The camera path tool I made will generate a path for any entity, not just the camera...
Here's an example input:
// CamSweep input file
// camera path:
BEZIER
-264.603943 224.019974 -349.036316
-8.034166 73.710609 -90.253113
165.077911 30.567497 -148.872574
165.260742 40.529469 -246.240875
END
// target path:
POV
END
// entity name
2530
// Time interval (use zero for always output time as zero)
33
// number of intervals to output
450
That will generate a bezier curved path for entity 2530, with that entitiy "pointing" along the path as it goes - just like you'd want for a car, or a hero.
Again, it's all text-based with no nice UI, but it does work - see the fix-Sunblaze.txt example. in the examples folder.
Here's the dropbox link:

I've toyed with the idea of generating a "fly/leap" script to do the mass-exodus, but my PC has been down, so I've been dealing with that (silly hardware problems...) -
Quote:I believe it's f2 to detach the camera, and p to pause playback.How do you detach the camera in the new beta version?
Also, is sound still broken in demo playback?
Finally, was there ever an option to have UI overlay in demo playback?
Yep. Sound hasn't worked for quite some time now. The demo playback code doesn't trigger the sounds to play. Black Pebble has said that may have been intentional (he was told it was "a feature")
No, the demo playback code has never included the UI. -
I"d be more than happy to help with a Magisterium run, but being on the west coast, 5:30pm my time is before I can get off work and back home.
-
In addition, if you type /demorecord filename then /demostop the game will make a text file that captures your character and the zone it's in at the time. (if you play for a while between the two, it will record everything that happens other than sounds) Zoning will do a /demostop.
Later on, you can play back the demo, pause it, and "detach" the camera from your character. You can even do this after the servers shut down, if you save your game client
Not the same as being able to play, but at least you can have a souvenir...'
Here's a thread on it - it's about saving bases, but the same things work anywhere in the game;
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=297561 -
Thanks for all the tireless work you've been doing, and for keeping things sane (well, as sane as they ever get around here) in an insane situation.
Please do keep us informed as to your further adventures via Twitter, or Titan, or Zwill-Signal. Anyplace you thought worthy to be a part of is someplace I'd like to take a look at. -
Finger crossed. Not to be counting unhatched-chickens (who may not even be eggs), but wouldn't it be a kick if issue 24:Resurgence really was?
And for those who think trying to save CoH is tilting at windmills (and that doing so isn't worthwhile);

Quote:The images on the protest signs are almost certainly a simple texture, and anything that lets you override a texture in the game would work for them, assuming you can identify the texture in question.Neat!
A bit off topic..there was a thread recently with a person making custom billboards for the game. Would the same be possible with the emote Signs? So you could have 200 people in AP, all with NC Suck posters?
And you can certainly use a demorecord to make a crowd of heroes all doing the protest emotes.
As for 200, well, Leandro did 3,000 for the AP video... -
Quote:And you're not aloneI think I'm completely hidden behind Pep Rally. (Claire-Bear) All you can see are her ears.
Stuff for the next version;
(hopefully get more people's demofiles)
get some of the fliers in the air where they belong (Synch included)
make sure nobody is hidden
put people in other than the default pose (hero/villain stances, etc..)
put people near each other who've requested it
I mostly popped this up because I wanted a post to recruit people who I didn't get or couldn't be there, and to see if there was any opinion on the location - For all I knew, people were emotionally attached to the Rikti War Zone
Since the script rearranges everyone every time I run it, I can't do the pose/position twiddling until after I have everybody I'm going to get - or almost everyone anyway.
