Quote:As much as I hate to say it, downloading, technically speaking, is NOT theft. It is not moral to steal no matter if the the product your stealing has value to you personally or not. You previous statement was basicly," if i wouldnt have bought it anyway im not stealing. " There are plenty of things i wouldnt buy, but if i took without paying for is still stealing. I wouldnt buy a Ford Mustang, that doesnt them mean i can walk onto a lot and drive off with one since they wouldnt have gotten my money for it anyway.
And before arguing that a physical item isnt the same as a download, yes it is, in the manner that its still a product you can obtain use for that should have been purchased if you wanted to obtain ANY leve of use from it.

Siegel & Shuster and the rights to Superman are a special case because of how it was done initially. (Superman being sold to DC by outside parties, instead of someone who worked for DC creating the character) If memory serves the whole thing is only even possible because of a particular bill that was passed a while back that retroactively gave the heirs of S&S a chance to try to get the rights to Superman back.

Quote:Considering that per the contest rules, the winning entry will only be shown in the background of an episode as a literal character sketch, and will not be mentioned in the script of the episode in any way, I doubt it's worth -that- much collaboration.Has anyone thought of consulting NCsoft on this and collaborating? Would it not be good publicity for the game itself if one of the villians chosen was a currently playing villain in CoV? (and not one just created for this)
Just asking As I currently have a corrupter named Pyromaniac on Guardian with a great back story who would be awesome for this
Another thing to point out is that the linked page says to describe the character, but the fine print of the rules say to describe what the character can do.
Still, the first place prize (or equivalent) would be nice, so I sent in a submission. >.> -
Heh. Got my villain name and 50 word description (maaan that's short), now to just dust off teh pencil for a sketch and send it in.

Quote:Interesting viewpoint, but I find it highly unlikely that'll ever come to pass as a standard for digital media. Unless we miraculously evolve into a Trekian moneyless society real soon like.A while ago, we had the discussion of legality about using P2P programs like bittorrent. Some us view it as acceptable, others don't, and some others view only certain aspects of it acceptable. Based on that argument, I thought how long do you think needs to be waited before various media becomes acceptable for obtaining a free electronic copy of it. There is the obvious stipulation that there is no income to be made from the media and it is only for personal use.
My opinion on this issue is that once a movie is available on public television, then it becomes acceptable. Also games and software are acceptable after 5 or more years depending on if a) there is no equivalent product like the King Quest Series DVD being sold or b)the company is no longer making any money on the product. If I wanted to download a copy of Windows 95, then it wouldn't affect Microsoft sales at all.
While some artists, entertainers and the like, are grossly overpaid, a large majority are not. And they all still need teh moneez to pay the bills. There needs to be a balance between this whole "generation of entitlement" silliness and allowing creative people to make a living off their work. -
The art was pretty, but the writing itself just... sucked. And then DC gave Robinson a run on JLA grind that book down even further.

Quote:You're right, they haven't yet. But you -know- they will. From what I've read they are reprinting the Marvelman stories, but I don't think he's been brought into the main MU yet.
I really, really have to question the "Best of" stuff they reprinted. Marvelman was published for how long and those stories were the best?! Really?! Granted Marvel may actually want to bring in the Marvelman family as a couple of thuglike vigilantes, 'cause that's sure what they come off as to me in the reprint mini.
Quote:The isues that folks really, really want may never see reprint due to all the legal issues surrounding the books.Quote:Really? I thought Marvel got all the rights to everything for the character and that it was a done deal? ...
To say the whole Marvelman/Miracleman thing is extremely complicated is a massive understatement. Wiki helps to give a decent idea of the extent of the mess of the rights. -

Quote:Or the balls to stick to a possibly game-changing publicity stunt like this. Shake things up and then keep it that way. There aren't enough hardcore fans of the Fantastic Four to cater to revert back to the "iconic" lineup in stereotypical American comic book fashion anyway.Heh. I've said in the past that I've felt that Marvel needed a "Crisis On Infinite Earths" or something similar.
'Sides, the only time anyone else cares about the FF is when they have a major storyline with Doom, or some major reboot like this happens. -
Heh. You again. Welcome back.
We're still here, sorta. -
Did I mention she has already has a boyfriend?

Quote:'Aye, that would be it.

