Maximizing Containment w/Mind Kin

I dusted off one of my old Controllers that I used to love on teams as I took powers that would maximize control and support over damage. However, as the game has evolved I felt like that was not a useful approach so I started over slotting for damage instead of control. My question now is about strategy: how do I maximize containment with Mind since the primary soft control is sleep?

Right now I've been trying to get into a routine of Mass Hypnosis > Fulcrum Shift > Terrorize > Psychic Tornado and then repeat. While Mass Hypnosis comes up really fast giving me a safe followup containment-boosted Terrorize, the Psychic Tornado doesn't get the benefit (unless I alternate MH > Terr > MH > Tornado)

Any tips?

Oh, and I'm not necessarily as concerned about the build/enhancements as much as attack chain/approach. I feel like Mind Control is right there as far as soloing but there has to be an optimal way to make it work.

Your options for aoe containment are total domination, mass hypnosis, TK, and fissure from stone mastery. That's really it. Terrorize does more damage than psi tornado, so it's the better choice to get containment on if you have to pick. Mass hypnosis and terrify have about the same base cooldown while tornado recharges about 2x as fast, so there's not really much point in saving psi tornado until mass hypnosis is up.
If you really focus on recharge you could get total domination and mass confusion down to about 60s recharges and then alternate them between groups for confusion damage and containment damage.

You can consider picking up the Primal APP for Power Boost and do Power Boosted Total Domination. A decent IO build will get you Containment every ~70 seconds for about 50 seconds. Adjust mission difficulty to about where you kill the last enemy as TD comes up again for the next spawn.

The best solution I have found is

Mass Hyp > aoe attack > Total Dom > aoe attack

This lets you get off both Terrify and your APP AoE. Typical permahasten builds will have 55s-65s recharge on total dom. It's a glacially slow kill rate compared to top-tier builds, but at least it's something.

Add a DoT interface and PPM procs in both your AoEs and Total Dom for best results.

Total Dom > Terrify > APP AoE Attack > some single target attacks until Terrify recharges > Mass Hypnosis > Terrify.

As Oedipus Tex mentioned, Power Boost may let you get in a second Terrify before the AoE hold runs out. This is one of several reasons that the Primal APP is a good choice for a Mind Controller.

I think you mean that it may let you get in more APP aoe attacks, since those recharge quick enough that Mass Hyp cannot keep up with them, but I get what they are trying to say now.

This improved my opinion of Primal APP mind controllers.

I seem to remember that Psi-Nado didn't do its damage until the animation hit the enemies... a second or so delay depending on how far away you are. I have, on many occasions, used MH->PT->Terrorize and leveraged it so that PT and Terrorize hit at the SAME TIME and they BOTH got containment damage. However, I haven't gotten this to work lately, so it may have been considered a bug or exploit and fixed. But maybe try hitting enemies from maximum range?
