new for i17 non-player created content!
Ever wanted to make missions for a game you never played?
Now's your chance with CoX's new Non-player mission creator. First we paid people to make missions for our game, but that didn't seem to go to well, then we had the people paying us to play the game make their own missions and boy that was a can of worms! So now it is your turn the other billion people on the planet not playing our game, We somehow doubt you'll do any worse! -
dUmb doesn't make the front page news because dUmb doesn't have a thread .... or a ®

I think my plan is to ticket cap a few toons before i16; and just use them to buy missing salvage as the need arises, with 15 storage bins I should be able to make those tickets last a few months.
I don't get a lot of time to farm these days but I am looking forward to seeing how well my Frad does on NetherGoat's zombie map set for 6 or 8 .... on a side note in the current system if you are set to setting 2 or 4 and have a full team isn't that spawning for 9 ? -
-
hey now, careful with the real and helpful advice there. keep that up and people may figure out they don't have to bid the same as what the last one went for!

I did that a while back with Luck Charms, it was a hoot! and effected the market for almost a whole day.
... I say you try Luck Charms next, 33% more fun in buying all of them .... -
I agree,
The conspiracy theorist in me now wonders if virtual teams is a ploy to hamstring farmers. The general population will be less willing to anchor/fill/pad teams because that isn't needed any more. even tho the drop rate is much lower with virtual teaming.
The developer in me thinks this is a bug no different that ticket drop bug when AE shipped (the one where not only were ticket drops split with the team but the number of tickets where split too ( ie: solo you would get say 10 tickets with 2 you would get 5, but only half the time)) -
Quote:I have to disagree here, more changeling badges is exactly what the badging mini-game needs. especially now that there are fewer challenges left.I don't know, Sardan.
There is still a dedicated minigame to getting all badges, it's just less painful. I'm all for adding new badges to existing content, but I don't think any other additional changes really need to be made to existing changes to make the challenge more difficult.
Quote:I've had at least one friend quit the game for over two years because he couldn't stand hunting DE eminators with me. A lot of the badges they changed here were either impossible to get or just plain unfun to get. Especially Toxic Tarantulas.
To use a personal example, Bug hunter, it's a badge and it is earnable, but I have no interest in working for free. QA in a gaming company is a job that should be respected and paid IMO, not something that you let your players pay you to do. (but I don't want to go off on a tagent here) So I won't be getting Bug Hunter. I don't bemoan the system for my choice.
I am glad you'll be able to take advantage of the new lower goals for the badges. -
The idea defiantly has merit. I assume a lot of the backend work moving the Ouror. badge requirements the the "real world" TFs would be fairly painless. The issue would be the new code to award the "non-badge" badges. or clusters as noted above.
Hmm, maybe something as easy as Positron TF Challenge 1-x badge; and then assigning the number to a specific challenge and an anti-farming bit would be only one challenge can be awarded per run, unlike currently where you can get get no travel speed, and enemies buffed in one fail swoop. So yeah running Positron a dozen times would keep most people busy for at least a long weekend -
Quote:I like the badge minigame too, I just don't think it should require or encourage unchallenging behavior (AFK badge farming) in order to be successful.
The Ouroboros badges are an example of a good set of badges. There's a lot of them, and they're tough to get (last night I slogged my way through a couple 1-14 arcs, it was torture), but the only way for you to get them is to work through them. That's a challenge I appreciate (even if I do start hurling obscenities at the screen...). Taking 10 million trillion damage? Defeating 10,000 Flying Dingus Minions? Not so much.
I fully admit I AFK'ed a few of the badges, but that was my choice, If I chose not to I could have gotten most of the badges anyway. For me most all of my game play revolves around efficiency, including badges.
I agree the Ouro badges were a fun set to get, and glad they didn't get nerfed too,
Challenge rewards are sometimes in the journey, sometimes in the destination. -
Quote:I can only speak for myself and not for all of "they"Those who complain of the amount of their time "wasted" arena farming didn't need to be very smart. All the signs pointed to it being an eventual nerf bat target.
* The proponents did everything possible to hide the activity on these forums. Including warning others not to organize on these forums.
* A large amount of testing went into various means to get the best possible return for the least effort. This testing revealed an aberrant pattern, namely arena targets at full health counted for the badge. At this point the previous method was dropped as being too difficult (having mesons was popular at one point).
*The developer stance towards AE farming. At this point I think we're lucky to still have the badges.
* No one forced them to be impatient and get the badges through farming.
Time did go into testing and figuring out the best way to get the sought reward, that is no different than playing the game when really you break it down and look at it. People have figured out the best ways to achieve all sorts of things, from from fast task force runs, to quicker ways around the city ( really was Ouroborus primary design to be an express route to Atlas or PI?) even more efficient use of mission selections. That min/max spirit is seen in pretty much every aspect of the game, not just in the bading mini-game
The whole point of the game is to achieve goals and have fun doing it. For some that means running the ITF in 22 minutes; for others it is earning 100 million a day on the market; for a few it is having the highest badge count they can get. If I choose to get those badges by means that you don't approve of that doesn't invalidate either of our points of view. Really your opinion is no more valuable than mine.
you seem to take every argument around to the healing badges why is that? What about leader. The one badge you got through "normal game play" Or back from the future? I personally earned that when there was no team credit or deadman swapping. I feel you would be hard pressed to say I got that badge through any fringe or exploitative methods and they nerfed that one too, even though it was earnable if you wanted, and hell after they allowed team credit it was 8x easier to earn
And now I read that they lowered the SG badges too, as if to say entire groups can't earn these badges? sheesh! To me it looks like the devs seem to feel we are just that bad at playing their game.
I am not upset that they lowered the goal post for a great many badges. I am upset that this and in conjunction with the AE badge nerf seems to state that the devs no longer want a badge mini-game. I enjoyed that game and I will miss playing it.
At this point in the life cycle of the game when they should be making things more of a challenge to us as players they are doing the opposite. In some desperate attempt to create a challenge they are now letting us be our own virtual teams. How about some content that is hard, or badges that are challenge? and I mean more than these two new MotX Cause really go slow and and bring a bubbler and a cold/ isn't really a challenge.
I am not /ragequit-ing or anything, hard to do so when your account is paid in advance. Actually I hope that I'll find some new aspects of the game to enjoy. -

