  1. The Updater seems to be doing something now after finding the correct copy...

    Fixing files: piggs/geom.pigg

1193046:22:54 remaining... Erm, I'm not sure it's supposed to take that long!

And oh yes, what is 63.0K? If not kilobytes then what?

EDIT: Problem now fixed. Due to a previous PC virus incident I had 2 copies of the CoHUpdater. Changing the second one to the proper .eu suffix it now works! Thankfully. No idea what that weird update was above. I'm guessing it was not intended...
  2. I think you've answered your question within your post: if the knockback resist only applies to knockback and not down or up then I think this could be an interesting workaround for the Tank + Energy Blast/Telekinetic Thrust etc problem.

Alternatively some kind of proc in Taunt to produce this effect might be useful although I'm not sure a negative knockback proc would actually work. Might be wrong.

The other problem I see is powers like Hand Clap, used by a Tank that's just taunted to add further soft control.

I am not a numbers person but these are just a few observations.

Without wishing to derail too much from the OP, I think any map with elevators needs close scrutiny as to where the mission entrance is and where the Xs and Os are. On a lot of office maps, for example, the 'Back' is actually next to the entrance and the map system seems to get confused, thinking that the starting floor is the back of the map, especially if the elevators go DOWN rather than UP.

With regards to the Nav Text problem, are your rescues grouped together as '2 citizens to rescue' or are they 2 separate entities? Also check to see how many rescues are available on that map. If it's only one then it might be bugging the 2 rescues and just disregarding them. Try something simple like moving them to the top of the objective list and seeing if that helps.

Failing that, it could be a positional problem. In which case do a test run with both rescues set to Any and see if they reappear. If they don't then I'd send a bug report.
  4. W00t 3rd place! Thank you very much!

I am endeavouring to play through all the arcs in the list now and I'm really grateful for the publicity this competition has given my arc.

Extra thanks go to Bubbawheat and Tangler. For organising the competition and being the first voter respectively
  5. With the recent announcenment of issue 17 I imagine that any idea about level cap raising is firmly squished. Thank goodness!

The Positron TF is being rewritten with a new enemy faction included. It will be in two parts. It is not a new 50 arc, but a rewrite of a painful 10-15 TF that forms part of a very useful accolade.

New arcs for Red and Blue levels 20-30: Although there is a lot of content for those levels already, please consider that much of the Hero stuff (apart from Striga and Croatoa) is running around Independence Port... Whilst I enjoy Christine Lansdale's timed missions and the Freaklympics arc, I will enjoy more content for 20-30 which, without any further details, I believe will be the set-up for Going Rogue. (The issue is called 'Through the Glass Darkly' or similar)

The cap on number of active missions will be raised from 3 to 7.

At level 50, whilst you can probably have 4 or 5 active missions due to contacts (at least Blueside, including RWZ and Cimerora) I think this will benefit more the characters levelling from about 25 onwards, when XP does take a slight hike in rate to achieve the next level. It should also make teaming (everyone doing the same arcs for Reward Merits) more accessible.

My point? These kinds of QoL and new content additions to the game are far more worthy of my time than an increase from 50-60 and so on. What bigger threat can the OP devise than the Praetorians, Requiem, Malta et al? I'd rather see more movement of level ranges for existing mobs so that, perhaps, Banished Pantheon range from 20-50 without that mysterious gap after 30 or so.

Variety is the spice of life, and quality wins over quantity any day of the week.
  6. A Heart Breaking Story

    Alignment: Heroic
    Creator: @Arctic Princess
    Level: 5-10
    Arc ID #378511
Synopsis: Henry Peter Wong asks you to investigate the disappearance of a team of newly-registered Heroes. One of the said Heroes happens to be a Nuclear Ninety teenager by the name of Daniel Carson. Will you be able to save Danny and his teammates from the clutches of the Vazhilok?!
    Enemy Groups: Vazhilok, Council

Phew, managed to email the entry in last night (not wanting to risk any errors in working out the difference between CST and GMT and lose out on entry to this competition!).

It's a short enough arc with, I hope, enough of a twist to make the player go 'Ooh!'

I've categorised the arc as 'Ideal for Teams', 'Canon-Related', and 'Sci-Fi'.

