Basic Slotting for Grav/Kin

I have a Troller I got up to 45, no idea how, cause I don't really enjoy him. I hate to delete him as he's almost a 50 and I like his back ground. Anyway what are the basics for slotting this? I have zero experience with controllers and am not sure what to do with this guy.

I'm not looking to purple him out so lets stick to basics.

Would be happy to make you a build for this, but any build I made for a controller would be including purples (and ATOs too). Controllers benefit from high recharge bonuses, and the easiest way to get these is from purples. I would also recommend slotting for either ranged defense or s/l/e defense if you pick scorpion shield from the patron pools. A lot of kins pick the s/l/e route because its best to be in melee range when you use fulcrum shift, however I find that, especially in the late game, most attacks are ranged and so ranged defense is more useful. Also, if you slot for ranged, you'll probably pick a resistance shield (e.g. mind over body) from the epics, which is nice to have layered with the defense.

Since you're on a kin, damage set bonuses don't really matter, so really anything to boost your recovery, defense, recharge would be a good idea.

No purples, 1 pvp io (hey I'll send you one and you can convert till you get the right one), 1 ATO set (not too spendy), the rest is pretty cheap. There are 4 lotgs, but you can get those pretty easily with alignment merits. This is not how I would build it for myself, but I think this might be reasonable for your play style.

Estimated cost (excluding lotgs and the pvp io)- 150mill

Thanks. I'll look in to that. Part of the problem I've decided is that I don't have enough time with this guy and don't have a feel for the AT and the powers. So I'm going to try to log some time with him and see where I'm at then.

Never played a support toon and it's verrrrrry different from what I'm used to.

In general, I have found that a character being well slotted will make it a lot more fun. You don't die as often or run out of end. And you just in general feel more useful.

For a kin, mostly just throw out a sb once in a while (at an enemy is fine, it will hit the target (your teammate) and any other teammates in the area) and do a lot of fulcrum shifting. Use your heal as needed and as a debuff for longer lasting enemies. If you can pay attention to the league, use your transference when someone is low on end

For what it's worth -

- Use Wormhole as a main power. Especially with Kin. Use walls/corners. Be smart about it.

- Use the AoE Hold - It'll be up a lot

- With the latest changes, I like Dimensional shift. It's different, takes a little getting use to, but is VERY versatile. With the recharge difference between the AoE hold and this, you should never be without large groups shut down.

- All my trollers with an AoE Immob get respecc'd into using it at 50 and slotted with the 5x Immob Purple (1 being the Hold proc) and a Posi Dmg proc. With containment alone, the dmg is noticeable and especially the holds going off. With Kin, it'd be like a gold mine.

The damage changes were laughably overpowered; Kin will take that over the top.

I'm very proactive on my trollers, especially in the late game. My Grav/Storm is pretty fun for pure chaos just for the hell of it or it can be a complete area lock down.

I prefer ranged defense on everything that isn't in melee from the get go as I tend to be proactive and will aggro stuff however I want. They aren't touching me, then they are locked down, then melee attacks don't really matter.


And if you ever call a controller a support character again........

Well I've been messing around with this guy and getting to know how the powers work and it's starting to get fun. Who knew? Still think I have a way to go but it's coming along. Few more TF's and he might be ready for respec and IO sets.

Just to be fair, I built my Grav/Kin specifically to be a support character, and it's amazing.

That's the nice thing about Controllers, though... there are a lot of different ways to build one. They can be focused on pure offense and kick all the ***, or focused on pure support, or anywhere in between. I've got a very damage-oriented Fire/Kin, and a few other Controllers who fall in the middle of the spectrum.

I think one of the reasons I like Controllers so much is that they offer the greatest playstyle variety of any AT (without devolving into an aberrant style like a "blapper").

I have one of those too, and she's been languishing trying to get up to having Singularity. I feel like I want to at least give her a chance and get up to it because I have trouble liking Gravity, and I thought it would be a damaging combination, but I just don't feel controly enough to feel really survivable. I also was hoping I'd like it better after the Gravity improvements but still wasn't feeling it. I think I'm spoiled by other control sets, I like a lot of my other trollers better.
