Quote:You can't learn anything from ambushes that home in, follow you, and ignore stealth. Except maybe how true 'The Computer is a Cheating Gobshite' is.Dealing with ambushes is something to learn as well. Kiting, using cover, manipulating the AI, these are all things you can learn even in a mission on +0/x1.
I would hope that a new player learns not to just stand there and accept the ambush and instead DOES something about it. -
This.
I found it useful last night, I admit, because the mutha-******' RNG refused to give me the 6 shards I needed. Everyone else was getting bloody Purples and shards in double figures, whereas I ONLY scraped 5 becuase we went back and killed the map of the last mission once it was already over! I then broke down the Hero 1 DNA for the last shard.
50% I can live with. 75% is just farcical. -
Hey, the last mission room in the LGTF has been bugged to graphical hell since...I think since I10.
I've never been under the disillusion that our Devs do anything fast unless it's totally gamebreaking. I'm not knocking the restults, sure...but 'More Haste and, oh, hey, Speed too!' would be quite nice in a few areas. -
I think pets were plain derpy before/after that, tbh. I think they really broke out into the HURRer we have today when Demons came out. Everything suddenly seemed to get about ten times worse around then. IIRC, didn't Demons get patched because all they used to do was sit at range and pelt stuff, despite being a heavily melee set?
-
Quote:Thats also a horrible example. The Hollows mobs in the Gulch were invariably purple and heavily Boss laden. If nothing else, they taught you how the hell to stay away out of aggro range.I think you sorely underestimate the tenacity of new players.
I know *I* didn't get discouraged when I died over and over in the Hollows way back when...and in my perspective, the Hollows was *mandatory* then too.
This is getting spanked about by +0/x1 mobs in a basic instance. There is a whole world of difference there. -
Quote:And this is where Villains win. We get to not only beat up Recluse's lackeys, Recluse himself, but we also get to kick the everloving crap out of all the big name Heroes too!Being able to team up with an icon has an appeal... until you realize that everyone else can and does too. Nothing shoots down the awesome rating faster than turning into the village bicycle.
Always being locked into a role of a background character to the "real" heroes is also a turn-off. We've had our share of complaints back in the day about game lore and basically coming off as Freedom Phalanx' second-stringers.
Triumph; it tastes of win

Yup. I honestly swear I might as well have Controller pets, for all the listening the little sods actually do.
Stay and go aggressive! They don't stay.
Follow me! They do so briefly, then charge off on their own agenda
Go back to Defensive! It takes them about five solid shots to actually realise they need to fire back.
Go to there! They take a bloody age to break off and spaz-twitch there way there. Badly. -
Quote:Alright, I'll explain further.Sorry, but your 'Hell no. Just... no. Sorry.' isnt a valid reason
This is basically giving those with a bigger wallet a not slight advantage over those who don't have it. Sure, it puts them on a level palying field with those who do have it....Players who have rewards for in-game activities that other players could just as equally go and get if they got off their (in-game) backsides and went and put the effort in.
Not everyone has the Accolades anyway. It just seems like a really daft thing to give for a monitary value. Theres no precedent for it.
And you pretty much cannot get to a decent PvP point without playing the PvE game. So...saying you only want to PvP would only hold water if there was an option for an insta-50 PvP Only Character. Which I also don't see happening anyime soon.
And yes, I do PvP, albeit in slightly closed circles in Union. -
Quote:Hell no. Just...no. Sorry.
Add a PvP Booster Pack. This would include Accolades that provide you with buffs equal to existing Accolades. This would be +15% max HP and End, and the click power accolades (think demonic, geas, meglo, etc) for PvP use ONLY. These would not stack with the other accolades. (pve equivalnts: +max HP,+max End, Geas/FoN, Magnus/Demonic, Elusive Mind,Vanguard/Meglomanic) This is generally already able to be done mechanic wise, it would just be a matter of putting all together in a package. Possible add in a Pocket D teleporter as well since people tend to gather there for kickball and other arena events.
However;
Quote:Change how pvp loot is awarded. Use the existing bounty system from sirens and make it for all pvp and make a store to spend your bounty on the loot.
Add more lower tier pvp recipes/IOs. Not everything in PVP needs to be top of the line. Just make something comparable to the level 50 uncommon and rare recipes and their bonus' (think doctored wounds and numina's sets)
Remove Heal Decay (HD). Just remove it please. There is no need for it.
Revert Travel Suppression (TS). Change travel suppression back to pve travel suppression. This will make Kinetic buff more viable in zones and arena pvp. As it is now if more then one person is attacking you and you don't have an escape power or lots of greens you will not be able to evade very well and more then likely die. Evading is a big part of survival in pvp and TS just make it so you can not evade nearly as effectively. (again this is a major dead horse...)
Yes, yes, and yes. Please.
Given the recent Rp Gladiators event on Union, I've taken a bit of a reknewed interest in PvP, and well, y'know...it's stil broke.
*Mumbles "Arcanaville, Arcanaville, Arcanaville..."* -

Given that the rest of the game is balanced around SOs, I would be VERY adverse to seeing that take a hold. Because if it effects everything, that will simply make the low levels of defence sets an utter, utter hell.
-
Quote:STAY! MEANS! STAY!+1. I also want a rooting/self immob power on the pets when you tell them to move to a spot, instead of taking off down a hall to brawl some random mob, the pets will actually stay where you put them.
Ye gods, Stay is the most broken command ever! I was trying to use it on the ITF last night to make sure my pets would stay the hell out of melee.
Stay and set to aggressive, right? That'll make them do that!
No...no it won't. They fire one shot then blimble off into melee range again.
Ok, Stay and Defensive, right? That'll-

Quote:I hope you mean res, or I'm going to have to come over there, kill you and take your secrets for the glory of SCIENCE!On my Invulnerability, the guys who summon cairns are more annoying than the ones who summon quartz. On Invulnerability, when defense fails, I've got 90% Smashing/Lethal defense.

