Quote:Hey Lyger! Thanks for responding, and Merry Christmas!btw - I left all your power selections alone, EXCEPT for manuvers. Sorry. Didnt see the "Thematic" part, but obviously you can change it back and the sets still work (changed it for stealth for stealthing tip missions and what not)
As for Maneuvers being thematic for Adamant... he's a leader and does his best to protect his team, simple as that. I wanted to fit it in before, but couldn't spare a free Power Pool and power pick. With inherent fitness, now he can! And anyway, Adamant smashes obstacles in his path... not sneak by them! He's definitely not the subtle sort, lol.
I not only prefer Maneuvers over Stealth for concept reasons, but also from a numbers stand point. It gives about 0.5 more base defense; not much but can be enhanced and also shared with the entire team (every little bit helps). As far as End-cost, it's not that much more than Stealth either. Maybe 0.05 more, and the gap lessons with a little end redux. Stealth also slows me down, which I hate.
So Stealth isn't my cup of tea, but I get why you might like it.
As for your build.... It's interesting. I've seen a few of yours on the boards already and got some good tips from them. However, I'd love to hear your reasoning for the choices you made. At the moment it doesn't look like it's the direction I want to go, but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise!
But when I compare them side-by-side, I'm seeing:
-Less defense across the board, ESPECIALLY with F/C/E/N. In some cases, more than 10% less. The Ranged, AoE, and Psionic are quite a bit lower as well. These I found handy for attacks that bypass the usual typed defenses. Either way, with my build I am soft-capped to S/L with only 1 enemy in melee range, capped to F/C at 5, and E/N at 9. Your build is softcapped to S/L with 1 enemy in melee when you have Stealth running, but even with the max 10 saturating Invincibility you are still not softcapped to F/C/E/N.
-My +dmg bonus is higher
-Lower mobility. Stealth will be debuffing your speed by -35%, and you only have +15% from set bonuses. Meanwhile I have +34% and no debuff to worry about. Good combat mobility means a lot to me.
-I have 25% more regen than you
-KO Blow is slotted with Kinetic Combats... just makes me cry a little inside, lol
-You slotted the Steadfast Protection KB protection IO, which I find odd. It makes no difference since (unless something changed since I was gone) Unyielding gives the best KB protection in the game. Meanwhile, you didn't bother slotting the Regenerative Tissue +Regen IO.
-The slot economy just seems really off on yours, no offense. For what you are getting, you seem to be sacrificing a lot of slots for minimal gain. 3 slotting Resist Physical Damage is one example, same with 4 slotting Superior Conditioning. 4 slotting Reactive Armor in both Temp Invuln and Unyielding when you can get better benefits from 3 slotting Aegis and save 2 slots. Stuff like that.
However, I don't want to sound like I'm totally bashing your build. Here are the benefits over mine, or at least what I could see:
-Better recharge. +11% over mine, to be exact.
-Better HP, but only by about 16.
-Better resistances, but only by about 2 or 3%
-Better recovery and Max End. About +5 Max End over mine, but with the recovery bonuses... you only recover 0.05 end/sec faster than me.
-Less end cost for toggles... about 0.04 less.
-Punch and Haymaker are better slotted. That extra Hami-O Nucleolus in both can grant much needed accuracy, though the dmg bonus is negligible after ED. I'm definitely considering finding 2 slots somewhere to do this, as Punch and Haymaker are used pretty often in my attack chains and I want them hitting all the time, especially against +4s. Though I'd probably just slot generic lvl 50 Acc IO's and only bother with the Hami-O's if I got them the normal ways (read: not buying them off the auction house).
LygerZero, thanks again for responding, especially during these busy holiday times!
I'm definitely interested to hear back from you and see where you are going with your build. Right now, however, it doesn't look like it would fit my playstyle. You just seem to sacrifice way too much to get a bit extra recharge. I also don't think the little extra recovery is worth it, as even my current build (no physical perfection slotting and no +end procs) hasn't run out of endurance since I got the Cardiac Alpha Slot.
If anyone else has any feedback as well, it would be greatly appreciated!
And again, Happy Holidays! -
Wow...80+ views and no replies? Meanwhile 3 or 4 other builds get posted after mine and get responses?
Either I'm doing something right, or did something really really wrong, lol. -
First off, apologies if I blathered on too much in the intro to my post. :P
Second, for those that have looked at my build... I know my Accuracy in Boxing, Punch, and Haymaker is only about +22% with 4 Kinetic Combats and nothing else, however I also have substantial To-Hit bonuses from Rage and Invincibility. Should this still be enough to allow me 95% chance to hit +4 foes?
What are people's experiences?
