  1. I got something like... 7pm Australia time on Dec 1st, when I tried to do the conversion a few days ago. How far off was I? 1pm for me is 9pm EST.
  2. Actually, Cyber, I do believe that if the file is tampered with that it will basically become trash and won't re-import at all. At least that is what I have heard concerning it.
  3. You know what today was?

My Little Rangle: Plotting is Magic.

I still want to know what Rangle's cutie mark is... *g*

The 3D traversal of anything but flight is nausea-inducing. Tried to do a version of my main with SS in there and the controls for running on the walls and ceiling are so bad that I had to shut the game down.

I'd go up a wall, hit a certain point and the game would turn me around. It ruined immersion because I was fighting the interface.

The chat system in DCUO is a friggin joke.

The fact that your two main powers start off bound to your mouse? Stupid with a capital "What The Hell Were You Thinking?"

The fact that it's ridiculously easy to wander into areas where stuff outlevels you by 20+ WITHOUT WARNING. That combined with the "hunt, hunt, hunt, hunt, instance" way the game's handled...

And messing around in the interface for the game, at all, COMPLETELY negates all movement in the game. So you have to stop dead just to talk with someone. Or check your inventory. Or look at your main map.

CO isn't as visually gorgeous, the layout is a study in obfuscation of utility, and you still have to spam an energy builder attack. But at least it handles in a predictable manner.

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being "just like CoH", CO is a 7-7.5.
    DCUO is a 2.

I've said it before. Both these other games have gone for "technical superiority", and completely ignored the things in CoH that ACTUALLY made the game work.
I agree with virtually all of this. DCUO... it looks beautiful, but good lord is most of that game a joke, especially trying to team and chat.

I can't get into CO, no matter how much I try and try. If I had to pick one that "sucks less" I would have to go with CO, but not by much. I went back to STO.

    On a scale of 1 - 10:

    DCUO - 2.5
    CO - 3.5

    Neither worth my time, personally.
  5. I think that is 7am my time, which may be doable for me. 12:15am now in Aussieland. We will see if I can make it for a bit!
  6. STO is like CO in the way of CS, basically if you are not a "Gold Player" then you are not entitled to GM support, it even states as much on both websites. If you want GM support you have to be forking out a monthly fee or have a lifetime sub.

There are also numerous bugs in STO that have been there since beta, but all in all... it isn't a bad game, though there isn't much of a challenge to it. You can hit 50 in less than a week without even trying, and then all there is to do end-game is grind out daily missions and elite STF's.
  7. I, too, have given up. Seriously... less than 3 weeks until the closure, NC won't sell for under 80million... If people *still* think that this game will somehow be magically saved in 20 days... I actually feel sorry for you. I had hope in the beginning; I had hope through September. In October I was like...ok, this isn't happening and I moved on to another MMO.

The people of Titan may be able to come up with a way to make a single-server thing in the distant future, but how many people would play something like that and stay? I wouldn't.

This game had its run, just let it go. It isn't going to be saved.

Same. The music was one of the things that set me off. I've had that music going around in my head for quite a while now...before I even saw this. And yes... I cried during the end of B5, too.
  9. Include me in with the group that managed to get something in their eye while watching this video.

Hubby and I both broke down, especially at the end. Haven't played in 3 weeks...thought I was "over" the game that I had been playing for 7 years, that I was "over it" and moving on. Guess I'm really not. The hurt suddenly feels as fresh as it did the day the announcement was made.

Which is why I think so many are unable to play it or even attempt to get any enjoyment out of it: because it just doesn't compare. Nothing is going to even come close to City of, not for the majority here. Nothing probably will. But such attitudes are likely killing your ability to find fun in any other MMO because of it, and that is a real shame.
  11. I think most people are going to be looking at CO and coming out disappointed solely because it isn't even remotely like CoH. I can take or leave CO, it makes me no difference, but I do like a number of things within the game that I'm surprised never were in CoH at any point in time.