    Enjoy.

  8. "Certainly got a knack for the dramatic. You should fit in quite well 'ere." The Captain remarked. He had lit another pipe and was studying Tafari with great interest.

Smith, quivering like a jellyfish, followed the pair as they wended their way through uneventful jungle. The air was filled with buzzing noises, hoots, calls and rustling. The Captain kept a cool watch whilst Smith jumped at every noise. It was as if the man wasn't really used to this place.

The trio reached the edge of the jungle in a few minutes, which made no sense consdering its apparent size from the starting point at the beach. The Captain seemed perfectly well and healthy whereas Smith was red-faced and out of breath.

The Captain pointed upwards to the hut on top of the mountain. Perspectives changed and shifted, although it could have easily been a trick of the light. The hut stood atop the rock and, from the edge, Gramma Perkins waved to them with a tea tray in her hand.

"Coo eee!" She called down. "You took your time. Now hurry on up here! I have portents to divulge."

I think they should get a little more play, and a few active agents each--something like the Kheldian arcs. Every 10 levels or so, your Origin group should contact you for an arc, exploring the different approaches each takes to heroism.
That's possibly the sanest and most appealing way of making Origins matter to me. I approve of this wholeheartedly.

There are already origin-specific contacts - the enhancement vendors in FF and Bricks. I see no reason why they can't have an expanded set of missions, perhaps even repeatable ones that pit you against enemies aligned with the origin (in the same way the starting contacts give you Hellions for Magic, Clocks for Tech, Vaz for Science, Council for Natural (at that point you know no better) and...uh... Skulls for Mutation? Perhaps they should be changed to infected?).

The way I see it GIFT would have some difficulty in having 'original' minions. Mutation is the sort of origin that is difficult to pin down to any one particular power set, in my opinion.

The rest thought could fit in quite neatly with either existing mobs ported over or new critters with 'relevant' powers.

For instance, from levels 1-29, Crey could (in effect) be the people who appear as allies/contacts for ELITE, SERAPH, GIFT and DATA branches of the FBSA. The Legacy Chain would be good for MAGI arcs. I think that the Midnight Squad need to retain their separation from this style of contact missions.

I see DATA and SERAPH as having access to things like confiscated Nemesis Staves (Staves or Staffs is the plural of Staff in that context?), EMP gloves, Poison-style powers (with Science Booster animations, naturally) and the odd bit of experimental armour.

There could even be contact stores available that sell the temp powers available in game (the EMP glove, for example, is given out in a 14-ish mission vs the Clockwork) with some new ones added in that, say, do extra damage vs Devouring Earth or Carnies (I was thinking of Vernon when I typed Devouring Earth).

However, I fear I have been making a suggestion as opposed to discussing the OP. So I say go ahead and perhaps design some arcs to highlight how you'd like the factions to be redesigned or even make the arcs/custom critters for an FBSA Origins idea.

    "Boom."
    The Captain and Smith jumped.

    Quote:
The imp was blasted by a surge of golden-orange energy, which coursed through its frame and seemed to continually explode. There was suddenly another-burst, and a bolt of more golden-orange energy shot from the first imp into the second, and then into the fourth and so forth until it reached all the way down the line, as if it had been chain-inducted over.
The Captain and Smith stood stock still, shielding their eyes. The imps all fell over backwards, their little feet waving in the air. They looked like flies that had flown into an insect light trap. There was even a cute little 'bzzzz' noise although both men considered this wasn't so cute when a smell of burnt hair filled the air.

"I see you go in for a bit of righteous thunder, quite literally."

The Captain sounded impressed. There was a tiny flicker of fear behind his words.

"Useful that. If those 'arpies come back we'll have plenty to eat and no mistake."

    "Wh-wh-wh-wh.." Smith stuttered.

"Spit it out, boy!" The Captain bellowed.

"WHAT WAS THAT?!" It came out like cannon fire.
  11. Posted my exit from the topic!

I've been using the thread as plot expanding stuff although I'm not at liberty to say for whom.

Plus, Pointy, it's an internet forum-style program - I think it's quite realistic to have that kind of discussion. Especially as I swear we all stooped fairly closely, with our characters, to an invocation of Godwin's Law.

