There's really no reason it has to be that way, especially with our community. My own experience with PvP has been limited, but when I do engage in it I do so for the most part with players that are able to be competitive without being abusive or childish. It's fun and different when everyone can be mature about it, which sadly isn't the rule especially in open zone PvP (see also: why open world pvp is and always will be a terrible idea).
I enjoy the occasional arena match and I do love me some badges. I'll never be a hardcore PvPer, but that's what brings me to PvP when I choose to do it.

you 1 feature the Devs have put in made just for PvP, and it works like a charm, make the overall PvP experience sooooo much better....
The "ignore as spammer" feature.
Put it to work againt the trash talking, emo kids who get bullied at school or work all day, then get on here and decide to ebullie everyone they see in a PvP zone while touching their private parts......
it makes PvP a MUCH better experience for everyone involved

What could draw me into a PvP zone?
The infrequent desire to unlock an SG badge in order to get a piece of equipment I want to add to a particular base.
I have never had fun with PvP. It's not because ATs were out of balance or some power was stronger than others. It's the way people act. I know most don't act like jerks, but the jerks are all that stand out.
Last time I was in a PvP zone I was there working on a badge. I got jumped by a team of 8. No big deal. That's the risk when you go there. What made it suck was what that team did after. All 8 of them started mocking me in broadcast and tells. I slapped them with ignores and several of them switched toons so they could keep mocking me. I sat next to the entrance and watched as people left the zone until is was just me and the team of 8 there. They couldn't understand why everyone left.
At this point so few people PvP that it's not worth the money or the Devs time to fix it.

I ignore the jerks who just want to brag that their pixelated character is stronger than your pixelated character. Spending 1-2 minutes fighting someone and then the next 15 bragging about it just seems......childish.
But when the other people involved are there to have fun with it, the same as me, I have a good time.
I just refuse to take it seriously. After all, it's only a video game.

Sometimes I get tired of PvE. Even ramping the difficulty slider up on a TF, with the right team composition...I know the outcome.
Dont get me wrong, this game is the best...once in awhile though, I just want the challenge of playing versus something less predictable.
And as everyone has said...you can ignore immature idiots in PvE and that same option exists in PvP.

I recently saw a thread about why we dont pvp.
I was just invited to a pvp zone for badges. It was not good. Maybe it was fail by design who knows...
what i did see is that pvp was just as its always been. Alll the taunts, chats, broadcasts, were all the same... the pvp was 10 on 4 heros on vills then 10 on 4 vills on heros....
what keeps you all pvping?
i just dont get it.
i spent three years + on pvp and its just like i left it broken, lame, boring, annoying, rude, ignorant, offensive, mean, cruel, and actually with racism, bigotry, and mysoginy.
so why bother.
