DA/Staff Tanker will this work?

I am working on a DA/Staff Tanker, and I am new to DA, Staff, and Tanking, so I am unsure whether this build will work the way I want it to.

I have put it together not to be a primary tanker for a group, but to be a resilient assist on damage that grabs enough aggro to support a group while still being able to work as a solo toon. Is there anything that I am missing, or any way to improve this toon in any way?

What strategies would you suggest in soloing or grouping with this toon?

Ok first off why did you have to post it with Halloween colors? second off you r over the rule of 5 with your LoTG recharge. Only 5 of them count. Plus why did u not take Death Shroud? It is one of the things that u can have up to help you to keep aggro on you and it dose some damage to your enemy's. You didnt even take taunt to help you since you didnt take death shroud. Focus Accuracy which is a big end hog. Not to mention maneuvers which is another big end hog. I would of tooken CJ instead of maneuvers which is better on the end wise. DA is one of the few ATs for melee that has no KB protection, and most ppl use 8 to 12 KB protection since lot of the end game content has 8 or more KB, 7 is not helping u much there. It also looks like you r trying to go with positional, and typed def, pick one not both. Also you have hover on which will get u close to SC but I am not sure your going to be in hover mode all the time your fighting. Not to mention you are over slotted for res in dark embrace. Eye of the storm is one of the special attacks that works with staff mastery.

Sorry about the LotG mis-step, that was an artifact of a previous build. I was looking at Death Shroud but concerned about endurance, also how effective it would be. What would you suggest I drop to add Death Shroud?

I actually did take CJ, and maneuvers. I shifted for another point of KB in this new build.

FA is just a mule to hold perception and S/L defense while unlocking PP. It should not have been turned on.

For defense I am going for typed, the positional is just an artifact of the other bonuses.

I'm used to fighting in hover, so that shouldn't be a problem.

As for EotS, I chose to focus on only using SS because I liked its effects better, and thought it was better to take one rather than both, especially since I am tight on power slots for this build.

If your concern about end u should of taken conserve power. I switched out both maneuvers and put in hast,, and focus acc and put in conserve power in there, but I didnt put in taunt which i would of done instead of after burn. I moved some slots around, and added in some sets of reactive amour instead of the aigis which will be better for you in the long run. plus got u closer to SC in s/l/en/neg.

eh, my dark/dark tank only has 4 points of -KNB. You specifically said you're not planning to be a "primary tank" so the knockback protection isn't that big a deal.

Since you already took Maneuvers, I would have taken Tactics - this benefits the entire team. As far as unlocking Physical Perfection, I would go with Conserve Power to help with those toggles. Death Shroud is Dark Armor's taunt aura. If you do not have it or Taunt, your ability to hold agro is dependent entirely on Gauntlet. I would not want to be a blaster relying on Gauntlet to keep things off me.

With Staff Fighting, endurance should not be a problem at all. Simply live in Form of the Soul until you have your end issues straightened out. And presonally, I'd drop Serpent's Reach. After 40 levels of a DA/Staff Tanker, I found I was never using it, so I dropped it from my build to add Cloak of Fear.

Are you sure you want to skip an AoE with a 10 foot radius that will hit 10 targets?

My reasoning is that Staff Fighting's single target damage is mediocre, but its AoE is excellent. My build isn't even complete yet and I have a full attack chain of nothing but AoE attacks.

I'm not even sure what Eye of the Storm's effects are in the various forms, because that's not what I use it for. I use it for AoE damage output.

To be perfectly blunt: If you skip Death Shroud AND EotS, your damage output will be pretty pathetic. Staff doesn't have the kind of ST damage output to get away with skipping AoEs.

Here's something I posted in another thread.