Well this appears to be over before -anything- even happened. Sent her a message about the artwork for the comic. Haven't heard back, though I do have my guesses as to why. *shrug*

Strange to me, anyway. Now I'm not -that- socially inept, but I just have it stuck in my head that attractive women are never interested in -me-, ever. Anyway, back to the story.
So last Thursday a cute girl and her friend walk in to the comic book shop I've been working at. (And no, that wasn't the strange thing. ) The owner was also in the store at the time, and between he and I, we try to get the smalltalk going, just like we do with every customer. Turns out both girls are pretty geeky, and they stick around for like an hour, chatting with us about random geeky stuff.
The conversation eventually shifts to cute girl going to college for art, and I think to myself, "Self, you need an artist for your webcomic! Say something!" I do, and the cute girl gets all starry eyed at the idea. So while the owner is his giggling his *** off (he knows I'm single) I grab a piece of paper to write down the web address for my webcomic. I figure I'll show her where to go, tell her to comment on the website if she's interested in doing the art, and leave it at that.
Cute girl, on the other hand, wants my full name, cell number, gives me her full name and number, and tells me to friend her on facebook. Which completely took me by surprise.
Is this sort of thing normal in public business? I was stuck in an office job for the better part of the last decade and didn't really talk to many people in person, so I'm reeeaally out of the loop on this stuff. -
Quote:Nor I. Especially considering some of the RP groups I -have- seen in this game. *shrug*With all of the numerous influenced SGs and characters out there... I don't quite understand the "epic fail" comment...
Started watching the show from the beginning on netflix recently. I like the setting and mythos of it.
Quote:I'm only casually familiar with the background of that world and the powers and such, and I'd say, of all the things I've seen borrowed in the game and expanded upon to work into something in this game, I could totally see that being a good choice...
Quote:Unfortunately, I have no actually helpful things to offer you, Agonus, as I have no idea if there are any out there or anything.
I'm sure there are some Kinetic Melee air benders out there though, hehe.
Best of luck! (Even if it is just to satiate some curiosity... and now I am curious as well) -
Any Avatar: The Last Airbender themed/homaging/influenced RP heavy groups out there? (And by the way, I haven't finished Season 3 yet.)

In terms of taking advantage of what Elec Melee has to offer, other than Shield Defense, between a Scrapper and Tank what's the best AT and defensive set to use with it for PVE?
I was leaning towards a Tank, but I had no idea what to pair it with. I initially asked this in the Tank forum and got 4 different answers, so nothing conclusive came of that. Scrappers are the other option. Brutes are out as I have enough, and Stalkers don't fit the concept. -
Didn't expect the first 4 responses to be 4 different answers. Leaning towards Elec Armor, might even go Scrapper for SR.

I'm not super familiar with 80's comics, especially DC stuff from the time. BUT, if it's anything like how Marvel was, the books will probably be bogged down with narrative text until mid 90's when art took some control of the story back from the writing. (Ymmv on that, of course. It was arguabley due to the influence of the Image founders on the rest of the business.)
Another thing to consider is that word count will vary depending on the writer. Books were definitely wordier the farther back you go, but some writers are worse about it than others. -
Why does the Flash look like a 10 year old with a goatee?
-
Starting a new alt, but I'm not sure of the way to go.
I was leaning towards Inv/Elec mostly for concept, but I don't see much of anything about that combo on the forums. Are the two sets counterproductive somewhere along the lines?
The other option I was thinking of was Inv/Dark, which I know synergizes well, but lacks AoE. -
I might have some of the details off, but according to a friend of mine, he gave a drive on his laptop that was connected to Pro-Tools a cutesy 15 letter name. Then Pro-Tools stopped working. He spent hours trying to figure out why Pro-Tools wouldn't work. Then he claims he found the answer; Pro-Tools can only handle drive names of 14 letters or less.

My main group wants to shift to Rogue Trader and it's spinoffs.
I do like the character concept I came up with (corrupt priest trying to bring down the Ecclesiarchy from the inside) but I'm still not sure this is a good thing. The GM and another player that spearheaded the movement are GW lorehounds, and I'm dreading sessions devolving into arguments over minutia like which Space Marine chapter found guy was born where. -
I doubt anyone is willing to throw enough money at Gellar to get her to change her mind about returning to -anything- Buffy related.
And as far as Boreanaz, this is supposed to be his reaction to the news of the reboot. (The other guy in the pic is the creator of the Bones show.)