Someone will be watching the room very closely...
  12. Peacmaker's avatar stands up and emotes a shake of his head.

"Tempers are running high. They are bound to when a discussion of an event such as this occurs. However, I believe Longstaff to be in the clear. From my understanding of the situation, Molly Longstaff should incur no further penalty with regards to public opinion as she was one of many who were present during a conflict which amounts to the everyday skirmishes between Heroes and Villains.

The Villains of the Rogue Isles are, no doubt, laughing at the sudden wave of conspiracy theories generated by snippets of film, tidbits of gossip and probably, if Arachnos's track record is anything to go by, a campaign of propaganda funded by the Spiders."

The information box is updated, on purpose, and reflects the following:

Location: Freedom Corps Plaza, Galaxy City.
    ID: FBSA E.L.I.T.E. 26481

"Freedom of speech prevents me from outing various members of this room who are suspected of drumming up opposition to the Hero involvement in Bloody Bay, Siren's Call, Warburg and Atlas Park. As does the EULA and other legal restrictions placed on account usage."

    Peacmaker turns to Mimi Lolcat.

"You are free to ban this account at your discretion. I believe we have retrieved all the data needed in this exercise."

With that rather abrupt statement, the avatar logs out.

I was just about to post Penny Preston when I read this.
I think Penny, especially as she's such a Statesman fan, would be a perfect addition to the Phalanx 2020/2050!

    Now for the enemies...

I'm not sure but I think there should be at least a new alien threat. I'm guessing that the Rikti situation is resolved and they have taken on a working-partnership role within the CoX Universe. There'd still be some crazies out there, the types that are living in a time hole that still think the war is ongoing, but they'd be a minority.

Crey could be taken over by a new CEO but still retain its sinister connections to the past.

But most of all I'd like to see a Tyranny Legion 2020/2050!

    Any ideas for members?
  14. Thanks for clearing that up Thirty-Seven. I never knew that.

Well, I retract my post (but would still like to see more stuff about the Pantheon!).

*scurries off to the MA to dream up arcs for them*
  15. Peacmaker returns, this time however some thought has been put into the avatar:

The figure is still male but is sporting a black polo neck, a black eye mask, a white belt and blue jeans.

The information has been updated too: It lists the user as male, living and working in Galaxy City, likes pizza and fries and hates Barbra Streisand films.

"Sorry for that. Got a few problems with my rig. Had to do a system reboot."

The avatar brings up a window requesting a full update of the room's chatlogs. The avatar itself assumes a sitting cross-legged position on the blue side of the room.

He grimaced.
The Captain considered his very tall companion and glanced at Smith occasionally.

"Colourful language but I thinks I gets the gist of it."

    Quote:
"So yeah. I'm thinkin' this is just another [censored] headache like the rest of 'em. There's always a way to undo everything, I just don't know what that thing is for this place yet."
"Well lad, I can assure you we ain't got no problems 'ere that the simple application of a crowbar or a pistol won't fix in a jiffy. Always a rusty lock on a mysterious treasure chest or else Gramma 'as a vision and we gets an infestation of flyin' 'arpies and suchlike."

The Captain grimaced at the thought. He subconsciously picked something out of his teeth. Smith likewise hunched his shoulders and groaned.

"I hope it isn't the harpies this time, Captain. They were very... tenacious."

"And I never 'ave got ole Bessie clean from all the poop!' The Captain chuckled.

"Or the feathers... the feathers..." Smith trailed off, lost in some personal nightmare.

"OOOGA!" A phalanx of little imps, wearing white kevlar and crash helmets and carrying oversized (for them) spears stood in the path of the Captain, Smith and Tafari.

    The Captain pointed at Tafari.

    "After you, sir."
  17. It may sound a bit odd but there's an office block in Kings Row that, until fairly recently (some point last year) and after 4 years of playing the game, I didn't even know existed.

It's a massive tower block with a central courtyard, the occasional Skulls mob hangs around there. You can fly right up the courtyard to the top of the building.
  18. Banished Pantheon - specifically the 'Wheel of Destruction' arc as they are 'guest stars' in other arcs they appear in. They do appear in the 40+ range but I believe that's a one-off Portal Corps mish.

