See, the problem here is that you are letting your personal prejudices influence your suggestion. Everyone has aspects of the game that they like and some they don't like. Suggestions to enhance the bits you like are always welcome. Suggestions to tweak areas you don't like to make them more appealing tend to get a poor reception but can be well received if they are well thought out. Suggestions that basically amount to trying to force people to play the way you want them to are almost always a bad idea.

Consider what you would think if someone came in and posted the opposite suggestion. "My arc uses the Freedom Phalanx as allies so whenever anyone plays it the Freedom Phalanx TF contacts should all be removed from the zones since they are taking part on my arc." "I think there should be a TF about nuking Recluse's Victory, when it completes all characters should get kicked out of the zone and it should be locked down for 2 hours."

You had a potentially decent idea but the examples you used were both thinly veiled attempts to force people into playing in a way you want them to. The last line of your original post makes me think that you knew this and decided to post anyway.

Also I'll note if you dislike the AE then the best action is to post suggestions for improving it. Like it or not it's here to stay and posting threads advocating it's removal (which this thread essentially does in a roundabout way) are counterproductive.

Well, I'd look at it this way, if you slot them both in the same power you'll get a slightly higher Defense bonus and you can shift some slots to other powers. The same goes for Brawl. Sure it's a nice defense bonus but you can get the same bonus sticking a Thunderstrike in one of your other powers and you then get 5-slots to redistribute. You've got a playable build but personally I'd shift the slotting priorities slightly.

At the moment you're basically going:
    1. Ranged Defense
    2. Procs

I would say that after Ranged Defense you're much better off build for either AoE Defense or Recharge. Psi Blast has pretty solid single target damage right out of the gate but it's really lacking in AoE damage (especially Psi/EM). The Procs help you with single target damage but you really want to build more for Recharge and get Psionic Tornado up as much as possible. Personally I consider procs as something that's nice to have. I stick them in where I can (especially in AoEs) but if it comes to a proc or a useful set bonus the proc is gone.

I would say you've probably got a decent build if you want to try and solo AVs and such but for a general purpose PvE build it's not that great.

You mention going with Electrical Mastery instead of Fire and I think that is a good idea, but not for the reason you gave. I like it because it means you can pick up Static Discharge which gives you another reasonably decent AoE to help make up for your lack there. Fire does have Bonfire but it's on a two minute recharge so you'll only get it up every two or three spawns.

EDIT: For Example, you could take the slots in Brawl and add one each to Mental Blast, Hover, Fly, Combat Jumping and Group Fly. Put a Thunderstike in Mental Blast and complete the BotZ sets in the other powers. The costs you a very small amount of damage (the proc and the 3% damage bonuses from Devastation and Mako's Bite) but in exchange you get about 12.5% AoE defense.

No, read the link I posted. What I said is that the difference to hit between +0 and +5 NPCs is purely a change in Accuracy so the percentage Defense decreases it will be the same regardless of how much defense you have.

Assume you have 20% defense. A +0 will hit you 30% of the time while a +5 will hit you 45% of the time. A 50% difference.

For a soft capped character will be hit by a +0 5% of the time and a +5 7.5% of the time so still a 50% difference.

NPCs that are -1 or lower or +6 or greater do get a to hit penalty/bonus so your defense matters less/more.

    Quote:
One other thing - doesn't six-slotting Thunderstrike into your attacks cripple your DPS since you then can't proc them out at all?
Not really, it's lower but not a huge amount. Everything is a sacrifice. If you want to build up defense you're going to lose damage mostly in the form of recharge bonuses and procs.

Actually you can slot both the Steadfast +3% and the Glad Armor +3% into the same power if you want to. However that's a 2 billion inf IO and personally I would say the performance gains are not worth it on a Blaster.

This is probably one of the oldest arguments on forums. Yes, perfect English is not required and in general people will overlook occasional mistakes. However writing in bad English is the equivalent of talking with a rustic accent in real life; people give your words less weight than they should because the presentation is poor. If people have to spend a lot of time interpreting your words then that is time they aren't spending considering them. It also makes them more likely to decide that your words are not worth considering.