-Soft capped defense versus all positions provided you refresh Defensive Sweep. Cloak of Fear provides a small buffer against -Def with the -ToHit from it
-Decent global recharge
-Very high damage resistance (capped S/L/N/Psi as far as I recall) with no Resistance lower than 60% in combat. The superior tanker ATO will constantly be double stacked in combat so add 6.7% to what Mids' is showing, plus an additional 10% from Sky Splitter if you use Form of the Body
-Endurance should be manageable

There is a few things i do not like about both builds, some is the same thing but FYI this is from my play style and what I like doing. ! with both taunt having 1 slot, Me i prefer more there to put in either a full set of perfect for extra def, or mocking for both def and recharge, also for when I do HAMI. Claw's build only has 8 KB which I dont like due to how I like to Tank on HAMI. the KB for it is 10. Both have cloak of fear which has been my experience with most fear attacks and other fear component they run away from you. Especially Rom in the ITF. In Dsorrows build he has Kick instead of boxing I prefer Boxing over Kick for I do use boxing in my attack chains and that is why, Kick is a KB attack, some folks take it just to get tuff and weave but why take a power where you can not use it. Also he has a full set of glad armor which can be expensive, and or time consuming.
Now to the OP what I said here is for my personal play style they both have good points in there builds. What I have done in the past is take what works for me on the builds and work it to my personal play style. I am not saying there builds are wrong far from it. What I am saying take what you like form all 3 builds and try to use what you like in your own build for your personal play style. Not to mention there will be times where you will have to be the main tank. where you might get on a team that needs aggro off the others, or you might be in a situation where you are alone while the others go do other stuff in a speed TF, or other stuff like Itrials.

LSK, Your build seems a little weak to fire and ice, and I don't see the need for Rech to be so high.

C&E, I actually added DS into the build on the rebuild(fix), your build seems a little weak to fire and ice. I'll look at switching to an AoE approach.

DSorrow, interesting approach, looking at positional rather than typed defense, but I don't like the dependence on GS, again, I don't see the need for the high recharge.

I appreciate all of your efforts in encouraging and teaching me about tanking, I have never been a tank before, so have only worked on aggro accumulation via the punch-to-the-face method common among scrappers. I tried to incorporate the strengths of your different builds, while working off of my own, and thinking about the attack chain. I am currently looking at MB>GS>IS>EotS with DR thrown in when needed and available. I do have taunt in this build, but remember, this is more for solo than group so I have slotted appropriate to my playstyle. I have moved to sc on S/L/E/N with F/C almost there.

Again, I am new to almost all aspects of this toon, so feedback is appreciated.

DSorrow, interesting approach, looking at positional rather than typed defense, but I don't like the dependence on GS, again, I don't see the need for the high recharge.

I appreciate all of your efforts in encouraging and teaching me about tanking, I have never been a tank before, so have only worked on aggro accumulation via the punch-to-the-face method common among scrappers. I tried to incorporate the strengths of your different builds, while working off of my own, and thinking about the attack chain. I am currently looking at MB>GS>IS>EotS with DR thrown in when needed and available. I do have taunt in this build, but remember, this is more for solo than group so I have slotted appropriate to my playstyle. I have moved to sc on S/L/E/N with F/C almost there.
The reason why me and claw had the Fire and ice def is because you rarely see them in most of the baddies you fight. Most of the attacks you see are either s/l and then en/neg. A few of your res is over slotted for res. not to mention your recharge is going to have it where your attacking slower then others. But if you like waiting a bit on some of your attacks, and on your healing power to come up later then go ahead.

I was reworking it a tad and now have:

MB>GS>IS>MB>EotS

Without a break.

I am putting together an alternate build with Hasten, but having trouble getting it to softcap with decent slotting.

Mostly this.

I didn't worry much about recharge, mostly because if I die because my heal did not come back a few seconds sooner I have bigger problems than my recharge being to low.

I actually consider E/N defense more important than S/L on a Dark Armor. It's the set's lowest resistance by a large margin, so it sucks if you don't have enough defense to it. If you don't understand my point here, go fight some Mu without good energy defense and you soon will.

Point taken, looks like the new omni-damage set from the Summer Blockbuster might help this build out, if I can figure where to place it...

Edit: Rethinking the build overall, working on increasing E/N def while also increasing rech slightly. The irony is that if I can figure out a way to perma hasten, that would be sufficient recharge that I wouldn't need hasten...

I took a different approach, went back to the drawing board, and took some of your ideas, and some of my own, and found places to add the recharge while also staying pretty close to softcap on E/N after I place the new universal damage set in DS.

The double aura plus AOE-centric attack chain GS>IS>SR>EotS (without break) should keep this toon as the center of mob attention, while not leaving me panting... Haven't run all the numbers, but thought I should share the monster y'all have helped create...