Initially I put a Nucleus Hami-O in Haymaker, but it was already close to the ED limit so it only gave me about 8 extra points of damage.... pointless for the slot... though it's the accuracy I'm most concerned for.
Thanks! -
UPDATE:
I moved 2 slots from Superior Conditioning and added them to Physical Perfection and Stamina.
I lost 28 HP, 5% Movement Speed, and just over 3% max endurance.
However, I gained about 14% extra Recovery and now sit at 209% (4.08 End/Sec). -
Hey Everyone,
Just got back from a long absence... and so glad to be here! The game has definitely gone through a lot of improvements and I loved the latest few issues. Adamant here has been my main and my Brute SMASH companion since CoV came out, and he was the character I always wanted to make since playing the original CoH in beta and release.
We had a lot of good times, him and I, but eventually I wasn't happy with a build that was both effective and fit my RP vision of him.... until now!
Inherent fitness, access to hero APPs, and the Incarnate Alpha slot have made it possible to mold Adamant into his ideal incarnation!
However, I have a lot of work to do in order to get him to the point I want him. I've already spent a number of hours in the latest version of MIDS and I have two builds.... one that's reasonable and the other super expensive.
For now, I'd just love some extra eyes and advice on his affordable yet still effective build.
As you'll see, I focused on his defensive capabilities first... so currently he is soft-capped to S/L with 1 enemy in range of Invinc, and capped to F/C/E/NE when he gets a lot more around him. His HP and Regen should be pretty good, and I got some good recharge in there. Oh, and recovery was also a huge concern. Not sure if 195% seems a little low, but with 3 +end procs, higher max end pool, and Cardiac Alpha Slot I'm hoping it should be more than enough to sustain a long fight (even with constant Rage/Hasten crashes). The +dmg set bonuses are on the low side, but I had to make sacrifices somewhere.
I know you all see a lot of these SS/INV builds... I've looked at more than a few myself, but a lot of them didn't really match up to what I personally wanted. So I took a crack at it myself, and would really appreciate some feedback. Let me know if anything can be made more efficient or steamlined (or just plain tell me if I totally fugged up, lol).
Oh, and to specify... for this build the powers picked are pretty much set in stone. They fit Adamant thematically, even if other choices might allow me to min/max more. I had a build like that already with Dark Mastery and ended up hating it. Loved the damage of Gloom but it didn't fit Adamant at all. Hurl is much more fun! And Energy Mastery is suited perfectly to him.
Also, no purples or PvP IOs in this build. I actually already have the Hecatomb set, and working on some others... but for now I just want to focus on the basics.
Thanks in advance, oh mighty Brute lovers!

Hmmm, ok. Thanks for the tips!
Now my question is... which is more valuable when dealing with AV's?
The massive -regen and -recovery debuff from Drain Psyche...?
Or the control buff from Power Boost? -
Thanks for all the responses everyone! I learned a lot more than I thought I would.
Still haven't decided on an AT, as I'm currently busy respeccing and outfitting my main (SS/INV Brute) for i19, but it has certainly given me something to think about.
I'm curious though, which Ice builds would work the best in the end game? In large teams on the hardest TFs, which would bring more value to the group? -
Quote:Thanks Silas!Scorpion Shield looks like this, PFF looks like the normal untinted PFF.
-
I'm curious what the color for these are, and what they look like. I heard that Scorpion Shield is somewhat purple with a subtle effect, but I'd love to see exactly what it will look like. As well, I know what the usual PFF looks like but I'm curious as to whether it's the usual blue-ish color or something else.
Any pics and/or vids would be greatly appreciated. I tried searching but came up empty.
Thanks! -
Quote:Soul Mastery can hold Hamis? That's interesting.... what makes that hold so special? Couldn't a Dominator do the same with any kind of hold?I second this. If you're not into sharks, I recommend Soul Mastery. Properly slotted, SM's Soul storm can hold the green Hamis in LGTF.
Corrs are usually very useful in high level SFs. SF Leaders tend to specifically look for corrs (and sometimes blasters) more than they look for doms with the exception of a perma mind dom.
Ice buffs for teammates are great for ITF/RSF and Ice powers debuff/slow Rom's regen.
Now an Ice/Ice/Ice Controller I never thought of... shows how long I've been gone, lol. Still, I think it would be too busy and I also like doing direct damage. I played a FF Defender and MM before and I found the constant re-applying of team buffs to be way too annoying....
...which would likely count for a corrupter as well. I know the def buffs are nice, but it's useless solo and annoying to constantly monitor and re-cast in big teams.
Thank you everyone for your opinions.... keep 'em coming!
