WM/SD build help, new guy could use a hand

Hey all,

been leveling my WM/SD and have checked forums for tips and ideas.
Since i'm finally getting close to 50 I decided to sit down and find a build to shoot for.

Prolly cant afford it atm, but its nice to have something to work for.

plan is to eventually at least get some pvp IO's and squeeze them in somehow, shouldn't really be that hard to fit them, getting them is another story.

Hover is mostly a fluff power wich I want, and i slotted it so I dont have to move at a snails pace. guess i can loose the slow resist on it, but it seems kinda nice, no? Ninja run/hover/jetpack for getting around the maps.

guess I'm looking for some feedback and what improvements that can be made.

I'm not really rich but managed to hoard around 1 bill, and I still have 4 levels to go til i'm 50. (this is my first char)

But if someone wanna post an expensive build go ahead, its good to have something to work towards even if its gonna take a while.

Also have no clue on the incarnate stuff, been reading about it but havent really made up my mind about anything. Guess it would be nice with the healing one at least since i dont have any healing power.
So if anyone could suggest something about wich to pick that would mesh nicely with this build.

Hi Sthorm,

First, welcome to the boards! I'm certainly not the most knowledgeable poster on the board, but I'll give it a try. First off, I leveled a WM/SD Brute a while back- before the combination was available to scrappers. I'll link the build thread here:

I ended up using Twilight Snow's build (from Post #3) and it works great. Well enough that I haven't bothered to respec my WM/SD into anything more expensive and it was cheap enough that I put it together through what I earned by leveling and some minimal marketeering. There are other builds in the thread as well that you can take a look at.

There will be some differences with a scrapper, notably in the epic pool, but it's nothing super-crucial to the build and there might be some good tips in there for you too. I can't access Mids where I am right now to look at your build in detail.

Hopefully this helps a bit or gives you some ideas to work off of.

ok, gotten to know my WM/SD a bit more, its still my first char but think I got a decent setup.

Gotten 2 pvp IO's and all the non purple IO's I can think of, so the next step would be to add purples and/or the scrapper ATO.

I've got plenty of defense, prolly too much I guess, but it helps when I get debuffed.

So where to start, I must say I feel a bit clueless, scrapper strike looks nice(have 3 catalysts), but where to put it, and when/if I slot purples, the plan is to dont use the dam IO and replace it with something else to even out stats? Main problem I guess is I dont know wich powers to slot.

As a sidenote I'm not too sure about hasten, I feel the difference when its on, but tbh I dont really turn it on that much, have active defense on auto so cant have hasten :/

Just a quick look at your build based on your too much defence comment

You have more than 45% to all positions, which could be considered too much for normal content, though I like to have a bit of leeway with defence debuffs so unless you had to sacrifice anything for that last bit of defence I think it looks nice.

I also noticed that you took the Agility alpha which boosts you to just over 50% against incarnate content, I assume you plan on using Barrier to cover the remaining 9%, but personally (And this is a goal for a higher budget) I would try to aim for having 54% to all when you include the alpha slot, so that with Barrier you can always be capped against incarnate stuff (Though that needs to T4 Barrier which is a pain to get).

If you drop the Kismet you are still at 95% chance to hit +3's in every power other than Pulverise, which is because Touch of Death is a level 40 set.

Personally I would move a few slots, lose the Kismet (For a Winters gift slow protection) and gain a bit of recharge:

That is just working on your build, I haven't looked into attack chains etc because I don't know enough about War Mace.

Another thought: If you use Hover for combat movement then you could drop Combat Jumping for Maneuvers which gives a bit more defence, then that would probably let you reslot a few of your attacks for recharge instead of defence, though endurance would take a hit but I would hope it is covered because of Body Mastery.

I haven't time to have a proper look though.

Here's mine, only slight differences. I really hate missing, so I went for tactics instead of build-up. Defensive Maneuvers is a mule for kismet, you don't need to run it for the 45% defense. I may restructure the slots out of OwtS and give those slots to get more endurance and replace with a Steadfast KD Prot, but we'll see. I wanted >12 KB Prot and this gives me the added resists while it's up. I don't really use the power in-game, but it occurs to me I could use it to get endurance while conserve power is on recharge. Using those two in tandem would create a nice juggle of endurance that's never occurred to me until just now

I digress.

I'm no expert in specialized min/maxed builds so i tend to keep my builds as simple as possible.

When on weapon sets, I always go for Body Mastery because I hate the redraw and in non toggle mez protection sets, I try to avoid Hasten to keep things as simple as possible. I know Hasten makes builds more efficient and all that, in this particular case, there are no high recharge heals or stuff like that, the longest recharging power is Shield Charge and I can perfectly live with its recharge being 7 - 8 seconds longer.

This is how I'd like a WM/Shield, I'm sure there are more efficient builds out there, but as I said, I like it nice and simple:
