i been away from the game since 2001 and now i am back as free to play.

I am a Terrible Mids Builder, can someone please check my build, if it looks too bad, can you fix it?

My play style is mostly solo and some teaming.

Now remember i am FTP so cant access IO's or sets, just do not have the cash to go VIP.

I also had to post here since i am not allowed to post in arch types section, now for my build

Well, since the game came out in 2004...

I'm not too familiar with brutes but I don't see anything drastically wrong with the build. Flight is capped without enhancement, so you could replace the Fly enhancement with an End Redux. Taunt is auto hit in PvE, so unless you PvP, you could replace the Acc with a Taunt duration.

Hopefully, someone will be along soon with more details.

Hi Miss Ozarks, i will copy your mids build and post it over on Archetypes and power forum since you said you cant post there, and maybe someone be able t help you out, there is a few players on this forum that will help but there is a lot who wont help, do not know why but just way things seems to be here so don't worry if don't get a response soon and have your build redone or fixed if anything is wrong.
i have had a lot of help from few players that i try to keep in touch with on these forums if i have specific questions and need help, so you will be fine just takes time for the nice players to come along and help you out

Ok your Build is now on the Archetype and Powers forum, so now you can check back in on both sites and see if anyone has stepped up to help you out, sorry i wish i could do more but im still a noob to this game so i cant offer much help to anyone.

Your problem is that you have 35% resistance to most damage types and 0% defense to anything.

That means you are getting hit with 50% of all attacks being fired at you, and only resisting 35% of those hits.

There are a couple things you can do, but it will require a respec. You want to take:Tough, Weave, Combat Jumping, and maybe Maneuvers. That will get you to about 15% defense. It's not a lot of defense, but it's better than 0%.

Fiery Aura is an offensively-oriented secondary with a lot of damage potential in it through Burn and Fiery Embrace. The trade off for that is it is not as sturdy as other secondaries, and can be downright squishy at times.

Look into the Brute Archetype Origine enhancement. You can get them through the market, and they are available to all players, not just VIPs. splitting the set between 2 powers will give you a little more Smashing and Lethal defense to work with (the 2 most common damage types)

There's nothing actually wrong with your build, you're just discovering the price Fiery Aura pays for its higher amount of offense.

OMG thank you very much hun for doing this, very nice of you-

Oh, I overlooked something that was mentioned in the thread Emjack started.

You don't have any KB protection.

The easiest way to get it is via IOs, but that isn't an option for you.

The way you can do it is:

-Replace Air Superiority with Combat Jumping and Super Jump.
-Replace something with Acrobatics.

Alternately, you can get a few Paragon Points and wait until a defense or resistance set shows up in the Market. Storebought IOs are different from in-game IOs. Anyone can use the Storebought ones, while only VIPs or people with enough Reward Tokens can use in-game ones.

Also, you mentioned that you can't afford to go VIP, which is $15 a month.

Can you afford $4 a month? Because you can get IO and Auction House licenses for only $2 a month each. They are 160 paragon Points each and let you use IOs and the auction house for 30 days at a time. You can buy $5 worth of points at a time and have the licenses, which will help you greatly in building your brute. If you do that for a long enough period of time, you will eventually earn enough Reward Tokens to unlock IOs and the Auction House permanently.

You've basically taken everything from your primary and secondary sets, and I don't think you really need to. You can probably drop at least one single target attack which can free up some room for Acrobatics, as Claws said.

If you're going to take Taunt, and use it, you're going to be the focus of attention of the enemies. But without the defenses to back it up, you're going to get pummeled. I would drop Taunt and Temperature protection and pick up either boxing/kick and Tough. This will give you more S/L resistance, which can help you out a bit. Then maybe pick up Weave in the 40s, which will give you some Defense as well.

Note: I'd pull one of the Damage SOs from Burn and actually slot an Acc in there.

There's exactly ZERO reason for you to take Air Superiority. You can now take the second-tier powers from travel pools (Teleport, Fly, Super Jump) without taking a prerequisite.

You haven't slotted up Health or Stamina at all. They're inherent now. Use them.

Taunt is AutoHit in PVE. And you're NOT going to be taking this build into PVP competitively.

If you're just returning, your funds may be limited right now.
But, once you build those up, look into at least temporarily unlocking the Auction House and purchasing Hamidon Origin enhancements. They work just like dual-aspect SOs and could save you some slots while boosting performance.

For instance. You're currently two-slotting Acc and three-slotting Damage.
Three Nucleolus Exposures (or Synthetic Nucleolus Exposures) provide the same damage buff and MORE accuracy than you're currently burning 5 slots for.

And Ribosome Exposures. They provide Resistance and Endurance Reduction. So they're ideal for Fire Shield and Plasma Shield.

Membrane Exposures do +ToHit and Recharge.

Golgi Exposures do Heal and Endurance Redux.

Here's a quickie rework of what your build could look like on a mix of SOs and HOs.