The "wall of text" phenomenon is a similar issue. In general it is harder to read words on a computer screen than it is on a printed page (I'm not entirely sure why but it is). When attempting to read a large block of text (such as your original post) it is very easy for the eye to jump from one place to another making it harder to read. However the opposite is also bad. I've seen people who write putting each sentence on it's own line and I find those almost as hard to read as the wall of text. My experience is that there is a balance required in how frequently you put paragraph breaks in your most for maximum readability.

Actually NPCs only get an accuracy bonus based on relative level unless they are +6 or above. So the percentage of damage reduction provided by defense remains the same.
    http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Attack_Mechanics

So a +5 with hit 50% more often than a +0 regardless of your defense (the exception is things like Overseers who have such a high to hit bonus that they hit at 95% irregardless of defense).

Nope. Good marketeers already know roughly what people are asking/offering items for and price their good accordingly. You already see a situation where a niche is to small for the number of marketeers working it and the buy/sell prices start to converge. If the niche is large enough to support the people trying to work it then prices don't really change a lot. Marketeers leave their bids/sales up when they aren't playing and they clear out.

While there are alot of players who are just impatient, the market lag is another driving force to make player impatient. It take anywhere from few seconds to more than 1 minute for system to process your bid. Have you try to creep bid lets say for "magical conspiracy" from 500K to 1.5M in 50K increments? How often will you do it? Isn't it more likely that you will try it in 250K increment or will say "eff it" and bid 1.5M right away? After that you might see post in "Market and Inventions" forum where "Ebil" marketeer expresses joy and calls buyer lazy and stupid because his "Magical Conspiracy" listed for 1,251,234 inf was sold for 1.5M insted of 1.3M. If system displayed BBO and it happened to be best offer, I'd simply bid 1.26-1.3M and take it out instead trying to bidcreep and end up paing 1.5M
You're missing the point, I'm talkign about patience in waiting for your items, not patience in bid creeping. Last night I wanted some rare salvage (Mu Vestaments and Deific Weapons) for some crafting. Based on the last 5 bids I would have probably needed to pay over 2 million each for them if I wanted them immediately. I placed some reasonable bids (about 1.2 million) and went off to do some missions (on another character) and when I was finished a few hours later all of my bids had filled. I probably could have gotten them for even less (maybe as low as 900K) if I'd been willing to wait overnight but I wanted to put my goods up for sale so it was worth the extra cost to me.

Having a visible BBO encourages players to pay the current asking price and accept the current offering price but those are not the market prices of the items. You can always get a better price if you're willing to wait. So a visible BBO helps impatient buyers (since they can pay the exact amount instead of a round number) and hurts patient sellers (who will get less for their goods from marketeers and impatient players). Now marketeers make most of our profits from impatient players but I'd much rather the market be set to aid patient players since patience is a virtue.

  8. No but depending on the difficulty of switching it could be a valid business strategy. That being said considering that the devs still refuse to merge the makrets I'm not to surprised about stopping you from taking your inf with you. After all if merging the market would hurt villain imagine what having heros with a few billion inf transfer over would do [/sarcasm].

I didn't say it requires you to spend more time following the market. It gives you a better snapshot of the market at the current time but unless you follow it a lot you don't necessarily know how to interpret that data. Conversely the increased transparency benefits marketeers a lot, we can more easily get good deals on items that we otherwise might miss out on. Sure we'll get a bit less on our sales but we'll more than make up for it with our purchases.

    Quote:
That system benefits the seller and "shafts" the buyer.
Nope, it benefits the patient and shafts the impatient. Buyers benefit a lot by being able to place buy orders and purchase things while they aren't physically standing in the market. Additionally most people are both buyers and sellers (they sell their drops and buy what they want) so the pricing tends to balance out. The only people who get the shaft are the ones who insist on buying shinys immediately no matter the cost, and to be honest they are going to get the shaft no matter what system is used. The double blind system means that people who are patient can get good deals without needing to spend time camping the AH leaving more time available to play the game.

