Am I doing this right? Bots/ff
Well, on a Bots/FF your personal defense won't be as critical as on some other combinations. Your bots will be well beyond the soft cap in normal content, and still over it in incarnate content. So they'll actually be durable enough that you won't need to tank for them unless you want to theoretically. That said, I'm not really sure what else you would build for. There aren't really any critical powers you need to recharge frequently. You could get damage bonuses, but they'd only affect your personal attacks which deal much less damage than your pets anyway. So you might as well get some positional defense. I don't have much time to look at the build right now, but remember that your protector bots also bubble you. So you'll have some extra defense from them too. You should be able to soft cap to positional, but if it gets too expensive for you the other option is to go Mace Mastery for Scorpion Shield or Cold(Ice?) Mastery for Ice Shield. I recommend the former in that scenario so you can softcap S/L/E. But seriously, it will be pretty hard for you to horribly screw up a Bot/FF. It's a pretty solid combo.
So this is my first try at a bots/ff MM. I figured that trying to get the defence to positional was a good idea, but right now im stumped. What else should I build for or am I heading in the right direction.

Level 47: Force of Nature -- RctvArm-EndRdx/Rchg(A), RctvArm-ResDam(48), RctvArm-ResDam/Rchg(48)
IMO, powers to lose are...
force of nature
group fly
pulse rifle blast
power blast
explosive blast
aid other
Field mastery
Get:
Assault
tough
weave
Soul mastery
whatever else
All personal attacks are a waste of power slots on MM's
Focus on defense, lets your minions do the killing. they will do it way better than the mastermind ever will.

Wow...that was supreamly unhelpfull. I already had assault in my build. The rest is not even that benifical for a MM numbers wise I thought.
Now we aren't ready quite yet to let the catgirls out of the bag.... (quote from ex libris)
Luck of the Gamblers are something to grow into. You don't have to spend the influence up front. You can earn them with hero merits via alignment tips or weekly SSA mini-arc runs.
With photon grenade and repulsion bomb, you have four AoE sources of stun that can stack; the protector bots seeker drones and the protector bots photon grenades also are AoE stuns. Repulsion bomb is also AoE knockdown, which I would like even if the power didn't stun.
The extra health and regen mean you can do a 'hot' personal forcefield and hang on while the bots with the extra defense take the heat off you.

Even though the numbers dont look beneficial to you, they are. Defense soft caps at 45%, but then you got incarnate trials, and debuffs to think about. Stacking defense as high as possible will account for some of the what if scenarios.
As for assault in your build already, sorry didnt see it. I would still recommend you ditch the mastermind attacks.
All personal attacks are a waste of power slots on MM's |
Demon or Animal sets both increase the damage of your pets. Demon whip attacks decrease damage resistance and animal attacks buff pets with +damage and a chance for criticals AND does have -defense debuffs. The Interface slot gives your attacks usefull debuffs and DoT. Three of the four Hybrid Slot abilities require you to be attacking for them to work and your pets don't count. And, frankly, if you're a force field mastermind just take attacks so you can stay awake through the missions. Boredom is the greatest enemy of the /FF MM... well... that and Nemesis. Oh you will learn to hate Nemesis.
For robots, you can increase your damage significantly by taking Mu Mastery for the Electrifying Fences and since force field is boring as all hell I took Static and Thunder just to have something to DO. Once I had access to them I skipped out on the rifle powers because Mu's attacks are far better.
Anyway. Assault Bot's Incendiary missils create burn patches that do significant damage.... sadly enemies either run of the patches or are knocked out of them by the knockback robot pets do. It's some TERRIBLE power design, yes. Electrifying fences stops both those problems since not only does it immob but it also cancels knockback keeping enemies in the burn patches.

As far as personal attacks, photon grenade, force bolt, and repulsion bomb definitely give the mastermind worthwhile things to do. The knockdown of repulsion bomb also assists in keeping the targets in the burn patches longer.

This is fast becoming an outdated mind set.

Yep tis why I got the basic plunker attack. Gives me SOMETHING to do when im not healing the pets with aid other or repair. Ill consider screwing around with adding photon and repulsion together and seeing where it might go.
Now we aren't ready quite yet to let the catgirls out of the bag.... (quote from ex libris)
Personal attacks are still a waste. Unless you dont plan on ever incarnating or becoming a veteran.
Judgement, and veteran powers like black wand and nemesis staff give you plenty to do. And are un-slotable. So you can take all those powers you picked for something to do, and turn it into something useful.

The reservation I have with Bots/FF character is specifically with two powers: Photon grenade and Repulsion Bomb. Both 'attacks' are potent mitigation tools. The photon grenade will stack with the protector bots' stuns: photon grenades and seeker drones. Repulsion bomb now has juicy knock-down and an additional chance to stun (stacking again with the stuff mentioned above). Creatures stunned and/or knocked-down don't attack.
Both attacks also take some excellent sets for recharge, various positional defenses, recovery, etc...
I also notice that in Psylenz's build edit, the bots are defense soft-capped in regular content with one protector bot bubble (tier 1 and 3 actually get 2 bubbles apiece):
17.72% (deflection/insulation shield)
11.74% (dispersion bubble)
4.11% (Maneuvers)
7.5% (1 prot.bot bubble)
5% (Edict of the Master unique)
-------------------------------------
46.07% range/melee and 56.07% to AoE from Command of the Mastermind ATO (could be 61% if it were upgraded)
Tier 3 and Tier 1 bots thus have 53.57% to range and melee and 63.57% to AoE as presently built.
So, the bots are taken care of as much as they can be as regards their defense numbers.
The mastermind herself has a def rating (with one protector bot shield) of:
28.1% melee
38.1% ranged
41.2% AoE
Altogether, it's not bad for a build that isn't chasing defense numbers. Sure, the OP could get soft-capped herself, at least to the range position, without much effort. Could also do it without getting rid of any of the attacks.
Finally, the existence of incarnate powers doesn't help your position as much as you may first think. Judgment AoEs are on a 90 second static cooldown, so this is not exactly something the mastermind will be spamming. Also, the interface powers make even mastermind attacks pretty freakin' potent. Hell, the reactive radial flawless interface increases force bolt's damage ten times. Should musculature be alpha-slotted, these attacks become significantly more valuable (and much stronger than the veteran attacks) without any additional slotting in the individual power.
Check the mids - math don't lie. Once IOs and incarnate powers get into the picture, you can do stupid/crazy things with a build -- breaking 'accepted wisdom -- that would have been unthinkable even 18 months ago.
Mastermind attacks, by themselves are pretty underwhelming. However, isn't an attack preferable to doing nothing?
|
There are other secondaries to keep your pets and teammates safe, but give the MM some offensive or debuff powers to keep them busy .
Himself actually
And yeah even with only one attack, I do get pretty bored just watching the bots go pew pew.
