  1. The way I'd handle the "custom power selection" part of the XP would be to compare the selected powers with standard/hard/extreme selections of the same powerset.

A custom selection includes all the Standard powers? It gets Standard XP. Includes all the Hard ones? Hard XP. And so on. Nerfs come when you're below standard, if possible I'd add some weight to the powers so as to make more dangerous powers worth more XP - so if you remove the hardest hitting from some set, for example, you lose more XP than if you remove a crappy one - instead of just counting powers. Ranged attack from melee sets removes all XP if removed.

Yes, this potentially leaves the possibility of making custom critters that are more dangerous than standard selections with custom selected powers but still worth less XP, but removes the ridiculousness of needing custom selections to have damn near everything to approach pre-selected sets. You could even select some powers in the sets that, if added, lessen the XP nerf of removing the key powers from Standard (this would be easy in offensive sets, probably not so much in defensive or control sets because "utility" powers may not add that much to difficulty).

Of course, something like that would be a heck of a lot more complex, but there you go.

  3. You know, it just occurred to me that a DM/FA/Blaze may be all sorts of crazy too, thanks to the extra oomph from Fiery Embrace.

I forsee a second build for my DM/FA. This is going to be awesome.

Dunno, I really much prefer a hold over an immobilize, it may come as a personal preference and what we want to do with them, but I tend to see immobilizes like that, on a scrapper, as more of a convenience than a way to help defuse a truly dangerous situation. I think a hold can be more useful that way.

As far as sets go, Basilisk provides 7.5% recharge and 2.5% Energy/Neg defense in 4 pieces, and Lockdown is just pure crazy defense, 2.5% + 3.75% positionals. The numbers are better than decimation/thunderstrike.

  6. <3 TvTropes.

Aliana Blue: My namesake, Inv/EM tank. Started her hero career with a What Have I Done?, and now goes around as The Atoner.
White Flare: Storm/Elec defender, Hot Scientist (of course!) who doubles as a Badass Labcoat. She's not a very deep character, she got powers as an accident, so the only thing to do is to use them of course!
Walkiry and Waldrada: Two Broadsword scrappers, one is /Regen, the other is /Shield. They make a Sibling Team, who just like to fight with Cool Swords. Actually, Walkiry is kinda magically bound to be a guardian for a little girl called Millie and Waldrada started crimefighting just to do it with her sister (but ended in a different Nakama because I can't play both characters at the same time! ).
Spikey Star: Ice/Fire Blapper. I have spent untold amounts of time tweaking and re-tweaking this character so that she is nearly defense-softcapped against everything (really!), but at the expense of running out of juice very quick. I personally find her Crazy Awesome, and her abilities come from stealing a super-powered suit from the Freedom Corps office in London, making it an Upgrade Artifact.
Actin: Dark Melee/Invulnerability Scrapper. She was originally a Valley Girl until she was kidnapped and experimented on by the Council (and, although originally she broke out with another prisoner all by themselves, I changed her origin to be rescued by heroes in one of my arcs) and, since gaining powers due to those experiments, has taken so many Levels in Badass that she's effectively a One (Wo)Man Army. She dislikes Rikti.
Walnut Pie: Dark/Psi defender. She got her powers from eating a magical pie (hence the name), and is by all accounts a Genki Girl, probably fitting the Cute Witch trope nicely. Being a cheery, sunny girl, she doesn't like hurting people too much (even those scary types), but if things go south, you can expect a Let's Get Dangerous reaction from her.
Moon Eclipse: Two twin sisters born during a Moon eclipse that were merged into one body by Selene to prevent their death due to birth complications - thanks to a very heartfelt prayer from their biological mom. A case of Biological Mashup, but without the personality clash problems (they switch places often, and they can be both out at the same time - if only we could customize the looks of the phantasm!). They tend to act as the Cool Big Sis, and I always speak in plural in team chat when playing her, but no one has ever commented on that...
Marionette: Elec/Elec brute. A simple toy built by an old scientist and then upgraded to protect his little granddaughter during the Rikti invasion (which explains why she's so damn good at fighting Rikti, I specifically built her that way), but after a good amount of Break the Cutie she snapped, went on a rampage of Unstoppable Rage, and now is a Woobie Destroyer of Worlds. She really needs a hug.

I better stop, TvTropes is sucking me in... again...

On loading Test I realized that DarK Watcher's arc has too much Nemesis for my taste - not that they're too hard, but I wanted Rikti! So instead I loaded up Serpent Drummer's.

The result was, in a word, Glorious!
  8. I'd trade Ring of Fire for Char, and stick either a Basilisk's Gaze or a Lockdown in there for the set bonuses, depending wether you want more defense or less defense and more recharge.

Similarly, Multi-strike really doesn't do it for me in Lightning Rod or Shield Charge, you really REALLY want more recharge in them! Scirocco is a good option IMO, you can get to the defense bonus with 5 enhancements and stick a recharge IO to really hit the recharge softcap. Obliteration could work too. It makes it more endurance heavy, but I really can't think of Shield Charge or Lightning Rod without 90+ recharge from enhancements. An IO with rech/end to fill in the extra slot (from Kinetic Crash for example) could work as well I guess.

I'd consider Stupefy over Razzle Dazzle for boxing. While it gives less defense, it comes with tasty recharge!

I know of someone who is going to try Dark Watcher's arc set to +4 and 8-people as soon as I get home...
  11. In my experience with this combo, there's no such thing as "something to focus on after recharge" because you can never have enough recharge

The more recharge you have, the less you have to rely on separate endurance recovery. Heals are tied directly to recharge. Just recharge and recharge and more recharge! Extra HP tend to go well with resist sets, and there isn't that much good in terms of resistance bonuses to go around. You can get a modest amount of defense without much trouble (my DM/FA has around 15-18%), but it's all about the recharge!

As a matter of fact, I do!

It's not very flashy though, Actin is not the speediest scrapper.

I still have to try soloing the ITF with her. Talking Rommy, with careful management of AoE so as not to hit the healing fluffy too much, and the other spawned fluffies to fuel SD and DC, she may be able to pull it off. She's got the survivability already, it's a matter of punching hard enough.

  14. If I were you, I'd wait for Issue 16 and make an Elec/Shield scrapper.

I know I'm going to make one.

    It'll be glorious.

Took three tries, but apparently Actin can indeed smack a Pylon with a challenge spawn around her.

Hm, wonder if Actin can manage that in her badass build... brb!
  17. Hm, My first screenshot of soloing an AV is dated 2004-09-26 according to the filename, Countess Crey with my Inv/EM namesake Tank. Bile on 2004-10-03. Got a demo of her soloing Requiem Nov 10th 2004.

Totally not the point of the thread though. Ah, the good old days
  18. I shall declare August 30th to be "Smack an AV" day! Fellow scrappers, next Sunday, take your best weapons out for a spin and make sure you take down at least one AV down for the cause!

There shall be glorious slaughter. Do not disappoint your fellow crazies!

And I demand pics and/or videos to be posted in this thread!

  22. Hey Bubba, when you get to 35+ you can give one of mine a try:

Arc Name: Of Mentors and Legacy
    Arc ID: 1589
    Faction: Hero
    Creator Global/Forum Name: @Aliana Blue
Difficulty Level: Medium-Rare (35-50, AVs and allies to help with them).

There's enough time travel there to make Venture quit after the first mission! (Kidding, kidding... ).

    Thanks!
  23. Hey, 35 should be within range for my high level arc, 1589, "Of Mentors and Legacy". Depending on how you feel about CoT ghosts you may want to wait until 40 (it's only an "issue" in one mission though).

    Thanks!
