Now that Gladiator +3 Defense and Panacea came into my price range I have been respecing some toons and picking them up.

MY silly market nitch makes me about 10 million every few days or maybe 20 million a week. Nothing much really.

But I noticed that Gladiator +3 Defense recipe was at almost 1 billion. So me being smart ( or I thought ). I have about 2k in merits. I figured I would buy another gladiator IO for 100 million and then make it and convert it over for the close to 1 billion recipe.

As you already picked up.. Recipe and crafted IO are not the same. End result I have 2 other Gladiator +3 defense IOs I can use on some other respecs.

I just didn't put 2 and 2 together when looking at Recipe and Crafted IOs. Granted I could probably make 150 million on the crafted IO I guess.

1: D'OH!

2: Why is that recipe so drastically more expensive than the crafted enhancement? I really don't get that...

1. Because of converters, it's easy to convert a crafted PvP IO into the one that you want... IE a Glad Armor 3% def IO.

2. You can't convert recipes.

3. People are generally stupid.

4. Thus, recipes still sell for a billion, against all real logic.

What Organica said, plus, for a long time the recipes sold at the cap, so there was no point at all in crafting the IO before selling, so virtually none passed through the market. I guess people just stopped looking at the crafted IOs.

People come and go all the time, but even if they stop playing their bids are still active. There was a post shortly after Converters came out about a returning player who found all of his "lowball" bids of 1B for Glad Armor: +3% Def IOs were filled. There are probably plenty of "lowball" bids for the recipes as well, from people who are no longer playing.

Yet sadly all my bids on for IOs and recipes for Glad +3s never filled at my 1 influence price

There's lowball, and then there's wasting your time.

Weird...maybe it's cause of the different recipes/enhancements I've looked at but I've always found the crafted enhancements to be selling for more than the recipes would; even accounting for the price to craft the recipe.

*shrugs*

I was just going to start a new thread for a "pat on the back" but this will suffice...

So today I was going through all of my toons (lvl 50s that I don't play often or at all lately) and actually taking inventory of what they have (in recipes, vault, AE tickets, reward merits, etc...) so that when looking for a certain thing I don't have to wonder and guess if I have it or not.

So I come to one of my brutes (claws/sr which I used to use for AE farming a bit) and was just double-checking his reward merits or something small but as I was logging out I noticed, "1 item bought at the Auction House".

I logged back into that character because I had no idea what I had bought (since I haven't played him in a good 4 months).

I open up the AH, *clicks on bought tab* O_O

I had put in a bid for a lvl 46 +3% def IO enhancement and I actually got it for 2,020,000 influence!

I look at the history and it looks like I got it in April of this year hehe.

I was (and am) happy

Edit:

I think I put the bid in when I read on the forums that people were putting up for "sale" to store money (to be over the 2b limit); things that people wouldn't buy normally. Put in a bid...a year (? who knows) later I got one heheh.

That's normally true, but even before converters appeared there were times when things like PvP or Purple recipes would sell for more than the crafted IOs... people don't usually check.

To be honest, I don't check...

Then again I don't buy a lot (beyond salvage)...

Even normal IOs will sometimes go through a phase of the IO selling for less than the recipe. Sometimes if marketeers are trying hard to undercut one another, or have a lot of stock and start dumping it, then they can push the IO price down far enough that it's cheaper than the recipe (especially if you bid creep). I always check the IO v. recipe, just in case :-)