I disagree that system based on hiding information is fairer than system providing information.
I would actually like the market to display more information. But the information I'd like to see is more historical data, at least the last 24 hours although an option to see the last week would be nice. This would be a much better way of closing the knowledge gap between marketeers and non-marketeers than increasing the knowledge of the market at the present time. Increasing present time knowledge encourages BUY IT NAO and SELL IT NAO mentalities which generally result in you getting the worst prices. Increasing historical knowledge makes it easier to see what the true market value is.

Another solution can be folding listing fees into transaction fees.
This is another change that only really benefits marketeers. Currently we're forced to list items at a price where we know they will sell in our desired time frame since pulling them and relisting at a lower price is expensive and really cuts into our bottom line. Allowing us to relist items for free means we can do more expensive pricing to try and maximize our profits without worrying about the cost if they don't sell/

Blaster should do damage but I don't think a Secondary power that combines hefty debuffing with damage is balanced.

It's Ice Slick on steroids. Ice Slick only gets the knockdown. This does knockdown, damage and defense debuffs. As for the damage mods, don't be so sure about that. The reason pets don't always get the damage scale is that the devs don't bother to change them when they port the set but in this case if they did give Blasters OSA they would almost certainly decrease the radius which would necessitate a new pseudo pet so it probably would get the damage boost. In the end it's the devs decision and us arguing about it here is irrelevant but I'm strongly of the opinion that OSA is to good for Blasters.
  15. There are two general defense slotting styles. Ranged and Smashing/Lethal. In general Ranged is easier and more useful for a Blaster (especially if you take hover) but for an Energy Manipulation Blapper Smashing/Lethal is a viable option.

My main advice is to go to this page and search for "Ranged Def":
    http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/IO_Sets

However, here are a few ranged defense sets that are very Blaster friendly:

    1. Thunderstike. 6-slot this in as many of your single target attacks as possible. 3.75% defense and recovery and accuracy to boot

    2. Steadfast Protection. You don't need the entire set but most Blasters have a resistance toggle in their epic that can take this set and one of the IOs gives a global +3% Defense bonus

    3. Mako's Bite. This can be 6-slotted in your melee attacks for another 3.75% ranged defense. The nice thing about this is that the Thunderstrike bonus is split accross two bonuses (the 3 and the 6) while this is all in one so you can theoretically have 5 Thunderstrieks and 5 Mako's without running afoul of the Rule of Fives.

    4. Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control. 6-slotting this gives 2.5% to all positional defense. Personally I think it's overrated but it's a popular set for Blasters so I'm including it.

    5. Numina's Convalescence. Another 6-slot for 3.75% defense. This is one that you may or may not want depending on the rest of your powers. If you like to take Aid Self then it's a decent choice but if the only power that can take it is Health then you're giving up access to the Miracle and Regenerative Tissue Procs.

If you go for S/L Defense you'll want to take Cold Mastery for the shield there and four slot kinetic combats in your melee attacks. I'm mnot really sure where to go after that.

PS, since you're a PvPer I assume you know about Mids'?

Borrowing part of a line from your post: The upside of a market that displays more bid information is that you will almost always get the fair market price when buying or selling.
How about providing some supporting arguments for why you think that and why it would be a good thing for the economy?

Making the market more like a store would not be a good thing. A double blind auction system is actually one of the best methods for allowing people to purchase things at stable prices. In a store style market (like say the one in WoW) you have one option: purchase whatever is available when you check the market. The advantage of a double blind is it allows you to set buy orders and purchase things for your desired price when you aren't at the market.

It's also worth considering the fact that when there is a difference between the buyer's price and the seller's price it is the buyer's price that is used rather than the seller's. The purpose of this is that it forces marketeers to play fair. If bids were executed at the seller's price then the profit margin of marketeers would increase since we could place our buy orders at a higher price than we currently do but would actually get the goods for less.

Displaying the available purchase prices essentially means that bids are enacted at the seller's price it just requires a bit more effort on the part of the marketeer to do so (and yes, people will do so).