First off thanks for the rebuild. Till I get the money and unlock auction house to buy the HO's, what is exactly am i to put in the HO's that you have in the slots now? That is what is confusing me,cause at this time I need to know exactly what goes into those HO's slots as SO's? This way I know what to put in those HO's slots while I'm leveling up, I don't want to sound like a ***** I just need a complete SO build. I still have a lot to learn and understanding of this game, you see where I am comming from? I need to know what goes into those slots instead of HO's so I'm not sitting here and going ok does this HO'S needs to be replaced with a SO acc or endredex or damage or recharge.

I apologize for sounding like a ***** but I'm just returning back to game and I just need the SO build not a build with any HO's ect... Till I feel very confortable
with the game again and get all my bearings of what is going on in the game ( the basics ) -

First of all, I'm at work, so I can't look at everything everyone's already sent you, hopefully I'm not repeating what everybody else has already given you.

Brutes have fairly low base damage. They use fury to make up for this and get them to respectable levels of damage once they're rolling. Why am I telling you this? In the grand scheme of things, slotting a damage SO in a brute's attacks gives them less benefit than, say, a scrapper. Fury makes up the difference. So, enhancing damage in your attacks is less important for a brute than a scrapper (not to say it's not important, or that ultimately, you shouldn't hope to squeeze in 3 SOs of damage in there, but it may not be your first priority).

Is your problem you're not surviving? Or is your problem you run out of endurance to attack and the mobs whittle you down? /Fire is a pretty squishy set, as has been mentioned here and in the other thread. It is however, an offensive powerhouse.

Personally, I'd try to fit the following in my attacks for a brute that I was running on SOs-
1 Acc (2 if I plan on fighting +1/+2/+3 enemies); 1 end reduction, 2 damage (3 eventually), 1 recharge SO (optional, I use it on stuff with longer recharges that I want up fast). If you are running out of blue bar to power your heal or attacks, the culprit is most likely your attacks- toggles actually cost very little endurance in relation to your attacks. Consume I wouldn't slot like an attack, I'd slot with one acc and as many recharge reducers as I could squeeze in there.

I'm going to link to an old guide that's humorously written and gets the point across well. JoJo the Bunny's Guide to Endurance Dysfunction and You. It's as true for SO'ed characters today as it was when it was written. Enjoy!

Honestly, for most of your attacks, 5 slots should be fine.

If you want to max damage:

Acc, Dam x3, and either an EndRed or a Recharge.

If you want to make sure you're hitting more often:

Acc x2, Dam x2, and an EndRed or Rech as you prefer.

If you have spare slots at the end, yeah, go ahead and six-slot out a couple attacks to add an EndRed or a Recharge (whichever you didn't add before) or a third Damage SO.

In your active resists (Fire Shield, Plasma Shield, Tough),

Go with 2-3 Resists and an EndRed.

In your passive resist (Temp Protection), go with just Resists (since it costs no endurance).

In Healing Flames, I'd just go two Recharge and two Heals. Only devote more if you find it isn't coming up often enough for you.

Depends on the attack in question.

If it is a long recharge attack, slot another recharge in it. If it is a short recharge attack, I usually go with end reduction.

If it doesn't seem to fit either of those criteria, throw another damage in if you don't already have 3 in it.

You know your character better than we do, so you are the best judge of what it needs more of.

Is your character already 50? If not then don't worry about HO's at all as they're level 50 enhancements and can't be slotted below level 47.

It's been awhile since I've built an SO-only character but if I were building a Fire/Fire brute I'd do something along these lines:

Please note that on a leveling build (IE building it while playing from 1-50 as opposed to respec'ing at 50) the slot order would probably change but I'd end up somewhere close to this in the end.

Don't take this as gospel as there are a lot of different playstyles and equally valid build decisions you could make but this should be effective. There's not a lot you can do on SO's to make Fire Aura really tough unfortunately, that's the price you pay for it's offensive (pardon the pun) firepower.

Thanks everyone for the help and advice and the builds, it all makes sense now.

I was looking at things a different way but i am good now -

As a side note - you'll get them a lot faster on the market, but don't feel that you have to use the market to get HOs (although you'll still need to be level 47+): they're available in random-drop format as an end-of-TF reward for the ML(S)TF and LRSF, or at the end of a Hami raid trial. Due to this, I built up a personal stockpile of around a hundred or so various HOs before the merit system by doing LRSFs frequently, and that's a pretty small number compared to others I was running with.

Otherwise, I posted in the Brute section - I tend to slot endurance reduction before damage on Brutes; that started back when Fury decayed much faster, though, so it's probably a wash at this point. The idea is that being able to keep going helped your damage more than losing it and having to build it back up when you needed to stop and get some endurance back. On SOs while leveling up I usually do 1-2 accuracy, 1-2 end reduction, then 1-2 damage and possibly 1 recharge depending on what the final slotting is going to be. Of course, I then replace those slots with IOs for better numbers and set bonuses later on, but you can get similar numbers with HOs if you ignore the set bonuses.
