Incarnate Unlock Bonus
To address this list business once and for all.
I am retired. I agree with all my apparently many and very vocal detractors that I am not funny. I publicly apologize for every attempt at humor I have ever done in the past on these forums as they were quite obviously misdirected and foolhardy. While I am still playing the game itself, I believe this will be my last post on the forums. It is no longer fun here. I had fully intended not to write a good-bye post as they always strike me as self-serving and attention-grabbing. Unfortunately, it appears I can not even make a serious post that wasn't intended to be funny at all without people telling me "that wasn't funny." So be it. Thank you, Memphis Bill, for at least responding to the actual subject of my thread and not turning this into some sort of personal attack. For those who believe this is a joke of some kind, you will be waiting a very long time for the punchline. |

... you ARE more powerful still. You still have an AOE attack, fairly quickly recharging with no crash, you didn't have before. You're just not trivializing the non-incarnate content with it toned down. Hell, "Weak?" You're still a fully slotted out level 50. Since when is that "weak?"
Seriously, when one or two people can basically tell the rest of a task force "Hey, do whatever, we'll clear the missions," *it's overpowered.* And yes, I *have* been on teams - typically ITFs - where we were told JUST that. It's not fun at all to be basically told "You're not needed." It goes back to the days when a tank would herd up a map, a blaster would nuke the result (or the tank would just herd them into a dumpster) and everyone else got to stand around, or you'd get invited to something just so the leader could reveal the map and kick everyone. That wasn't fun either. |
To say the least, sorry to hear that happened to you, or to anyone.
I mean whenever I'm on a team, he have use judgement just to soften up mobs (since we're usually on higher settings and even a tier 4 judgment doesn't one shot them) and then everyone else rushes in and wastes anything left over. Then again, everyone I know also tends to pick radial paths than core.

Not that I agree with the OP's suggestions, or his quitting making lists.

For what it's worth, Steel, I'll miss your lists. I've read quite a few of them and they always made me smile. Try not to let the vocal minority get you down.
Oh, no!
I had been wondering where Steelclaw had been for quite a while now. I *always* found the lists to be at least mildly entertaining, with most being very, very funny.
So sorry that the haters have managed to drive off a talented individual. I'm really gonna miss the lists and I wish there was some way to keep getting them.

It's not the first time Texas has made what can be construed as snide comments towards Steelclaw. No doubt there have been others, as well. |
I made a joking comment that I was waiting for the rest of the list. I based that on Steelclaw's history of posting lists.
I then made another joking comment that I heard they were supposed to be funny. And I've heard that from several people, some in this very thread.
Your tossing your stones in the wrong direction.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I've not made snide comments towards Steelclaw before. I didn't make any here.

IOW: Perfect example of meaning misconstrued thanks to a pure text medium. Though if multiple people are reading it that way, TJ, you may want to pay closer attention to your wording.

It likely won't be the last either.
It IS the internet after all.

1. Interpret (a word or action) in a particular way
So while you may not have MEANT to be snide, obviously multiple people have interpreted what you said as such.
I don't mind crashing nukes & have barely played any incarnate stuff so nothing to say on that front, but I always enjoyed Steelclaw's lists. Always at least amusing, frequently quite funny, periodically hilarious & possessed of an inimitable style that was instantly recognizable and always brought a smile to my face- a rarity on internet forums of any stripe.
As an irascible sort not prone to holding my tongue, I find it genuinely surprising that anyone (ANYONE) would be so put off by them they'd go out of their way to assail their author & drive him into retirement. Pretty lame.
Steel, I say WAFFLE the haters & let your list flag fly.
Anybody mouths off, /ignore.
My guess is you won't be missing much.

Have a wonderful day, everyone.

Steel...
I have one of your hilarious posts in MY SIG!!!!
You're going to have to provide a list of reason for why you'd retire, mate.
Unacceptable, bub...
As for the suggestion... I find that interesting. I think that Nukes are going to be looked at, along with the blaster AT.
Although, I'm not sure the Judgements are as powerful as Nukes. Once you've got them slotted and such, I think the numbers are quite a bit higher.
Still... the Judgement powers are quite powerful and something should be done about Nukes... I, personally, would love to see them just do MORE damage and be more worth the crash.
We'll see.
Come back... Come back... Come back, Steelclaw!!
I loveses your lists.

No real END hit
Fairly quick recharge
Max targets: 16-40
Range: For non PBAOE, 80-120 feet (though some don't list a range - Ion, for instance, has range, but it just gives a radius.)
Nuke:
END crash in many cases.
Longer recharge.
Max targets: 16
Range, typically 60 feet, 90 for Rain of Arrows, for the non PBAOE
If you want a specific example, I've got a level 50 Elec/Elec blaster with both Thunderous Blast slotted and Ion Total Core judgement. Comparing the two:
TB: 2acc/3dam/1endmod
Average damage, 525.42, base 265.80
3.70s activation,
4m8s recharge, base 6m
60 foot range,
25 foot radius,
16 targets max.
Ion Core:
Average, 1841.94
Activation: 2.5s
Recharge: 1m30s
END cost: 20
Acc: 2.0
Range: 80ft
Targets:31
*Base* Ion Judgement:
Damage, 1713.44
Recharge: 1m30s
END: 20
Range: 80ft
Targets: 16
If anyone's nuke should be at least equal to a *base* Judgement, it's a blaster's. It's their primary. They're the ones giving up buffs or defense/resists for a damage secondary. The only real advantage a powerset nuke has is that it's available from 32 (blaster/corruptor) or 38 (defender) on. Meanwhile, *every* AT gets Judgement.

Okay, I had it completely wrong!!
I'd never looked at the numbers and I guess I believed what a few people had said when Judgement first came out...
Wow.
That's nuts.
I thought the damage was a lot lower for the Judgement powers.
And, yeah, I use Thunderous Blast and Ion Judgement... although, I honestly don't use TB much at all...

Thank you very much for sharing those numbers, Memphis Bill. I guess I never looked because I didn't want to find that out!

Also, Steelclaw, you better be reading this...
As a lifelong artist/entertainer myself, I know it can happen... the negative feedback screams the loudest.
All I can tell you is that, in your case, that is folly. Pure nonsense.
You've made so many of us laugh and entertained us. I'm only sorry that you didn't realize that you've pleased way more people than you haven't.
And that's pretty much all we can ever hope to do.
Look at my SIG, you bastage and don't give up!
Gold-plated Steelclaw fan for life.

... you ARE more powerful still. You still have an AOE attack, fairly quickly recharging with no crash, you didn't have before. You're just not trivializing the non-incarnate content with it toned down.

So should IOs be nerfed outside of special "IO Only" content?
To me it seems that IOs are made with just the opposite philosophy, if you have Purples, ATOs, or SBEs they change levels even if you SK or EX.
I would rather see normal PvE content adjustable up to +8 by Fortunata/Hero Corps than Incarnate powers nerfed for PvE content. Maybe even throw in x10 or x12 for additional challenge.
Check out the Repeat Offenders network of SGs! You'll be glad you did.

No fair, Steelclaw... if I'm not allowed to retire, you're not, either. We are both here for the duration. How am I supposed to keep my spirits up when going all-out on a vid deadline without some weirdo wonky post of yours?