The game can be likeable; it just needs to stop being compared to CoH because it will never *be* CoH, you know? I think most of us are so used to one thing now that it feels nigh-impossible to like or find the good in virtually any other MMO. At least that is how I'm seeing it.

The only real bits that tick me off are:

The forced teaming. Someone can be plonked right on your team out of the blue for no real reason other than the game thought it was a good idea. Thankfully there is an option to turn this off!

Cross game chatting. Half the time in the CoX channel I don't know whether or not to reply to someone because I don't know if they are playing STO or CO.

The C-store. For those that think the Paragon Market was bad... don't even think about the C-Store. My God! 5 dollars for a single costume piece. I don't mean a pack, I mean a piece. It's just as bad in STO where some of the ships cost between 25 - 50 dollars to play. Yes, real cash.

I started having a bit of fun in the game once I stopped comparing it to CoH, because nothing will ever be that game or up to the standards that most of us have created based on it. The costume creator even does some things better than CoH...I know that'll tick some people off, but it's true. I am in love with the Jackal head, the way that you can make certain costume bits glow is really nice, too.

It's better than DCUO...which I have dabbled in as well. No mouse cursor available in that game, and I am a "clicker" by nature. I don't like having to mess with what feels like 20 keys just to control my toon. The 3 colors for your costume and that's it...that also sucks. BUt I admit that climbing on walls and such like a spider is pretty damn nifty.

Yeah, it is. Your winking emoticons and 24/7 presence on the forums won't change anything, GG.

It's over. Accept it and move on.

And before anyone jumps on me like a school of rabid pirranas, let me just say that for the first week and a half after the announcement all I could do was cry. I went through basically all of the stages of grief since that accounement came to pass, I am now at acceptance.

NC doesn't want to sell to us; accept it. Can't accept it? Oh well. I'm no longer wasting my energy on something that isn't going to be magically saved. What happened with this game sucks rocks, but really... there isn't much you can do to make NC change their mind. If they don't want to sell to us then they won't. If they want a few million then that is what we'll have to pay.

Just... there is too much false hope flying around at this stage. Just let it go. Appreciate what we've had for 8 years. OKay...I'm done. Feel free to bash away.
  13. Saw it coming. They wouldn't sell to us because we can't afford to plunk down a few million bucks.

Still... no one can say that we haven't tried or made a damn good effort.

It just wasn't meant to be. *sighs*
  14. Well...teaming is okay to a point. Make sure you take the same missions at the same time, because only the one with the mission with get the finishing bonuses.
  15. See...that's what I thought. Here's what memory alpha has to say: It is not clear if Lursa's child had been born, and if so, whether he traveled with his mother and perished with her. So I can see how it would be a fuzzy area, it's still a wee bit confusing though.

Yeah, but a comic isn't canon, but I guess many people argue that as much as the new movie not being so (canon), either.

Sela didn't really have a grand group of followers in Unificaton from what I remember, and according to the game lore she was exiled from the homeworld. She wouldn't be accepted as leader, it's a complete load of bunk in my opinion.

Donatra was the commander in Nemesis, and was the Empress of Romulus for a time (novel lore that was touched upon in game briefly.) They use more book lore than anything else for STO, and it can make things very confusing especially if one doesn't closely follow the books. I've read like... 2 ST books in the last decade, so I am not well-versed on book lore and what not. And then game lore screwed with Tomalak, one of my favorite Romulans.

Eh...I just don't like a lot of what the game did.

But I will say that it's somewhat easy to get the hang of. If I can do it than anyone probably can. I was flying my ship like a pro in about a week, and I am far from what could be considered a hard core gamer.

    ...

I've been a Trekkie since like...age 8, and you know as many times as I've seen Nemesis...

That subplot went over my head... I never connected it the way that you just said. I think my brain is going in my old age of 33! lol

In all honesty it's mainly the Romulan lore that is driving me the most nuts.

I used to not like it so much either, but now I am finally facing the facts. This game is not going to be magically saved by an online petition. Yes, many people are trying to do great things to save the game and I have gladly pledged to donate spare cash if I can, but people need to start facing facts.

