Fire/Fire Build Question

Greetings, all!

I have recently returned to the game and am re-rolling my Fire/Fire blaster. So far he has been much more fun this time around, but I am curious about the later game. As it stands, he is 23 and using common IOs. When he reaches 27, I plan to splurge on level 30 sets to take advantage of bonuses on my way to 50. Below is my projected build. How do you all think it will fare in the later game? Are there any recommendations that you would like to share? Thank you for your input!

If your going to take Mace Mastery, why not grab Web Envelope?

I guess that I had always associated Web Envelope with Web Grenade - which I believe is single target - and gave it no further thought. Having researched it further, I agree that it should be included. This is the new build. Web Envelope has replaced Fire Sword.

This is the build I use. It's softcapped to S/L/E, with less endurance usage than yours. I picked Rain of Fire instead of Fire Breath though, and I grabbed the pet power from Mace Mastery. No Acrobatics either, Mag 8 KB protection through IO's.

As Local Man has said a number of times on the Troller forum, 8 pts of KB protection is a waste. There is very little in the game that 4 pts can't take care of, and if you do end up needing more, its going to be 12 pts.

As to Rain vs Breath, I would usually go Breath for the simple fact that it doesn't cause fleeing like Rain does.

As to the rest of the build, there are a few choices I won't have made but all in all its a workable build. Just kinda wondering why you didn't go for soft-capped Ranged Defense since for my f/f blaster, that's mostly of what defeats me. Most mobs don't last more then one swipe, so S/L isn't so important when you compare it to the few on the edges (and out of your aoe's) who start to unload on you.

But really I would trade all my res/def away if I could get a power that could keep the mobs tight and not fleeing all over the place while I ran thru my aoe chain the second time. Your best defense as a blaster is to defeat them before they defeat you.

Your right. On an range AT like a Controller, or if your hover blasting, 4 pts of KB protection will do you fine. On a /fire Blaster where most of your time is spent in melee, you will get knocked back with only 4 pts.

Your right about RoF fleeing mobs, which is why I have Web Envelope to immobilize the mob.

S/L/E makes up for the overwhelming majority of the attacks. My range def is already at 33%, so when I come across non S/L/E damage, I can merely pop a purple and be on my way.

Thank you for sharing your build, Hatred666. I like it. In your experience, does softcapping for S/L/E outweigh having Permahasten? It appears that with my recharge, I will be able to cycle Fire Blast and Blaze for an uninterrupted ST chain which seems rather valuable for hard targets. With Consume slotted as is, I don't expect endurance to be much of an issue.

Regarding Acrobatics, I took it for the Mag 2 Hold protection as well as the resistance. In practice, is this worthwhile? I see disagreement on the forums, but my experience has me being mezzed only on rare occasions.

Regarding RoF vs. Fire Breath, which is more damaging? I will not be able to acquire Web Envelope for quite some time, and I have no issues with scatter at present.

while you are about getting knocked back more in melee anything that will KB you thru 4 pts of protection will kb you thru 8 pts as well. There are no powers in the game that have KB mags of 4-9.9 its under 4 or 10 or zomg what just hit me.

Mag 4 will stop 90-95% of kb mag 8 stops exactly the same amount and mag 12 stops 99%

This is also my understanding of how kb mag works....

Dead exploding ACUs (as in Lambda, etc) are an exception. I found I was getting ragdolled with just 4 pts, but 8 pts keeps me on my feet. If you're not in melee range when they blow up, it's not worth worrying about, though.
