some random IO sets that looked good to me for my finished product. Any assistance/critiques are welcome and appreciated.

I use a build similar to whats in my signature. It can be endurance heavy, but with a kin that won't be a problem.Without the Kin, you may prefer cardiac. Actually running all the toggles is optional. With nerve and weave, and little endurance boost it's incarnate soft-capped. Total Overkill.

I'd probably tell you to back off the defense numbers and increase the offensive side. However, I don't play her a great deal and I love her tank-ness, so I don't mind the lesser offense. It's always fun to be the last one standing with 7 dead tanks at your feet. With i21, I'll almost certainly remake her as a Traps/Fire Defender with a bit less defense and a good deal more offense.

Thank you, Linea.

The build I was going for, well, I was kind of building it with Recharge as it's first priority. I do know that this is not always optimal, especially with regards to iTrials and the Defense numbers needed to stay not dead.

This will be a fun trip as I have never played Traps or Dark Blast before. Planning on trying to make her equal parts team player when those situations arise and Offender when she is just running solo/duo.

I soloed my way through all the Praetorian AVs, no issues, and can drop 2 Rikti pylons in under 5 minutes.

FWIW, I think the build could be tightened up but ... I hate respeccing.

Just remember to lead with Seeker Drones (if they're slotted with -ToHit, nothing much will hit you, no need to go nuts to be soft capped with traps / dark) to soak up the alpha, than start unloading. Depending on what's charged, I'll throw down Acid Mortar > Tentacles > Caltrops > Nightfall. I LOVE the combination of Tentacles and Caltrops -- the DoT combined with procs is lovely to watch.

Edit: I should also add that, while Traps does have a lot of powers with long(ish) animations and long(ish) recharge times, the ability to slot a surprising number of procs into your key debuffs means a couple things: your DPS won't by hurt all that much if you focus on using your primary (loaded with damage procs); you can layer on complementary effects from different powers (i.e., stacked holds + stacked disorients + the immob from Tents mean you can keep mobs within range of all your traps).

One last thought -- don't be afraid to pull additional spawns into your traps.
