Quote:The same thing still happens in Talos from time to time, where the game sends you out to the small islands in the north that are infested with CoT and such. Usually gets me to abandon the mission and try for a better location.my favorite one of all time was playing CoV early on, early enough that I hadn't just started skipping Nerva entirely. Got that "bust up the nightclub" mission, and the game sent me AAAAAAAAAALL the way out into those islands at the back end of nowhere, through the jungle to a cave mouth hidden underground behind a waterfall.
"Pretty damn exclusive nightclub!" my pal commented. -
Quote:Many are the times where (with radio missions), I've been sent to the same warehouse door two times in a row, with slightly different layout and even different enemy group, though. That breaks immersion as well, when I've cleaned the place up just a minute earlier. In design terms those mission doors are just the same as, say, a warehouse door in King's Row. They are where they are to impose some sort of temporal spacing in your gameplay. But whereas my brain goes "oh yeah, sure, this gang of Skulls is in this warehouse but the boss is over in *that* warehouse" and thinks jogging to a different location to clean out basically the same warehouse makes perfect sense.

Quote:How did you get to pick a power at level 21?Was thisclose to 21 after calling in the mission, so I wiped a couple of likely looking spawns on the street & headed to the trainer.
Considering my options, I went with Will Domination.
I hate sleep powers, but as I'm essentially a full-time soloist it will come in handy. And it apparently does okay damage, so.... -
Yeah, she fooled me too. Up until that point, I was thinking "she's really not cut out to be a villain". I saw her mostly as comic relief in the same vein as Flambeaux until I learned of her true nature.

Did you get around to Dr. Graves' final arc yet? Looking forward to your report on that one...
-
Quote:Exactly...
Post #194 in that thread:
Quote:Just another reminder that this will be happening. When we have a better idea of when, we'll let you know. -
I'm going with "something else". They put a patch on training room recently to fix a problem with the panther stealth power...
Quote:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=290043Panther Stealth Power
Fixed an issue where changing your active build while the Panther Travel power is active would cause a crash which could result in your character becoming inaccessible.
Edit: Besides, they haven't told us what day they are cycling out the Celestial costume set and they said they'd let us know when they had an idea when exactly it would happen... -
You should do Graves' third arc first though, now that you've gotten this far...
-
Don't forget Lt. Harris (third contact in the intro series) if you haven't done his arc yet. His level range is 5-7, while you have until level 9 to finish Dr. Graves' first arc.

Quote:*nods*It is kinda crazy the level of angst and crying in this thread over a free item give away pilot program. People are acting like they did something wrong by introducing this program.
What is wrong with some of you people? Seriously....
If I get something of no real use to me I'll just shrug it off and hope for something better next time since I it was free anyway. But some people will find a reason to complain no matter what...
(hope you didn't think I was complaining in the post you qouted - I was just pointing out an example) -
Quote:Even so, you would still have people complaining, no matter what the reward. In the above example, people who don't use AE (and freebies and premium players with no access to AE) would find little use for itBut here's a big pro to pre-randomizing the freebie (or heck, even pre-choosing it, which is what I thought was going to be happening): Community discussion. Let's say for instance the Friday Freebie is a free Architect Arc Slot (not that I'm nudging towards anything, or anything ). You suddenly get a significant majority of the playerbase potentially talking all at once about the Architect, new players asking how to make use of the free slot they just got, etc.
I'd consider that far more impactful than the inevitable gnashing of teeth as some players get rewards that are far more useful to them than others'. -
In the latter case, you might want to enable the UI to show in the screenshot then (or it won't show you much information). The command for that is /screenshotui 1. /screenshotui 0 turns off the interface showing in the screenshot again.

Quote:The Rikti bombs are actually called UXBs...IED, in case you were serious, though technically thats a misnomer.
IED is "improvised explosive device"-- nothing improvised about their bombs. These are more correctly termed "duds."

Quote:These days you can also go through Dark Astoria if you are high level. And soon there will be the tunnel network. One that a lot of people don't seem to realize: Paragon City<->Rogue Isles travel is much easier using the Rikti Warzone Vanguard Base portals (Atlas Park, Founders Falls, Peregrine Island; Cap au Diable, St. Martial, Grandville) and the Midnight Club (Steel Canyon, Croatoa, Founders Falls; Cap au Diable) than the Independence Port<->Sharkhead Island submarine. Pocket D also works as a transfer zone but connects to less useful places Hero side.

Quote:Starting fresh might be a good idea anyway, so you don't outlevel the introduction arcs in the middle of them. Just like hero-side, there's a chain of three contacts (with a choice of who the second contact will be), each with their own arc. Following that, there's Dr. Graves, the villain side equivalent to Twinshot.I didn't have time to run any of the new mishs with her, and will probably be re-rolling her in light of the addition of more thematically appropriate powerset choices (she was Stone Melee because I created her before proliferation, and it was the closest I could get to a giant barbarian weapon). She may be the character that inspires me to check out one of the new powersets, specifically Titan Weapons.

"On July 15th, 2003, I started working at Paragon Studios."
Really? At Paragon Studios back in 2003? I thought the game started at Cryptic...
Also: "(For those interested, this server was Triumph, the last server added until Exalted)"
What of the four EU servers added in 2005? Did Triumph not come until after those? -
Source of that? Since the packs also contain costume pieces, taking them "out of print" would be a bad move, IMO. Also, it's not like it costs Paragon Studios anything to keep around, since there's no printing costs and such for them. In that other game I played, there were 8 different sets of cards available by the end, and you could still buy packs from all of them.
-
I'm guessing they are considered rare because the ratio of getting them is lower. In another game I used to play (no longer around as of over 4 months ago) there was a digital trading card game that you could buy "booster packs" for. Each set of cards was divided into an equal amount of common, uncommon and rare cards, and each booster pack contained (barring any of the cards being replaced by a foil or "loot card) 11 common cards, 3 uncommon and one rare. So while you *knew* that you'd get a rare card, they were considered rare by having lower ratio than the rest..

Grym didn't do much better when I ran that mission. Did the whole series of arcs twice, on new characters, and got "Argh! I am sorry, [name]. I cannot continue. You must press on." both times. Didn't bother me much though - more enemies for me to fight. I'm not a big fan of NPC allies "stealing" my kills, even if I get xp for it. And in some cases, having NPCs around fighting reduces the xp I get - I like it even less then...

Quote:I got the badge for being a 6-year veteran (or 72 months, which was the old requirement for "Distinguished") around a month before Freedom launched. Still only had enough tokens at the VIP head start to fill up tier 8 half-way...I think GG's math is off, unfortunately.
The problem was the whole conversion over into the new system.
I think (I may be remembering incorrectly) it takes about 3 years under the new system...
However, the conversion had people of three to four years still well outside of Tier 9.
I understand the hows and whys (they didn't want longer vets having far too many tokens right out out of the gate), but it feels like it was somewhat of a lousy position to experience the conversion from.
*in before the "it's better than waiting 7+ years as it would have been in the old system" reply*