Quote:This may be a valid point and something I've been wondering as well (haven't been able to get to test to get my own numbers, but I have been following this thread). What if the bug is something along the lines of, the drops that were supposed to go to you when you turn the team size up instead drop to some sort of virtual player that was used to "pad" the team.
Might not even be how they handle those new team sizes, but its something worth looking at.
Based in the report of the inf differences I am thinking the that the "Virtual" teammates are getting a slice of the inf and drops.
I guess the next test would be to compare a team of 8 Vs. a team of 1 set to 8 Vs. a team of 8 with 7 off map.
I am guessing test 1 and 2 will offer the same results, with test 3 being significantly higher. -
I have to agree with snow globe. Players that already have the badges that are being reduced shouldn't in any way be recognized or shown to have anything that players who didn't achieve the same badge requirements.
If they were to add new badges that were hard to get, well that wouldn't be fair at all would it?
After all they paid the same monthly fee they should get the same badges. -
I still hold the bug has to do with the number of real toons Vs. "virtual" toons as noted by Ignitros's post yesterday. I hope to be able to back this up with my own tests tonight.
I wonder if the drops are calculated at mob creation or at mob defeat. that may have something to do with the difference Ignitros saw. -
Quote:This is the test I was looking for.I wanted to drop in my 2 cents. I copied over my 2 fire/kin trollers and ran 20 total BM runs. I didn't keep track of anything except averages in 2 manners.
first 10 runs:
team of 2, 2 in mission set at +4 @ 8 man levels.
Averaged 13k per boss defeat, 5 recipes per run.
2nd 10 runs:
team of 8, only 2 in mission set at +4 @ 8 man levels.
Averaged 32k per boss defeat, 11 recipes per run.
Not sure what this means but it seems to me that you still benefit greatly by having fills.
I am betting this will be what others will see as well. I'll try to get toons copied over to test and try this out myself tomorrow.
My question with the team of 8 were the other 6 off map but on team the whole time, or just on team to paint the map? -
-
really? I think I have 5 and a 1/4 left to get, or only have 3-4 months left on these as they stand now.
-
-
well now I want to know what map you are running, as it may be then next anti-farming step follow timing the drek map, lowering the inf of the family map, if they are now lowering the drop rate on the demon map ... sigh ... tho I guess now you can just run radios set for 8 and do almost as well (and get a mission complete too)

Quote:I hope this isn't directed towards me, I have never left rep nor have I ever laced courage to admit I am wrong, in fact I did it earlier in this thread.I think someone is upset that they cannot muster the courage to publically admit they are wrong. Instead they are leaving negative rep to try to drown out the opposing view.
"Too many assumptions being stated as facts", yet when I post backing up my statements, I get "If you could dial your arrogance back to 10, that would be great. (it's on 11 now)"
You are right, lowering the goals and making the mini-game of badge hunting pointless ...err I mean more reasonable is the best thing for the game overall. -
Quote:I think you missed my point all together.Okay, congratulations, you did it the hard way. You're hardcore. We all bow in your direction and marvel at the size of your e-peen. Now give it a rest already.
Many of the badges were set up with unintentionally difficult goals. It was a mistake. Mistakes should be corrected. They shouldn't be enshrined because some people have suffered through them and feel that others must thus evermore endure the same level of suffering.
"Yay we all win!"
I won, I got the badge ... you win when they finally lower the requirements and you get the badge. We'll have the same badge we both win!
This has nothing to do with my e-peen whatever that is, I have to assume you mean my *****, which has never won a me a badge (in CoH at least)
Many of the goals were difficult I don't argue that, possibly even unintentionally so. Unachievablely so? not at all as several have achieved them. -
I am more bored than you are bored ....
... and den?
