Lightning Storm and Masterminds... worth anything?

So I've been running a lowbie Beast/Time, and enjoying her... but rather suddenly I had a hankering to switch to /Storm; for a few different reasons; but the biggest being... I've never had Lightning Storm despite playing COH since just after launch.*

This bothered me since well... I like everything I can see about the power. Visually it's pretty impressive, and pumping out extra damage on top of my pets is high on my list of "things I want to do" - knocking things around is usually fun too since I mostly solo my MMs.

But again I've never had the power myself - and I know Time is both powerful and relatively enjoyable. So I figured I'd just ask before I decide whether or not to re-roll... is Lightning Storm worth going after? Or is it disappointing damage-wise on a Mastermind (like all our other personal damage powers)?

Appreciate any help < . .>b

I have never been disapointed by the power. I like to throw one out right on top of me as a buffer to anything trying to close into melee with me. Throwing a couple out onto a big bad helps the melting quite efficiently. No idea how beasts are, but my favorite pairing with /storm is bots.

Lightning Storm is nice to have but it's not a be-all-end-all game changer for Storm. You should really want MORE out of Storm than just one power if you're seriously thinking of deleting and rerolling. Just be mindful of the fact that Time synergizes well with Beast in ways that Storm "can't" (except situationally). Time is more about CONTROL while Storm is more about CHAOS. You can leverage both quite well, but not in the same way within the exact same situations ... so it really depends more on your preferred playstyle (and how much grief you enjoy giving your Team/League).

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

It is a fun power, and does some good damage. A friend has hers slotted with the Chance to Hold proc and it seems to go off a lot. Storm is an excellent set with MMs, but as others here have said..Time will combine better with beasts.
And why delete the toon just on a whim? Make a NEW mm as beasts/storm?

For Chaos! >_>

Seriously though, thank you for the perspectives <^_^> I think I've decided to go ahead and try Storm - Lightning Storm is what caused my initial attraction, but further thoughts really make me think I'll enjoy Storm a bit more. Time, for all it's effectiveness, is a bit... stodgy. It just doesn't make me excited to play it.

@MisterD - 3 reasons mainly: 1) I want to re-use the same basic character, just with a different power as secondary - so I need to free the name up if nothing else.

2) She's only level 13, so it's not like I'm losing a lot of work.

3) Aaaaand I'm out of slots on Guardian and since that's where my SG plays; I'd be annoyed building her on another server only to find out I can't play with the SG ><;

---

Anyways, thank you all again < . .>b It's helpful knowing that I'm not chasing a power that's useless. (I know it may seem a bit odd to fixate on just the one power, but I generally like the idea of the rest of the set as well - Lightning Storm just catches the imagination is all.)

And I'm off to reroll!

I love it on my Merc/Storm. Then again, the name of that game is UNMITIGATED KNOCKBACK!!1!

It's a fun game.

Beast/Storm is a baaaaad idea. Pets have an AI bug where they wont chase enemies that are knocked back. They will only go after them after the enemy gets back onto his feet. You get tornado and lightening storm in there knocking enemies around and your wolves are just gonna stand there not doing anything. Even when the bug gets fixed, somewhere around I46 probably, they'll still have to chase enemies everywhere.

Get yourself a knockback>knockdown proc (Overwhelming Force set) and stick it into Tornado. That'll give you TWO nice pseudo-pet damage powers.

Two points. First, from the issue 24 patch notes on beta:

Combat Pets
Pets will now use melee attacks on critters that are in ragdoll mode.
So, that bug will be fixed in a month or so, not issue 46.

Second, the wolves will only have to spend time chasing things everywhere if you're bad at storm. Contrary to the popular reputation of the set, a good storm user will be *reducing* scatter, not increasing it. Yes, storm is capable of some very effective chaos control if you choose to unleash it. Yes, storm is capable of causing all sorts of headaches in the wrong hands. But fundamentally, storm is the *positioning* set, not the 'scatter' set. While I think that there are definitely legit plusses and minuses to storm in general and a beast/storm mastermind in particular, scatter is *not* one of them.

It took them years to fix the bug where Oil Slick made pets flip out and run in all directions and they still haven't fixed Hybrid which, at the moment, is useless to MMs. This ragdoll bug has been there since the start it just wasn't obvious until Beast Mastery came out. There any number of power issues that have gone on for years so you can understand my pessimism. I'm SHOCKED that they're addressing this before 2016.
