Plan B to rescue characters if Plan A fails

Well plan A, of course, is that COX continues but if we can't persuade NCSoft to either let it continue, or let it pass into anothers hand (i.e. Paragon Studios go solo) then there may be one option.

I don't know if this breaks the rules of conduct, but as the game is likely to be shut down I don't think it makes any difference any more.

Has anyone tried Hypr3D ( http://www.hypr3d.com/ ) to get a 3D print of their character? It might be a bit rough around the edges, and I don't know how successful it might be, but for the sake of taking lots of screenshots and trying to build a 3D model just so you have a nice memory sitting on the shelf this might be worth it.

Thoughts?

There's already a tool from Titan Network called Sentinel + Character Extractor, that can save a copy of your character's build, vault, enhancements, powers, badges and a few things more, in an .xml file.

If you look at the following thread;

There's info on how to extract the 3-D model of your character from the game, and some folk's efforts at making a printable model from there...

The multiple photos to 3D model process yields a more desirable result. You get a fully textured model as the end product and there isn't a need for manual tweaking.

I have been getting good results using 3D software object modeler from these people http://www.3dsom.com/. They have a 2 week free trial that will allow you to export the models.

After the trial is over, will the program still allow you to access your character, or would you have to purchase the software?

NCSOFT may take away our servers and beloved dev team, but they can't break our spirit and community. with all your power, NCSOFT, your victory will be bitter-sweet. I, personally will be there to laugh at you when you face-plant into the ground.

If you go through the registration process for the pro trial you can export your models. It outputs everything from 3ds to vrml.

Its a nice mechanical process. If you don't have it you will want to use it with a utility like hypersnap so you can get the needed screenshots easily.

Strata Foto also works for this. I had it as part of the Strata 3D suite. The best spot I found to take the screenshots was the character creator but you lose the top and bottom view.

It needs EXIF data from a camera... Can't get it to accept screenshots.

Yeah, very disappointed that it needs the EXIF data from the camera.