One ATs secondary is another AT's primary. The trend of late seems to be that new powersets are released for every possible AT at once rather than only a few. The obvious exceptions are Manipulation and Assault Sets but since those are for the most part mashups of other sets the trend has been to release them as part of powerset proliferation rather than ont heir own.

Oil Slick Arrow is an extremely powerful power. It debuffs defense, slows enemies down, causes knockdown and deals a LOT of damage (as in the Defender version will pretty much kill even con minions by itself). It also does all of this in a 25foot radius meaning that you have to deliberately try to not hit all of the spawn. Consider what this means for a Blaster. It will not only keep enemies out of melee range, it will stop them from attacking a reasonable amount of the time, make them easier to hit and just about kill them by itself for good measure. Even if the devs nerfed the radius to 10 feet (which I think would pretty much be a given) I just don't see it balanced as a Blaster power, it is just to good.
  19. I'm going to say no, I think the current system works fine. The actual cost to build a fully functional base is pretty low, a handful of people running in SG mode can easily generate it in a few months of casual play. Beyond that the only purpose of generating prestige is to get the badges (which are basically useless since there are no raids going on) and make the SG feel good about itself.

If members of an SG are having arguments about whether they should be running in SG mode or not then that is a problem with the SG and it's members. In a new SG there is a need to run in SG mode to build up the base. If people are complaining about it then they should probably consider trying to find a more established SG instead. Once this is completed then the only reason to generate prestige is to try and compete on the SG rankings. If the SG is dedicated to that then it should be understood amongst all members that SG mode is mandatory. If the SG isn't compeltly dedicated then there is no point in running in SG mode.
  20. Well LGTF already doe sthis sort of (it triggers a Rikti invasion somewhere) so it's not unreasonable. However the impact that it has on other players should be minimal. So shutting down the AE is a no go .

Also a TF that requires PvP rep is just asking for trouble. There are already peopel who complain about the amount of PvE content in PvP zones. Having a TF that is gated by PvP rep means a TF that is basically never run.
  21. It depends a bit on which power you're slotting it in. If you're putting it in Knockout Blow (the power I'd but it in) then I'd probably skip either the Damage or the Proc. Skipping the Dam/End is the best choice if you can handle the increased endurance costs but it's an expensive power so probably not a good choice. With the Damage or the Proc you're decreasing the average damage you do so it's more a case of do you prefer consistent damage that is enhanced by damage buffs or erratic, unenhacneable but higher damage. You could also skip the Dam/Rech depending on how solid the rest of your attack chain is.

If you're slotting it in one of the other SS single target attacks then skip the Dam/Rec. The Damage loss is unnoticeable and you don't need the extra recharge.

There is a certain amount of truth in that. When it comes to advice on in game questions the forums are the best place to go but it is easy to forget that forum-goers are not a representative sampling of the total playerbase on all topics.

  24. The problem with this is that it actually hurts casual players more than marketeers. Marketeers don't make profits due to a lack of transparency on the market (well we do, but it's not our primary profit source) we make most of our profits due to the fluctuations in the supply (and therefore price) of an item over time. Increased transparency of pricing means that casual players will tend to get less for their items.

Increased transparency only tells you the state of the market at a moment in time. Unless you are willing to spend the time following it you don't know how much the item is actually worth, only what people are bidding/asking right now. Currently if a players lists an item below market price they still tend to get something close to the market price since people have no way of knowing exactly what their asking price is. With visible prices anything priced below market price will get snapped up at exactly that price almost immediately. So prices for marketeers will go down. We're the ones who would be checking the market regularly for low bit items to snap up. Conversely the price that BUT IT NAO players pay is unlikely to change, they will just be able to see exaclty what it is.

A double blind auction system is actually one of the fairest market designs out there. The problem is that it requires a bit more effort to learn than the others. The upside is that if you don't learn it you will still tend to get a fair market price when selling.

Finally to everyone who will post in this thread: marketeer, anti-marketeer, and PvPer alike. Mod8 has locked two similar threads in the last week, can we try and keep this one civil?
