One off the CoH 'bucket list'
My first Hami raid I felt totally lost.
Even though I'd been following Tic-Toc's Guide to Hami Raids thread and read it over and over.
My second Hami raid I still felt lost, but it started getting better.
I finally took a turn as targetter at one of the last raids before I9 hit Live. Talk about feeling lost all over again.
Then I9 hit and I had to learn a new system.
I felt lost but we had some excellent leadership that made it easier.
I finally got used to the new Hami but didn't enjoy them nearly as much as the old raids.
Glad you got your first one under your belt.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Hey Find, congratz for surviving your first Hami, and if it's any help, I think most of felt like that our first time around.

I've only had a tank on a Hami raid twice. I was on the mito tank team both times. I was fine for the first round but after that I was totally lost then the bloom happened and I had no clue which mito was "mine". They told me to use a thumb-tack on the mini map but the scale on that thing is WAY too coarse to find the correct creature in a specific spot. I felt bad when I went to the wrong one and the team had to scramble to cover the missing one. They got me reoriented and I didn't make that mistake again, mostly by just staying put for the rest of the raid.
The second time was just a few weeks ago and I think I did a little better. Of course, the raid goes so much faster these days that I'm not sure I was actually contributing much.
I'm a seven year CoH veteran, but Monday night I completed my very first Hami Raid with my main, an Invul tank.
And boy, did I suck at it. All the mitos looked alike, I didn't know what was going on half on the time, and I definitely didn't pull my weight as a Hami tank. But you know, it was really fun (in a 'God, I can't believe I did that' kind of way,) and very enlightening. In particular, I'd like to thank the lead tank on the raid. (I forgot to write down his name, unfortunately, but I think there was only one Hami raid on Justice Monday night.) He/she was unfailingly polite and patient, and never once told me I was an idiot no matter how much as I felt like one. So cheers, Justice, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to do something I've wanted to do for seven years. But next time, maybe I'll try a scrapper. |
LOL yes the Mitos do look similar tho the color coding is helpful but the heat of battle combined with sometimes framefreezing lag (at least on my PC) can make what seems like it should be easy far more challenging. That said, I often simply put my toon on Follow and target thru the Green Mito team leader. Never having played the role, I've no idea what the Aggro holding Tanker team does specifically but am guessing Targeting Thru isn't an option.
For what it's worth the Hamidon Raid on Justice runs (almost) every Monday and Wednesdays at 9 EST. Simply get to the Hive and say on Broadcast "LF Hami league" or add Justice United or Justice For All chat channels and ask if the Hami raid is on. Customarily we follow it with a Rikti Mothership Raid. All are welcome!

I do agree, though, the yellow damage team in particular really rages through them these days. Between cheap jet packs (which has of course been around a long time now), IOs and AT Enhancements, AT and powerset buffs (hello, Fiery Aura and Stalkers!) and of course, Incarnates, the firepower the melee team can pump out is pretty intense.
The damage others can pump out is pretty intense, too, but since there's no dedicated "ranged" team, per se at Justice Hami raids, melee is the only category we see in isolation.
I remember when yellow and green teams used to actually be competitive in clearing speed, but that's incredibly rare these days. I don't pay a lot of attention to the composition of the green team these days, but I kind of doubt we're stacking that much less mez, so I'm assuming most of the difference is in increased damage by the yellow team.

Golden Avariel, that was pretty much exactly like my experience. In retrospect, I probably would have been more useful just staying put and being ready to taunt my mito again, but they were short on melee and asked the tanks to help the yellow team. As it was, everything happened so fast I always felt like I was two steps behind everyone else.
JohnRobey, I'm almost positive Hard Rock One was the raid leader, that names sounds right. Besides, I know WarBoss (waves to WB upthread) and LSK well from the Tanker Tuesday events, and would have remembered if one of them had been the lead. The tanker team lead was especially patient, and his/her name was Unbreakable, Unspeakable....something like that.
It is nice to know that I wasn't the only one who felt lost the first time!
A question for all of you...is playing a scrapper on a Hami raid easier/simpler than a tank? That was impression, and although I'll probably try again on a tank before the end, I also have a couple of high-level scrappers that might be fun to play on a Hami.
