So after 4 years of playing, I've finally got a lvl 50. What now?

Oh, you want a challenge after getting a 50? Ok. Here's one.
I challenge the OP to make an inherent origin power only offensive character with whatever pri/secondary you need to make it work, and go incarnate.
Not. Even. Brawl. Just the inherent one.
Just the dagger/potion/taser or whatever others there is. You *can* pick which one of those, but that's it.
Go.

Because the zone store ones you are talking about are the ones that most people slot while they are leveling up.
Also, you can slot common Invention enhancements at level 30 or so and you won't have to replace them as you level.

The sad thing is that the money you saved by not having to replace them every couple levels actually cost you more than you think. Since you were less efficient in killing stuff, your inf/time took a major hit, and you could have gotten to 50 much quicker.
This is, of course, assuming you soloed a lot. If you teamed for most of it, then I'm not sure why it took you so long to 50.

Okay now down to business.... Do whatever you like. If you enjoy teaming you have hit the ultimate team level .. forget 8 we are talking 16-24 and a bunch of bright shiny new powers you can craft with THREADS and special salvage.
Couldn't care less about the incarnates or Praetorians? I'd still go visit the new DA and run the solo/small team arcs.. okay so they award threads and stuff. They are pretty interesting and geared to your level.. same for the new ones in First and Night Ward.
Hey any level can do a Mothership Raid, Hamidon event or run all of the 45 and up task forces again and again and again.
Then there is always what I do... level MORE of them to 5o, turn them all in incarnates and form your own army. LOL

My suggestion is to stick some SOs in there right away, you can wing it but the suggestion of using Mids is a good one. You might need to do a respec to move some slots around. Then go talk to Mender Ramiel and do his arc. You should feel A LOT stronger after slotting.
Visit Wentworths or the Black Market and put some lowball bids in on generic IOs that pretty much match your SO slotting. You should feel a bit stronger after slotting generic IOs.
Then, after you feel a little more comfortable with Mid and the market, start planning a build using set IOs that will give your brute more . . . "oomph" I would suggest that a build that adds defense, recharge, and recovery is what you should shoot for.
Lots of people post builds on these forums and many are willing to critique them once posted. So look around for other regen builds (scrapper or brute should be fairly similar) or post a build yourself.
After getting a good set IO build and some incarnate powers you will feel truly godlike!
