Power Animations: Heightened Senses & Tough

The Heightened Senses power from Willpower animates with a low sweep kick rather than the "look left and right" animation it should have. This also happens with some Mystic Fortune buffs.

This glitch has been in the game for a while now. Any word on fixing it?

Further, if it's so easy to replace animations that even a glitch can do it, WHY hasn't the animation for the Fighting pool power Tough been replaced with something less visually and aurally horrifying yet?

This may seem like a low priority issue, but Tough and the related screamy chest-beating really bother me to a point where I take extra steps to avoid that animation playing (activate toggle when running, switch it off before zoning). The Heightened Senses animation used to be the "top" thing animating after zoning, so Tough wouldn't play, but now that it's bugged, there's screaming and chest-beating on every zoning.

Since quality of life improvements are being worked on, could this not be added to the list with some priority? Tough is more or less a must-have power but the animation is so hideous it's starting to erode my enjoyment of the game.

One of the Nijitsu toggles does it too (the second one IIRC, too lazy to check the name), which honestly looks cooler with that animation.

As for why the Power Pools don't have customization yet? You're right, it's not a huge technological hurdle to do that, considering we already have both color and (limited) animation customization in the main powersets. The main issue is developing an interface to do it, since Power Pools aren't granted at character creation. Incarnate powers (those that can be customized) let you customize any of the powers per slot once you unlock it, but Incarnate powers aren't structured the same as powersets and power pools (no respeccing, can have multiple crafted albeit not slotted). So do you just make it so every character has the option to customize powers from pools that may never use? Is that even possible? It's a development issue and the devs know we want it, it just needs all the kinks worked out of it. Think of how long it took for us to get regular customization.

And after writing all that, I realize you're not asking for customization, you're asking for wholesale replacement, so that answer is even easier -- because some people like the animation for Tough the way it is. I honestly don't care one way or the other (although if you swapped the animations for Tough and Super Strength's Rage I wouldn't complain), but I'm sure plenty of folks do like it and would scream bloody murder if it were changed.

Oh, I'd love to have full customization of pool powers. No more flaming hands for Hasten or glowing jetstream wrists and ankles for Combat Jumping.

I'd be willing to settle for the most horrible thing replaced with something bland but okay. I don't know anyone who actually likes the way Tough looks (and sounds). Some are neutral to it - mostly men. Many loathe it with passion - mostly women. I guess it works for Tarzan, not so much for Jane.

DarkGob, Incarnate powers aren't granted at character creation either, but they have customization options listed.
They just need to use what they did for them.

I surmise the real difficulty is separating the color from the animations so that they can change the color, or replacing the animations and effects with identical ones they already made customization for in the power sets.
The trouble is all the unique effects and animations in the pools.

Try these:

/macro FXoff "SuppressCloseFx 1$$SuppressCloseFxDist 255"
/macro FXon "SuppressCloseFx 0"

The first macro creates a button that, when clicked, turns off most of the visual effects associated with various powers. Your powers only, can't turn off the Hasten on someone else's hands.

The second macro creates a button that turns the effects back on.

I'm also noticing people doing a weird sweeping kick animation while buffing or activating toggles. I haven't taken the time to ask them what they activated, but hopefully those powers have already been mentioned in this thread.

Regarding pool customization, it requires a lot of different teams to work in concert. Not just the design and the art, but it appears to also be no small technological feat.

Most importantly, this isn’t a task that requires only FX time. To implement these options into the powers customization screen, we need UI and code time. It’s true that we’ve already added an additional heading to this screen for Incarnate powers, but that was just one heading. We will need to add several headings to the powers customization screen to implement pool powers customization. And by several, I mean more than the screen can currently support. We also need code to help us address the question of whether all of the possible ancillary, patron and regular pools are visible in the screen at character creation, or whether they are added later in the game as you choose your powers. The first option will require code time, and the second option will require more code time. Then we'll need a UI artist to revise the powers screen and make sure it's as readable and attractive as possible. [...]

I just wish they would fix it for Mystic Fortune and Heightened Senses; the rest can stay.