Still leaning towards a Dominator... seems that especially with the Ice APP available now, I would be able to do as much debuffing as a corrupter as well as have all the amazing controls and great damage. Plus, being able to completely lockdown an AV (eventually) just seems too good to pass up.
GavinRuneBlade mentioned Ice Control not having good Alpha mitigation though.... does Flash Freeze not do that? It's a sleep, isn't it? -
So I'm back after a long hiatus, and glad to see Dominators finally got some much needed love!
I'm new to them, but I'm looking at Mind Control. Originally I thought of going with Psi Assault to stick with the theme, but after looking at the goodies in Energy Assault (Power Boost) I'm torn.
What kind of experiences have people had? Is Power Boost necessary for an optimized Mind Control Dom? Will I miss having any good AOE's, even if my ST damage is great? (Whirling Hands doesn't count whatsoever, sorry)
Is the added AoE of Psi Assault worth it? How is the ST damage? Will Psi resist enemies be the bane of my existence? I have no experience with Drain Psyche... is it all that AND a bag of chips? Does it make up for not having Power Boost?
Finally, I'm not looking at investing a crapload of INF into the character at the moment. Maybe later, but right now my monies are being showered on my main. However, if I enjoy the character enough it's certainly something to think about in the future.
Opinions welcome! Thanks in advance for the help. -
Hey All,
Been gone a while and just recently returned. I have a great concept and name for an ice character, but I'm stuck on which AT to try it out on. I'm used to Scrappers and Brutes, so I wanted to try something more ranged with a different kind of play style. Therefore I've narrowed it down to the following...
Blaster
Corrupter
Dominator
Now I'm planning on taking Ice for primary, secondary and APP if possible.
I'm also leaning towards Dominator, because it's the one AT I never really got into at all before and I heard they are actually quite good now with the recent changes.
Oh, and I should mention that this will be more of a fun occasional alt character, so it's out of the running if it takes huge investment to really pay off.
Opinions? -
I'm having a similar issue.
I've been gone about a year and a half, and would definitely like to try claws.
WP is fun... but I already rode that train with a SS/WP, and want to try something different.
I've always wanted to try Electric Armor, but it had some issues in the past.... now with the heal in Energize, it looks like it might be worth leveling.
I looked for some guides, but didn't find any posted. What are some good builds?
Almost everything in either Claws and Electric look good. Any powers we should avoid? -
Ok, so I kind of figured out the problem.
It wasn't the drivers... downloaded and installed the latest version, with no change.
But I tried going into the 'Personalize' Win7 settings... and changed my display size from 150% to 125%..... this seemed to fix it.
Now CoH works in fullscreen... but my desktop icons, etc, are much smaller..... argh -
Hey Everyone,
I've just resubbed to COH after a long absence. In the meantime, I bought a brand new laptop that should have no problem running the game whatsoever (even with the upcoming Ultra Mode updates).
That said, I'm having a weird fullscreen resolution glitch I can't seem to fix.
When the client loads in fullscreen mode, I can only seem to see a portion of the screen. It's very off-centre. Even when I used Regedit to force the client resolution to my native desktop res (1920x1200) I can still only see and click on a portion of the screen.
I have been able to log into the game fine by forcing windowed mode, but I'd very much prefer to play in fullscreen.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm just frustrated and want punishments doled out for the griefers.
Those type of players, however it can be determined, should be punished. It is harassment and in violation of the terms of agreement they agreed to upon purchasing this game.

I couldn't agree more, and that very issue is the thing that has made me consider quiting this game.
There is no accountability, no punishment.
They are BREAKING THE RULES that they agree to, everytime they enter the game. You can't twist that, especially when the exploiting and griefing in combined with wantan and flagrant verbal and graphic harrasement.
I have written down the name of every player I have seen do this, and if they are not dealt with... then this is not the kind of game I want to support.
I'm not calling on every account to be banned... but I at least want to know that they have been talked to directly by a GM and warned that further abuse will cause them to lose their account.
It's not like it's hard for them to know if this is going on... there are only as many, say, Siren's Calls as there are servers. As well, I'm sure each server keeps a log of whats going on in these zones.
Hell, if not, then I'm going to start taking pictures and video of this happening, and make sure that the devs get this if it will help at all.
In real life this kind of behavior would NOT be tolerated (at least in most civilized and governed countries).
We are just too used to this, yes, criminal behavior in these games. Well, we SHOULDN'T be used to it.
Honestly, it makes me sick.
I just hope that NCsoft Cryptic will stand by their User Agreement policy and deal with these people appropriately.
Yes, fix the game so this kind of thing can't happen (or happen as often). But you need to lay down the law so that people won't WANT to do this sort of thing, or feel that they can do it with impunity.