I'll probably do the Mk. I next weekend, and once that's up and I don't get pitchforks and torches for it, I'll probably do a slow closeup pan along the crowd as a video, so we're all big enough to see... -
I don't think I've done a complete set of the Shard TFs since I did them on Synchrotron <old man voice>You kids! Back in my day the trams didn't go to Founders's Falls, and we didn't have no fancy flight packs, or bases, or team teleporterers, or newfangled Ourobouros portals... Get off my lawn!</old man voice>
Anyway, I'm in. You have your pick of archetypes, other than Arachnos Soldier. -
Quote:Bother. Well, if anyone did a demorecord in RWZ2, or knows they're missing and can send me a link to a file with their hero/villain, I can add them. I asked people to do it in chat, but I'm not sure anyone botheredAwesome. Just FYI though in case you were unaware, there's a bunch of people from the RWZ 2 photo shoot that are missing.
In 20-20 hindsight, I should have logged in my 2nd account into RWZ2... -
So, I'd been doing this by hand, but Leandro has made it oh-so-much easier.
Here's the initial version of 93 of us in Portal Corp:
I didn't get to RWZ3 quickly, so I'm pretty sure i missed many from there. If Steel (or anyone) did a demorecord, and could send me a link, that would be handy.
If you couldn't make the original, and can do a demorecord of your character and send me the link to the file, I can add it.
If y'all have a preference for the location, feel free to chime in. I'll go through the original and try to ID those who were flying, and put them in the air for the final shot.
Thanks again for all the fun over all the years, everybody.
PS: It puts people in a random spot every time I run the script, but if there's anyone you really ought to be adjacent to, I can hack it after it gets generated. I'll also do my level best to not hide short folks behind large folks in the final shot

"It's nine o'clock on a Saturday, the regular crowd shuffles in..."
Well, 9am where I am, and I can be there on Saturday the 22nd. Probably not on Thursday, however. -
If you look at the following thread;
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=296033
There's info on how to extract the 3-D model of your character from the game, and some folk's efforts at making a printable model from there... -
When they made Stamina inherent, there was some debate on the forums as to if that increased or reduced the variety of builds available. So I decided to see
For a "standard" archetype, with a primary, a secondary, up to four pool powers and an epic pool available, the total number of unique builds at level 49 (the last level you get a power - just counting powers here, not slotting options) was 1,193,041,661,448. So there are just over a trillion ways to build a fire/fire blaster before slotting is taken into account.
Multiply that by the number of archetypes, the number of primary/secondary combinations, and then start in on the incarnate powers. We had not even begun to build all the possible characters. We needed (need? Hey, I can hope...) more slots...
Oh - no, adding Stamina did not reduce the variety of builds available. The level at which you have the maximum possible build diversity turns out to be 45 at about 1.56 trillion. -
Most pc video drivers have the option to rotate the screen 90 degrees, which ought to give you a "taller" screen to render with...

Other options for folks with macs who want to run this;
BootCamp - you can make a partition on your current drive, and install windows on it.
The two virual host software packages have trial versions available. They won't be fast, but they don't need to be for this.
VMWare Fusion http://www.vmware.com/go/tryfusion
Parallels: http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/?icid=2135
All of these solutions will require a copy of Windows, and significant free disk space which may be less-than-ideal. But may be better than nothing.
Another thought is to investigate renting a laptop for a weekend and do it that way. -
I'll be there, barring real-life meteor attacks :/ If you can, do a demorecord of the pic as well as a screenshot. I (ought) to be able to merge them all into one scene. I can demorecord the zone I'll be in, but not any others.
-
Quote:I was there, and it was, indeed, a blast. If I'm not misremembering, I was playing Daedalus. I'm pretty sure I still have the character sheet. I feel for Matt for having to deal with all of us, though.I have been trying and trying to remember who the other players were at the HeroCon 2008 D&D Charity Game, other than Bloodspeaker and me. And I still have my Sister Solaris character sheet!
Then there was this year's M&G, where I got to play D&D as a Space Stallion, where we inadvertently duplicated the antics of the developers who playtested the module.
(if you've not seen Space Stallions; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Otaq2tmNMM )
It's been all too much fun over the years - but we'll always have the fond memories - and who knows, if the start align perfectly maybe it can be saved in some form. Having that happen would make my year, that's certain. -
I can't imagine why it took me so long to figure it out.