Quote:Yes, yes this is true...And yet by the late 40s all that's left is ice thorn casters and death mages, turning them from the Circle of Dooooom into the Circle of Fail.
I think Praetoria isn't the only area of the game where the difficulty runs backwards from what it should
Whats the whole thing with Behemoth overlords suddenly being wussy little Lieutenants? I liked them when they were Boss con!
And Nightwidows! Christ alive, leave them as Boss con! Having Smoke Grenade spammed at you ever other spawn is beyond a joke. It's another, very nigh auto-hit 'Haha you lose' power that seriously annoys me.
I still don't understand why there is City of Heroes CoT and City of Villains CoT. Why not merge the two? Add Hellfrosts and Succubi to higher levels, Hordelings and all that....add more variety! -
You know what I really, really hate?
Old style MoG on Crey PPs and especially on Valkyrie.
Who decided that thing was going to last that long? So...she can't even dent us....and we can't dent her. For 15 freaking minutes. How....lame. -
Quote:Oh god, CoT ghosts and Ruin mages. I utterly despise the 12-24 ish range on CoT, simply because, for what you are using at the time, they have so much cheatyHax to throw about that it's unreal. The need for new art assets, I would assume? I agree though, Crey is boring to fight at high levels, variety would be nice.
Although I'm glad that Circle ghosts stop showing up after a while. Hate them.
I guess it would require new art asssets, yeah. However, given the recent trend for what seems like combining existing parts with other NPC parts (Look at Leonard the contact redside. He has Dr Aeon's gloves, an Arachnos shoulder chest plate and other, non-unique parts made into one mesh.) I wouldn't have thought it would require that much effort....I may well be wrong, though. Otherwise we'd have seen mobs get a much needed graphical update by now...right?

Quote:My problem with Nems is...I'm a Bots MM. I literally get no choice except AoE falvoured death. And I like to fight on x8 because, well...I have the build, I have the Alpha slot, it's really the only thing thats above a boardwalk for me on Alpha now.Ah, see, my 'main' is MA/Inv, so I basically have no choice but to kick their butts one at a time. I can see how if you're just leaping in and AOEing (which is awesome for 95% of stuff) then catching multiple Vengeances stacking would be an issue.
I don't honestly mind Nems and such so much, other than the fact I find them mind-numbingly dull from a design perspective. As someone who takes a great interest in that side of game-making an design as a whole, I honestly do think I could do a better job of it, too
-
If they weren't scaling up well I can see why...but why not replace them with Armoured Science Units, Rapid Response Guard forces and Elite Cyborg Agents that are pretty much like Arnie-eque Terminators wearing fake skin? Add some variety to the mobs at least, not make them bland and as boring as all hell...
-
Yeah. I agree with him, this time. And I think the Devs should be quite happy with him comparing it to CityOf and saying it fails in comparison
-
Quote:I can very easily believe that to be true.Seems to me that Praetorian ambushes may be broken. I haven't seen that behavior myself, but judging by other replies here they don't work like 'normal' ambushes. So yes, in that context I would say you shouldn't be dying that much, but not because the difficulty is too high - because the ambushes aren't 'working' correctly.
-
Quote:I couldn't agree more.
I don't see what the big deal is if a mission is incredibly hard to solo at +1/x4. That is just the way it goes.
Also, I don't mind DE and their cheating. Those are easy enough to get around using various tactics. What I have the biggest problem with is Nemesis and their stacking vengeance.
Haaaaaaattttteeeeee!!!
Nemesis I cannot stand. Not only do they kick out an insane ammount of AoE (Flamethrower and Full Auto? On Minions? Really?), have some of the most evil snipers in the game and only two bosses that are also high up in the league of evil, but they seem to spam LTs, all of which are just as bad for turning mobs into unkillable armies.
I appreciate Nems are end-game mobs. That said, they start off at least being a bit more balanced. They have AoE units, ST units, surgeon units, and Jaegers all thrown into the mix.
By the end? Dragoons with heavy gatling-flamers, LTs by the metric crapton, and Fake Nems. Because they really needed more stacked defences.
The thing that bugs me about end-game mobs is the lack of creativity. Crey mid levels; suited agents, riot guards, power armour, heavy power armour and Protectors. High levels? Power armour. And Protectors. And thats IT. Its boring, dull and leaves no room for anything tactical. Nems are the same, only they actually trade out variety for a massive 'I Win' Button. -
Yeah, I got some hideous fake security pop-up thing which has me worrying slightly about my PC now...
Edit: Working ok now....except for the bleeding adverts -_- -
Hmm...this thread has actually given me an idea now...
