Stone/Dark ... Yes you read it right

Hey,

Ive always wanted a /Dark toon but I never really got past the mid teens. With my recent Brute spree (aren't they just great?) I decided to try a stone/dark brute out knowing the synergy with stacking stuns etc (and the endurance nightmare that would follow)

I LOVE IT ! Really, one of the most fun melee toons ive played in a while

After just over 48hours of life he's already lvl 25 and so decided to look towards a build.

-I tried my best to do my homework with regards to Oppressive gloom and/or Cloak of Fear but couldn't seem to get a definitive answer.-

Since I have neither power atm (though I have a human form warshade so I know how OP works) I don't know how badly mobs will be running/waddling if I combine them. If anyone has reasons for or against OP/CoF or OP+CoF it would be great to hear them.

(edit) To outline my goals for the build. I went for 32.5% for S/L/E/N (as suggested by Dechs I believe in an old dark armor post) as opposed to chasing 45% Melee or S/L. Im not sure how smooth the attack chain would be. (it seems like it would be ok just from eyeballing) and im not sure the extra demand for endurance would help. ((I could afford the PVP 3% def at a stretch though it would probably clean me out money wise :P ... but if it ment i could drop weave and keep 32.5% s/l/e/n I would consider it (assuming 32.5% s/l/e/n is the way to go for /dark) ))

"Any and all feedback welcomed"

Anyways here the build ((cardiac will obviously be my choice for Alpha))

Stone/Dark will be awesome...

Now, just a couple of things I would change if it were me personally...

I would find room for a Glad Armor +3% Defense unique...they're not all that pricey anymore...a couple hundred million is cheap relatively.

Second thing I would do, is I would drop all but the perf shifter proc from Phys Perf. Why? Well, because those extra slots aren't helping you all that much. The base modifier for that power is not all that great...instead...I would get the atlas medallion and portal jockey accolades...the 2 of those will give +5 to your max endurance EACH! So you'll have 112-115 endurance, and that will naturally make your recovery more, because you have more endurance to work with...works the same as regeneration basically...you can use those 2 slots in Phys Perf elsewhere to more effect....like say...in Fault! Put a 5 slotted set in there and get some more set bonuses!

Currently Playing:
Rage King - SS/Regen Brute (50+3)
Soulfire Darkness - Dark/Fire Tank (50+2)
Deaths Final Embrace - Kat/Dark Brute (50+3)

I don't know if this was the most brilliant idea ever, but in my Staff/Dark Brute I slotted a full Overwhelming Force set in Death Shroud (the damage aura). That gave me another 4 points of KB protection from the full set bonus (since I don't have - and can't really afford - all the KB protection IOs that you do), and also added another small bit of damage mitigation (as the proc makes everything fall down around me).

It's fun, if nothing else.

For your question (which looks like you answered with your build), OP is a better way for you to go. The Mez aura's provide an awful lot of mitigation, even though they are only reliably taking minions out of the equation, and since you have Fault for stacking stuns OP is the way to go. CoF is only worth it if you can get 3+ slots into the power while OP is a one slot wonder and easy on the blue bar. You'll love stacking stuns on bosses and the first time you stun an EB you will go a bit giddy (at least I did on my Dark/Kin tank when it happened on the Halloween event EB).

I only looked for a brief second.

Fault -> ff chance for rech. You should be smashing fault nonstop and constantly getting rech.

Well, to be fair there's already one in Tremor and mashing Fault nonstop usually isn't necessary.

It also can fit in each of the Mallets if you don't want the long animation.

Putting one in tremor strikes me as a horrible decision. Tremor animates SLOW (cast time 3.3 seconds), whereas fault animates in 2.1. You can fault-stonefist faster than tremor can animate, and do crowd control with the kd. You can do fault->smash in .3 seconds longer (it sure doesnt feel like its slower...) than a tremor. Hands down, tremor is just a horrid power for a brute. Its good for a mule and nothing else. I can consistently kill faster mashing fault and single target attacks then I can using tremor whenever it is up. At high levels of fury, it is simple to 1shot your way through all the minions with ease, and 2shot lts, and 3ish shot bosses. I was quite surprised at how much my kill rate changed dropping tremor from my attack chain.

That being said, I can only see fault as being a core component of crowd control that is just unbelievably awesome.

Fault is a great power. Tremor animates slowly. I'm not disputing that.

But Tremor does do damage, and if things are in the AoE it's faster than hitting ten different mobs with Stone Fist (and any damage proc you slot into Fault you can slot into Tremor). Heck, with arcanatime included it's faster than using each mallet once to hit two mobs. I'm not saying use Tremor whenever it's up, I'm saying use it to get rid of the minions while your single target attacks are killing the bosses, and enjoy the +rech that it provides when FF procs.

Ahhhh nice catch guys

I completely missed the chance to put them in the mallets .... hmmmm

Im not sure how the endurance would suffer if I had 3-4 of those procs going (2 in AoE's) it might not work out to be a good thing lol

Im currently only lvl 29 on the toon in question ((gona fully commit to him once i finish my final set of purps on my WS)) so I dont know how that would work out ....

I am having my doubts about Cloak of Fear however ... With the soon the be basically perma Mag 4 stun it seems like it might just be a waste of end. I know I took it based mostly on the -tohit component but from what I hear that is HEAVILY resisted by everything that really you would need it for (tough AVs and incarnate)) ... I guess dropping it ... taking a random mule and adding the slots for FF proc to a mallet and Fault? Not to sure just ball parking ...

Im ogling my build now and cant decide on CoF

Infact I just did some Jiggerypokery ((yeah its a word, i saw it in my home made thesaurus)) >.>

I dropped Cloak of Fear, and Picked up Manoeuvres ... now they cost basically the same to run BUT! I also cracked a set of Kinetic Combat in Heavy Mallet in place of the crushing impact ((5% recharge bonus is topped by another LOTG anyways)) and managed to get softcap to S/L, 39% to E/N and within 1 small purple for melee ...

Me thinks this would be better ...?

and would subtract from my already prevalent issue of things trying to run from me

Thoughts? ...

Good luck to you. I got a Stone/Dark Brute to 50, but it was the most miserable leveling experience I've had in this game. The end issues were infuriating.

Granted this was done mostly pre-inventions, but even spending a goodly amount of influence on a build didn't make it that much fun. She's pretty much my only 50 that I never play.
