Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Suggestions?

So I brought it up here, but figured I'd start a new thread to focus on actual players' experiences in case someone else has the same Q later. What have you tried? What should one avoid for gaming (the need to be able to press lots of keys at once accurately). Did you stay wireless? Why/Why Not?

In general I'd stay away from wireless mice/keyboards for gaming

They tend to have longer response times than wired versions - how much so will vary and also finding your mouse or keyboard battery failing at the wrong time can make a severe crimp in your game - not to mention your character's health.

For many years I used a cheap PS/2 RF wireless keyboard and mouse. There was no human-discernable latency, even playing high-click RTS and FPS (which were my favored games of the time). I also used it for several years with CoH, and never an issue (CoH is not a game where fast response time matters all that much). It would be months between replacements of the batteries (the computer side of it actually came with a battery charger, and enough batteries so there was always one set charged).

I've also used a more recent logitech wireless laptop mouse. I didn't use it enough to get a feel for there being any latency, but it didn't feel like it. The battery in this mouse goes literally years without being replaced, and has an absurd range (a couple dozen feet).

I don't believe for a second the complaints people have about latency. They will of course have a slower response time, but, you'll also have a slower response time when using a keyboard with a longer cable... no one tells you not to buy mice/keyboards with longer cables.

While passing by the options at work, this came to mind as well. I figured the alternative would be to run a USB extension cable (likely with a powered hub), but I became concerned about reaching the maximum USB length. Granted, they're only going to be USB 1.1 (low powered) devices when it comes down to it, but cable length does matter after a point. The biggest concern not necessarily being miniscule latency, but the ability to do things like hold multiple keys down and not overload the buffer (or worse, lose the command packet altogether). I've actually seen some with much of this taken into account as they're geared towards gaming as well, hense the price of half of them.

Unless the response time is noticeably really long past that of a wired version(a full second or more longer, which most are well below) then wireless keyboards and mice are just fine for gaming, especially MMOs that are not "twitch based".

I currently use a wireless optical trackball mouse from Logitech that seems absolutely as responsive and reliable as the previous wired version.

I use a wireless mouse and a wired keyboard. As you might expect, I don't move the keyboard around much.

A wireless mouse is absolutely fine for gaming. Latency has NEVER been noticeable (I'm on my 3rd wireless mouse). Batteries dying at a bad time is a negligible issue - most mice will flash a red LED when the batteries are getting low and you have a couple of DAYS to get new ones and have them sitting on your desk ready to go.

A good reason, in my opinion, to have a wireless mouse is that a cord restricts the mouse movements and you end up positioning yourself and moving in a way to accommodate the mouse. This is backwards and a recipe for repetitive stress injuries.

I love my wireless Logitech mouse. (MX1100) Lots of buttons to program that saves a lot of time and clicking.

My keyboard is a Logitech G11 (wired) with 18 G-keys. (I used to have the G15, but found I didn't really need the LCD display.)

These both have worked beautifully for me in and out of CoH. This mouse converted me from being an avid trackball user.

Funny enough, I think I've settled on the Performance MX mouse as I started looking at the natural contour of my hand (because of the arthritis restrictions) and it seems to fit great. A little higher in $$, but I'm looking for a build to last 5-10yrs so it'll be worth it. I'm thinking that the KB will be the K750-Solar.

I always prefer slim keyboards, the ones with less travel distance for the keys(like a laptop, short keys). Those are great for easier use with fat fingers or clumsy fingers. I don't have to really hammer the keys to type either.

I currently use the Razer Lycosa and have never seen a better keyboard. I just wish it was water proof so that I could clean it easily, and the coating that shapes the letters and numbers didn't wear off(asd looks like blob blob blob right now).

I will never go back to a mouse that needs a surface anymore as well. I love my trackball mouse. I would replace it with a touchscreen if I could though. Although, that would require games that are coded to take advantage of a joystick with a small joystick also available with the touchscreen for best results.

Anyway, I'm never changing from trackballs and slim keyboards as long as I use a keyboard and mouse.

Edit:
Somebody should tell Logitech to hurry up and apply their many extra button design, for gaming or whatever, to their trackball mice. Trackball mice are even better for multiple keys than other mice because you don't need to use your fingers to hold and move the mouse, just the one to move the trackball. I would buy one in a second.