I know why City of Heroes was terminated so abruptly.
Issue 24 was about to go live, and that was going to fix blasters.
Clearly, the world had to end first...
PS: Apologies for anyone who can't jest about this yet, humor helps me deal. -
Quote:Yeppers, it was me. As for live-demos, I was thinking I might be able to mangle a virtual disk file that just fed a constant stream of data... It depends a lot on if it loads the entirety of the demo file, or just reads it in as it goes of course.Ah, so you're the person she got to do that. She asked me about it once a long time ago, but I didn't have time to look at it then. By the time I did, I think she said someone else had figured out something for her.
Somewhere, and I really don't know where, I have a python script that does something similar: it will generate camera paths for circular, hyperbolic, and bezier curves based on control points. It might be faster to rewrite it than look for it at this point honestly.
The Titan hackers might be able to do one better one day. They know enough, I believe, in theory to be able to adjust the memory that the demorecords are stored in on the fly, and with that be able to alter the camera positions on the fly.
Editing camera positions on the fly for a demorecord that's being played is, in effect, a free form navigation system without the need for a server. That's currently beyond my knowledge base and time availability, but it might be within theirs.
But they are currently quite busy with another more critical project at the moment.
And yes, they're busy with more critical things and I wish them the best of luck - I fear they're going to need it
Who knows, it appears I'm going to have substantial amounts of leisure time available next year, and I'm going to have to do something with it... -
Quote:It appears that the .obj files have the polygon and UV information, and something called a .mtl (materials and textures library) file is intended to have the textures. Beyond that, I have not (yet) gone.I'm certain that's the reason: what I haven't investigated is how to put them there correctly.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavefront_.obj_file -
I cobbled this together for Samuraiko, who wanted to be able to do camera spins around something, and I went overboard
Since demos are soon going to be the only way we can enjoy the visuals of CoH, I thought I'd share it more broadly.
It's a command-line windows tool to generate POS and PYR commands for entities in demo files.
Here's an example input:
// CamSweep input file
// camera path:
BEZIER
-264.603943 224.019974 -349.036316
-8.034166 73.710609 -90.253113
165.077911 30.567497 -148.872574
165.260742 40.529469 -246.240875
END
// target path: (x z y, 32 entries maximum)
POINT
128 18.5 -215.5
END
// entity name
CAM
// Time interval (use zero for always output time as zero)
33
// number of intervals to output
450
It will generate a Bezier curve path using the four control points specified, and move the camera along it pointing at the point specified as it moves along. It will generate 450 entries, 33 ms apart.
You can specify a path for the camera, the thing-the-camera-looks-at, or both. You can use points, linear interpolations, Catmul-Rom splines, Bezier Curves, Orbits, Spirals, Follows, etc. It's all in the readme.
No warranty expressed or implied. Don't specify an output file that you don't want to overwrite
Here's the dropbox link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/viu5dpi9si...mSweepV0.5.zip
You may well need the debug C runtime (MSVCR100d.dll) from microsoft. Apologies for the rough state, but I hadn't really intended it for general release. -
Quote:I've been grabbing demorecords of the zones. The /loc locations on, say, ParagonWiki map to the camera positions you would want to use, so even once the client isn't live, it should be fairly easy to navigate around them.DEMORECORD, DEMORECORD, DEMORECORD. Its one of the best ways we have to retain some memories of the game if and when it ends, and it was always one of our fairly unique features.
Gah. So going to miss this. Muttergrumblecurse.
I wonder how hard it would be to reverse-engineer the server protocols enough to "log in" a character and just fly around a zone? -
More's the pity, but I'm reasonably sure you can't play back demorecord files without the servers - at least, you didn't use to be able to. You could verify that by disconnecting your computer from the network and trying to play a demorecord.
Grab a copy of Fraps and record anything you want to actual video. Bad enough to be losing the game, but to think you'd saved something you hadn't would be worse.
