  1. Thanks for the info, Castle!
  2. I created an account. I made myself a fan. I *still* don't understand the point of FaceBook.

    *sigh* So old....

I missed getting into Paragon City on the day it was released, but I was close. Been here ever since.

I remember my first evening. Going through the tutorial on my tiptoes, not knowing what to expect, not realizing how hard you would have to try to actually die in Outbreak.

Going up a fire escape in Atlas Park and almost getting my butt handed to me by level 5 Hellions. I was just stunned that I could go up at all!

Teaming with a RL friend and doing a 5th Column mission. It was in the warehouse map, and when we got to the final room I looked over the rail and saw a cluster of neo-Nazis below me. I looked around for the stair and then thought "Stairs? Why would I need stairs, I'm a super-hero!" and leaping over the rail, going into a perfect iron cross on the way down, landing and kicking the [censored] out of the Columnists!

Thanks for 4 great years, Paragon City! Looking forward to 4+ more!

    Fixed that for you.

Similar in concept to our character creator, it allows you, the players, to create missions and story arcs for your characters and others to participate in. You’ll be able to pick the map, villain group, and objectives, as well as write the dialog and any clues needed for the missions. When you are satisfied with it, you can upload it and have other players across all servers play it and rate it. Fame will come to the players whose stories rate the best overall. It is features like these that we never dreamed of including when we first shipped, but are excited to be able to offer players very soon.

Actually Legion, there's at least two superheroes I can think of that had 'dark' powers. Cloak from Marvel had them, he's practically the posterchild for them. And there was a member of the Legion of Superheroes over in DC that had them (cant' remember her name though). Mind you, I'd still like to see Empathy brought over in some, but just sayin'.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Her name was Shadow Lass (or Umbra, in later incarnations). Also, I would hardly classify Cloak as a hero, maybe as an anti-hero.
  9. Ha ha! Improved character creator! Happy April Fools day!

    Oh, wait....
  10. Wow, the heroes get the uranium mine...the villains get the shaft.
  11. I responded to this in your thread about splasher, but this was so full of awesomesauce I had to post again.

::gives Leandro the deed to all future internets::
  12. This looks nice, I really like the QoL items. I'm pretty "meh" on the villain epic, but I dust off my villains so infrequently I'm not concerned.

So, any chance I could get an invite to the closed beta?

I'd love to see a new system of advancement above 50 that doesn't use XP, but rather tracks advancement based on completion of certain tasks. As rewards, give out some special non-slot powers, costumes, badges, invention rewards, SG rewards, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For instance, to get L51, you'd have to complete all of the storylines from all prior contacts, excluding TFs. For 52, you must complete all normal zone TFs. For 53, complete all the oddball TFs like Hollows, Croatoa, Strigga, RWZ, etc. CoV would need more content for this to work for them, as well, but then CoV needs more content compared to CoH anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No.

I don't care about any of that. I just want to grind mishes and level. Don't force me to play your way just to level up.

I used to get together with some friends once a week at a local Chili's to discuss our results/plans for the turn of Middle Earth Play by Mail wargame we were on. Imagine a couple guys in suits and ties, and a couple guys in T-shirts & shorts, all with briefcases sitting around eating chips, and discussing how best to assassinate the Witch-King of Angmar and mobilize troops to protect the southern flank of the Greenwood from the Dog Lords heavy cavalary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No worse than heading out to Taco Bell and discussing our current Champions campaign, which involved aliens having taken over the town. Nothing gets the attention of fellow diners quicker than discussing the best place in town to drop a tactical nuke to divert attention away from our raid on their HQ...

Or heading over to the Krispy Kreme after the midnight showing of RHPS - still in costume.

For an excellent tretise on the positive uses of violence refer to the Novel (Dear god not the movie) Starship Troopers. I hear it's the only work of fiction that is required reading at Officer's School.

    Heinlein FTW!

(Also read "Stranger in a Strange Land", please.)

Don't just read it. Grok it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Freehold was pretty interesting too - free too! (webscriptions.net) Of course, I prefer my paperback copy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't really like Freehold all that much. It was OK, just not one of my favorites.

I enjoyed all the 'teen' ones he did, like Starman Jones and Have Space Suit Will Travel. Interestingly enough, Starship Troopers was originally written to be part of that same 'teen' contract, but was rejected for being too violent, so it was published separately.

My second favorite is probably Job, a Comedy of Justice. Or Friday. Or Stranger in a Strange Land. Oh, nevermind, I'll never make up my mind.

    "Moral Combat"

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm extremely disappointed that an image of Statesman would be used in such a way. I know that we designed City of Heroes to appeal to "children of all ages." My proudest accomplishment with the game is that many parents (including my brother) play with their children...sharing, I hope, the same joy for the comic book world that I've had ever since I was 8. I cannot express the shock that I felt seeing that a character created by Cryptic would be used in the same sentence as Columbine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Consider the source, States. The opinions of worthless people are worthless.

When I was a little kid, my mom noticed an increase in hostility in my brother and myself when we watched certain cartoons (which shall remain nameless because it's irrelevant).

Noticing this, my mother did not 1) Attempt to have those cartoons banned, 2) Raise a hue and cry about how those cartoons were ruining children, or 3) Attempt legal action against the makers of the cartoons.

What did she do? She forbade us to watch them. Then she PAID ATTENTION TO WHAT WE WERE DOING so we could not sneak off and watch them behind her back.

Did it work? I dunno. I did stop trying to stave in my brother's skill with a Tonka truck, but I'll leave as an excercise to the reader what was the real source of my change away from violent behavior.
  23. I guess this must be just me, but the Police Band missions are regularly generating mobs at +1-2 instead of +0-1 for me on heroic. Happened all three times last night, and in the SG mish the vilain was Orange (although still a lt) instead of yellow.

Is this by design? I don't remember Newspaper/Mayhem missions working like this, although it's been a while since I did lowbie newsies (the PB mishes were on my lvl 5 PeaceBringer).
