Hi Guys,

new laptop time mainly to get my photographical image workflow speeded up and to play our beloved game now and again

I have my eye on a Samsung model with the following spec:

CPU - intel i7 3610QM
GPU - Nvidia GT650M with 2Gb
RAM - 6 Gb DDR3
Storage - I Tb
Win 7 and then 8 on release

One question, will the above run the game with enough graphic detail to make it an okay experience for 45ish mins play sessions?

Thanks in advance for any responses. Cheers

Pfft! This thing is going to take CoH, toss it over its knee and spank the living *POOP!* out of it!

The only slowness you'll notice will probably be zoning due to the laptop-grade hard drive. And even that isn't all that bad (and you can upgrade to an SSD at some point if it's really important).

Hi Hyper,

lol what a cracking reply, made I laugh, and was also very useful in setting my mind at ease.

I will most certainly upgrade to an SSD after I get the machine and have set up the software as I want it et cetera, that was one of the features that swayed me to the choice.

The beast should be here in two days

Thanks again Hyperstrike, cheers

Still the resolution of the panel may impact performance. A 1920x1080 display will likely keep performance below 60FPS, assuming you play the game at the panel's native resolution, depending on the rest of your graphic settings.

What everybody else said, but I emphasize NOT going this route! Unless you're doing your work on a touch screen device (and using that interface only), then you're going to really shoot yourself in the foot. Especially if you spend more than an hour with it, then it'll be a litteral expression. ;-)

Just a point of reference, I have a Samsung NC110 Netbook. I upgraded the RAM from 1Gb to 2GB and removed the installed copy of Win 7 starter and replaced it with a copy of Win 7 Pro. I can play CoH on this at low settings and I take it with me to my gf's house so she and I can play together on weekend evenings. It can get a bit "chuggy" at times, but it's certainly playable.

Essentially what I'm saying is, there isn't much these days that CoH WON'T run on perfectly fine.

I hadda buy a new laptop, got what I think is a good deal (of course, who ever says "I got screwed big time on this, and I liked it!") on a Lenovo i5/6GB/Intel Hd3000/Win7Home Premium.

It actually plays ok. For a road warrior machine, solo missions, it'll be fine. Weird movin' with the touchpad, but I just need to pack a mouse with it for that.

Doing a TF such as BAF? Yeah, forget that noise, it'll melt something, I think.

Love me some Lenovo. They make awesome lappies. Have 14 of them for work, and so far, after 1.5 years, no issues. *knocked some wood*.

/I actually do intend to get the 8 Pro upgrade. I have seen the RTM and don't find it offensive at all. Sure it's weird... but then, so was XP at first. And Vista. Well, Vista is still weird.
//Oh, and all that is to say that what Hyperstrike says is dead on accurate. And hilariously awesome.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

It will "run" on my 8 year old Dell laptop. It won't play well at all, but it does run.

You need to slot your "Getting the point" attack with a bit more ACC tbh.
