you know what? I think I have an idea to make AT's with combination powersets (like the crusader and the enervator on kirsten's list for example) and to make them feel new...We let the players choose the combination for the powerset rather than having to pick from pre selected combinations

That wouldn't work, it does sound like a great idea, but there wouldn't be any balance to the toon. For example what if some one chose Armor/ Debuff, they wouldn't be able to kill anything, if some chose Ranged/ Armor, that would be incredibly unfair.


When it comes to making a new AT, you have to have balance. That's what I've been working on with my AT ideas, I work with them until their balanced.


Steps to making a Archetype:


1. Figure out the power sets.


2. Come up with a play style.


3. What is it's stats?


4. An actual hero or villian AT from comic books <-- Bonus


5. Would players want to make one because it's a good AT, or because it's new?


6. Is it already an AT in the game?

7. Balance.


Follow these steps to make an awesome AT (do not have to follow these steps).

i like the 'Assault/Armor' suggestion, and I'm kinda surprised they haven't done something more with assault

That's not what I'm talking about, as an example for what I AM talking about however I will use the crusader secondary powerset. You see instead of a preset combination of a defence set and a buff/debuff set, you would be able to make pick your own defense and buff/debuff set. Like instead of choosing that radiation powerset, you would instead be able to pick energy/radiation or bio armor/radiation. Right now it would be hard to implement now but in the future they could figure out. In other words, you make a powerset by combining two existing powersets.

Honestly I think it would be a good thing. Currently ATs with unique powersets get limited support because time spent on them only benefit a small portion of the player base.

Adding new ATs that utilize those same sets means that Dev time spent on those sets benefits a larger portion of their customers. Meaning that the existing archetypes that use those sets might get a more equal share of resources, since they're no longer outliers.
