Magisterium: The Really Hard Way - Sunday, August 19

Back at it this Sunday, going for The Really Hard Way. We should also get Shadow Master and The Hard Way (even if The Really Hard Way doesn't work out); Ready to Rumble is certainly possible, but I won't be actively trying for it on either of the first two runs. The first run won't use Ultimates, so we can practice dodging lightning and see where we start hitting the regen wall, then we'll go for the badge on the second try. Time and interest permitting, I could do a third run to try to get either Triple Threat or Ready to Rumble.

If you'd like me to save you a spot, post below or let me know in-game.

Requirements

  • +3 level shift.
  • Hybrid unlocked and slotted.
  • Completed the Magisterium trial.
  • At least 6 Ultimates. There may be some available at the event, but please try to bring your own. You can get them from:
    • Astral Christy in Ouroboros for 2 Astral Merits each.
    • Wentworth's. I haven't checked prices lately but last time I did they were running between 7 and 10 million.

Other considerations
  • If your badge character needs it, by all means, bring them.
  • General Incarnate suggestions:
    • Judgement: Try to avoid Vorpal (he resists smashing).
    • Interface: One with a damage proc. Reactive and Degenerative have nice other effects, but don't overdo them as they can only stack a few times.
    • Lore: High single-target DPS (List at ParagonWiki for comparison) and/or exotic damage. Note that Cimerorans are getting brought into line (i.e., nerfed) in i24, so be careful if you choose to make them.
    • Destiny: Barrier or Rebirth.
    • Hybrid: Assault (Radial) or Support.
    • If you can't change to one of these, anything's better than nothing. Also, don't change from an ability with a level shift to one without.
  • Overall, the main concern is being able to do steady damage to Tyrant. Stacking Barrier and Rebirth destinies should be enough to keep the league alive.
  • The best things to bring are damage, AoE damage and tohit buffs, and defense and resistance debuffs for Tyrant.
  • Corruptors are good, between the buff/debuffs and Scourge.
  • Leadership powers, particularly Assault and Tactics, are useful.
  • For filling the non-Ultimate slots in your tray: reds (although we'll hopefully be pushing the damage cap without them), greens, or team yellows (or red/yellows).

This will be Sunday, August 19. I'll start forming in Pocket D at 3:00 PM EDT and launch when we fill. I'll hold reserved spots until 3:30 EDT.

I have two blasters that can help with this. One is ice/ice/mace, the other is fire/mm/mace.

I can also bring a fire/rad controller. Would like to bring the fire/mm, but I have the badge already; will bow out if someone needs my spot.

Count me in with my namesake/badger (who needs this one) and who is an Emp/Rad Def @ +3, all but newest Destiny, WW/Cim Lore (though I could make others) and Support Hybrid

I should be around to help with this.

Very few people on my home server are making a real effort to get this badge and I want to knock it off my badge list so badly. If I can get a spot on this league i'll transfer my character just to have a real shot at getting the badge.

Sure thing! Please let me know a global or character name so I know who to look for, though

I have a Grav/Rad troller who could use those badges, and Zube still needs Triple Threat. Count me in!

This is about 75 minutes!

I may be a little late. I shouldn't be more than 5-10 minutes, though.

Sorry. Took longer than I was expecting. Logging in now.

We should have had that. We got him down to about 27% without Lores, but couldn't keep up the damage after we summoned them.

Still, that was a good league and I know we can get it.

I'm not completely sure I'll be able to try again next week and I may have to run it at a slightly later time than usual. I'll get a post up when I know for sure.

Thank you for the opportunity to be apart of this. I'll try to remember to check here more often for when you try again. Feel free to add @noyjitat and message me anyway should you try again soon.

On another note: I think its worth mentioning to have people turn on sprint/combat jumping and to use it instead of fly and superspeed. It ignores travel suppression and that good for getting out of the lightning faster.

Once the pets came out it seemed folks were paying less attention to the lightning. Then they died and so did their pets and spare ultimates.

That practice round was helpful though - by the end of that run practically no one was getting lightning-melted. It's just too bad we couldn't keep it up at the finish line.

Did others find it more helpful to fight him out-of-the-bowl? I find myself getting pinned sometimes when he was backed against the wall.

Looking forward to the next run

Thanks again for leading the charge. There were quite a few lightning spawns next to Tyrant. Still a most excellent effort and a good league. Need more practice with the lightning dodging. :-)

Actually, I often had trouble seeing the lightning once the pets came out. I'd be standing in what looked like a clear spot and whoops I'm dead.

Agreed. Ninja run is especially helpful. Whenever the air crackled I'd immediately leap backwards and keep moving until the columns had spawned. I only died once and that was thanks to Cole and an Olympian guard both punching my face at the same time.

Myself - I like it in the cratered area. The "flat" space seems to have more obstacles in my way than in the crater. First couple of times I'd have tyrant in my sights -but geography got in the way.

As we started against Black Swan, my video card driver just removed itself and I was just able to get back in time for the cut scene prior to Tyrant. That got me out of sorts as I was trying to get the team insps out of my email when that happened. In any event, I was pleased that we got him down in pretty good fashion before lore pets were called for - and almost think that since we did so well without them, we should just finish it without them. I think when lore pets are spawned, it gets people out of the rhythm of the lightning dance. But, that's just my worthless opinion.

I second the comment that SS allows for travel suppression. (third it?)However, I think the bigger factor is being rooted by lengthy animations.

I think the flat space works well when you have him out in the open. However, there seem to be some places that he gets wedged into that are just as bad, if not worse, than the area with spikes in the bowl. The idea behind pulling him there in the first place was to allow people to maintain line of sight at all times as they are dodging the lightning. So I think the most important point is that wherever we decide to fight him, be it in the bowl or on the flats, he has to be out in the open, and keeping him in the open should be a priority.

As for the run itself, it was a great effort by all. I have no doubt in my mind that the league we had today could have pulled it off. The fact we got him down to around 27% without even summoning Lore is very impressive. That is probably the furthest I've seen any league, including successful leagues, make it without using Lore. So in my mind the badge was well within our reach.

I think an important lesson from this run would be that there is a such thing as taking too much time. I'm not talking about running out of time, but as time goes on the more the fatigue of doing the same thing over and over again sets in and can result in more deaths which essentially translates into wasted resources (Ultimates and Lore specifically). So I think next time if we get him down to 30% with relative ease, we shouldn't worry too much about finding out where our "wall" is and instead just pull out the big guns and be done with it. Once we start losing ground after a bad round of lightning it's very difficult to regain it.

Overall though, solid attempt. I'll try to make it to the next one.

I assumed we were doing the flat area so when people die they can get back quicker to damage him.

That's certainly another benefit.

At this point, I'm still not sure if I can do this this Sunday, so I'm going to go ahead and cancel. I'll almost certainly try again the next Sunday, and get a thread up early next week.