The BP are pretty awesome, in my opinion, and as their name suggests they were once very powerful gods who were banished for whatever reason. I say tie them up to the game lore a bit more, make them supporters of Rularuu who promised them the permanent resurrection of Adamastor and a return to their seat of power.
  19. I would like:

An Underling class for customs introduced. Underlings currently are the only mob type I know of that can move between elevators. They tend to give out reduced xp/inf as it stands so perhaps this won't be a popular request.

There is one group of Underlings in the standard mobs already - Loyalists. And Rikti monkeys are selectable as Underlings too. Swarms are not, afaik, selectable as a mob type as they come under the class of Summons. I could easily be wrong.

A community competition to come up with a temp power, originally designed by a player but deemed to be balance-able enough to work as something which can either be present as a proper temp power in the winning arc (with the yellow 'You have gained a temporary power' text) OR from an AE rep.

Single Hero/AV/Boss spawns (i.e. with no surrounding critters) - a limit on how many of these are available would need to be introduced to discourage power levelling and excessive low-risk farming rewards.

Single Hero/AV/Boss ambushes (i.e. with no surrounding critters) - again, limits would need to be placed

The return of destructible objects which do damage. I understand the reasoning behind it (to prevent whole outdoor maps filled to the brim with explosives and high XP giving mobs) BUT without the explosions I think there's a lack of tactics needed to take them down. If I was wailing, for instance, on a barrel of dynamite, I'd expect it to blow up and cause some damage. And so what if it makes sense to get past an objective that has mobs and an explosive object by using ranged powers? In the Hollows, certainly, there's a good reason to learn how to do this. And fighting Warhulks later on.

Things I would like to change about the suggestions so far:

I say no to Teleport. Sorcerers, Rikti Headman Gunners, Porters and Gunslingers have access to this power but I do not believe it would be possible to have decent AI attached to custom critters in the same way. Also, I think it could bork certain objectives (especially Boss runs on low health) if the boss teleported away instantly failing the mission.

I'd like to suggest then that the option to have downed enemies 'teleport' away (either like Positron in Tina MacIntyre's arc or Captain Castillo in the Faultline arc) - by use of a drop down special 'when defeated / at 10% health play this fx' section. And to start I'd like to see it on boss objectives only (this would include anything deemed a boss by the player, of course, but would prevent whole mobs 'teleporting away when defeated' and should avoid mass graphic card burnout! )

Superspeed - short of picking a secondary like Quickness or Lightning Reflexes - I'd like to see in the travel powers section as 'Increased Speed' - mobs in question are capable of running at much higher levels than standard but this does NOT mean increased recharge on powers.

Susbsequently I'd quite like to have a 'Zombie Shuffle' option on travel powers for customs. And a 'Slow/Robot' travel option. Otherwise everything ends up running at the same speed. These are minor points, however.

Super Leap seems reasonable to me. Some Tsoo bosses have it already as standard (although on office maps EVERY mob seems to have it... or at least Hurdle and Combat Jumping)

I'd say no to the Epics/Ancilliaries. What I'd rather see is a 'Resistance' power that has a points system and can be given to critters to tweak their resistances to certain things. Of course that is a big ask but then this is a suggestions thread and not a 'this will happen for definite'.

    I am not a coding/numbers/balance guy.
  20. Peacmaker shows signs of logging out of the chat room.
  21. I think it should be fine, especially as now the Hide attack bonus doesn't last until the critter is destroyed (!).

If it proves too easy (!) then I'd suggest chucking in some Night Widows too for that added -Per challenge.

    Or some Spectral Knights...

Actually ignore that, Spectral Knights are just plain evil.

[Standard code rant, etc. all apply, of course.]
To back up the point about improving QoL - when the other station was introduced to Skyway it was a godsend! Skyway, especially with the potential lack of travel powers, was a horrible place to traverse around and when they added the Bloody Bay PvP talkie mish, even moreso (especially if I'd already used up a 'complete this mission'!).

"We ain't cannibals. You 'as to watch the Oogas, 'specially if they gets 'flighty'. Still I reckon a man of your size could probably blow them all away, literally."
