NCLauncher deleted every file on my desktop (Mac)

Hi all,

Last night, every file on my desktop was somehow deleted. I believe this was due to a bug in NCLauncher.app. Anyone else have anything similar happen?

One of the NCLauncher log files -- corresponding to the time of deletion -- contains the following.

Launcher Started Normally.
Checking For Launcher Updates...
Loading self patch data
Installing (null)
Start Downloading URL From Game Item!
File Final Location: /Users/bwj/Desktop

File Already Existed! File: /Users/bwj/Desktop
Starting Download: (null)
Download FAILED! Error - bad URL (null)

Download was was abroted due to Error!
ERROR DOWNLOADING FILE!
ERROR: Download failed! Error - bad URL (null)
NCLauncher windows closing!

NCLauncher windows closing!

It sounds like you have a virus that prevented the NCSoft launcher from being able to download(maybe to prevent downloaded software that could possibly kill the virus, as some viruses do) and then deleted all your desktop items.

He's got a Mac. I find it highly unlikely that a virus is involved.

Don't be so sure these days. They're getting targeted more. (Which is still many orders of magnitude less than Windows, yes.) However, I'm not as up on the current batch of Mac-targeting viruses and their behaviours.

I've no idea what would trigger that, but, you should be able to go into Time Machine and restore the files (possibly sans the last couple hours of changes before they were deleted). Seeing as you got so many (null)s, it sounds like the configuration somehow got trashed (again, no clue why or how that would trigger it deleting random files).


I kind of doubt it was a virus... OS X does get them, but they're primarily scam-ware (fake AV software has been the biggest).