NC doesn't want to sell this game. They originally bought the partial rights and IP for how many million again? 4 or 5? The playerbase could have done maybe 100 - 200k, I really think that could have happened over time. But millions? No way. And that would be if NC even wanted to sell or was taking offers. Last I heard they were not. I'd love for someone to tell me that such a thing has changed.

The game is gone. That's it. While the game may eventually be rebooted or what have you, I doubt very much that it's going to be anything that we are used to.

Ignore my forum reg date, I have actually been here 7 years...well..veeeeeeery close to. I don't care what people think of me or what I have to say. If people want to hold onto the hope that this game will be magically saved in 2 months, then that is their right. I guess I've stopped wasting my energy worry about it all. It is what it is. If people want to jump on me then that is their choice, I can't control how other people behave.

But really...if people think that 20k sigs on an internet petition is going to do anything...they are sorely mistaken. It won't happen. Sucks to say, but it's the bitter truth. And this is all coming from someone who initially was jumping up and down happily when the petition first cracked 10k sigs in like 1.5 days. Just facing reality is all...as harsh as it is.

And yeah, Data's alive because of the whole B4 subplot in Nemesis, but he and the Enterprise-E are missing (I think because they don't have Brent Spiner's permission to use his likeness). The Duras sisters are still dead, actually, but the son one of them had managed to get it on with someone and keep the house going. But those aren't even the worst things they've done. I'd give that dishonor to Worf's decision to completely cut his ties with the Federation. That was just stupid.
Yup. Wasn't one of the Duras sisters pregnant at the time of the explosion in Generations though? Forgive my Trekkie ignorance, I haven't seen Generations in forever and my memory is fuzzy these days.

And B4 isn't Data. They specifically (the game) make it out to be the original, like the ending of Nemeis never actually happened.

And the whole Romulan thing already had me melting down more than once. Sela is the Empress and lead of the Romulan Empire now. Um... *breaks down in a fit of laughter* Really, Cryptic? Even after the homeworld was destroyed (I still don't acknowledge that reboot as canon... sue me...) do you really think the survivors are going to allow a half-breed to run the Empire and rebuild it? Especially one that had already been exiled (according to game lore she was) and told never to return? Not likely at all. No Romulan is going to put any half-breed or exiled-one into a position of power. I'm aware that she just jumped in after the Praetor went missing and claimed the Empress seat as her own, but still... Blondie would have been assassinated quick smart I think. And let's not even go into the fact that they decided to borgify Donatra... Still not over that one. >.>

But yeah...if you are a stickler for canon then you will want to stay very far away from this game. It'll drive you bonkers.
  19. While 20,000 signatrues is awesome, it isn't exactly mind blowing. With these sorts of things you generally need numbers upwards of 100,000+ to even begin making any sort of difference. We sadly won't reach the numbers needed to really make a difference with an online petition. I'll be surprised if we hit 25k by the time the servers shut down. And I mean legitimate sigantures, not one person signing hundreds of times, which people might even already be doing.
  20. Damn the fact that I moved overseas a year and a half ago! My apartment complex was 3 minutes away from where you were all meeting! >.>
  21. I was orignally in STO during beta and have been with a fleet since then, so I'm basically committed where I'm at. I did join the CoX channel though.

As for the game... meh. If you have to have everything canon... don't play it. It'll make you spit nails. The flawed canon is one reason why I originally stopped playing, the other was the fact that the game was just severely underwhelming for me. Playable Romulans would likely keep me interested, IF they were done right. The in-game lore for Romulans is so incredibly ridiculous that it's stupid. Major turn off for me. The game is set after the 09 reboot BS, and you have Data alive (didn't he like...explode in Nemesis?) the Duras sisters are alive and one has a child... (um...didn't they like...explode in Generations?) There are just lots of inconsistancies that really make no sense.

The C store. Oh. My. God. Can you get ANY more expensive? 50 bucks real cash for some of the ships. The store is insane, price-wise. There are many missions that are also horrendously bugged and have been since beta. GM's also seem to be non-existent. Tickets can remain open for months before you get a response. I've had a ticket open for almost a year with no response yet. If you're stuck or anything? drop the mission and restart, you won't get a GM response for days to weeks to months. It may be different if you pay for a sub, but from what I have read on the forums and experienced...not bloody likely.

It's an O.K game, but it's nothing even remotely mind blowing. It is also not team friendly. If you ask most people to team they treat you like you're stupid for asking. Also...don't get too far away from your squad leader and certainly don't load into the mission faster than them, it sets everything wonky. When I first got back into the game (a few weeks ago) I teamed with my husband and a friend, one of whom was a lvl 49. They loaded into the mission faster than me, by about a minute. (You have to patch maps and DL some files to come before you can even zone in...) I load in and suddenly we're all at my lvl - 10 - while facing lvl 49 enemy ships. We didn't last long.

The PvE events can be fun, but when you play them... KNOW what you're doing or you'll be verbally lashed and abused into the next year. All of my experiences with those events are as follows: Die even once; miss one objective at all and you will generally see the following:

EFFING NOOB!!! Go EFFING DIE STUPID NOOB. USELSS POS. GDAMN WORTHLESS EFFING NOOB.... And that is the tamer stuff. I almost quit again that day. STO seems to harbor either very immature people or those with a severe superiority complex who think they are the most uber elite gamer in the world. God I wish I was kidding.

I mainly only got back into it because my husband did.

There isn't much to do at max level either. Same old content that you can replay about 100000 times over. You can grind out dilithium...but there isn't much to do. Oh, and if you want quick XP, check the daily events for Mirror Universe runs. I went ftom 43 - 47 in one hour playing through 4 MU's in one hour. The team I was on was spectacular. It also groups you with people you're own level (seems to) so you won't get a ten paired with several 50's for example.

50 is also not that difficult to reach. I went from 3 - 50 in about a week and a half, and I didn't even play all that much. Some of the beginning missions will give you almost 2 levels after each one completes. But if you like playing an entire arc smoothly...WAIT until you're late 20's before starting the Romulan arc. Each mission is for a certain level only, and I was always left 2 - 4k xp short at the end of each, so I had to go grind out cluster missions or PvE crap until I got it. Then I could play the next. It sucked. Same for most of the arc missions really.

There is also so little to do on the KDF side that they start you out at lvl 20. Most of the red side players constantly complain about how little there is for KDF players to even do.

OKay...this turned out way longer than I initially thought it would. It's fine for F2P I suppose, but I sure as hell wouldn't pay for it.
  22. It'll be 5am for me, I am not a night person and once I get up...I generally cannot go back to sleep. I don't know if I am willing to make my entire day miserable/near impossible to get through just to log in one last time. I want to, but...I generally get very sick if I don't get enough sleep. And trust me...I mean *really* sick.

Edit... Or is it 5pm? That is definitely doable. Damn time zones... >.>
  23. Midnight pacific... That would be... 5am my time. Oh for the love of... I probably won't be able to be there then.
  24. I will be there for sure. I've been trying for that badge for quite a while.
  25. That was me for the first week after the announcement. I couldn't read the forums without crying, couldn't log in without crying, couldn't look at the game without crying... I was crying. A lot. Over anything game-related.

    Now... I feel mostly...numb.

I have played three times in the last 2 weeks. I played two rounds of Tanker Tuesday, and yesterday participated in Brutal Thursday. I admit that I was miles away from gameplay yesterday, even looking at my husband and saying "I just don't feel like doing this..." I felt bad saying that. I mean this has been my life for the better part of almost 7 years!

I don't feel like playing at all. And when I do try I just kind of sit there and stare off into nothingness.

I know that when I log on for the Justice group picture today in anther couple of hours that I will probably be tearing up, and I likely won't be able to play or anything after, I'll just log off. I have tried to get screen shots, tried to go through all of my toons to play them "one last time," but it's proving to be impossible. I just don't have the drive to do anything...I'm just too numb.

My husband however feels like playing is counterproductive at this point, and logging in kinda of makes him feel a bit sick. He's basically only playing during TT times now.
