Would appreciate any actual technical information that could be offered to help in trying to troubleshoot.

Start with Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread that is stickied in this forum section.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I think that's the same system my parents have.

Did you download the NCSoft Launcher recently or are you trying an older one? Also the launcher does go through patches itself, a process that will launch a copy of itself as part of the patching process. I've seen firewall software get confuse and block the launcher since it's version number changes, sometimes several times during the patching process depending how many launcher patches you miss.

You could always grab a recent copy of the installer from either your account management page or from the main City of Heroes website.

Have you tried running the launcher as admin?

Also, are you running CoH Helper as admin?

I'll wait for the HiJackThis log before posting again.

Give the HiJack This report and such that everyone else is asking for, but go ahead and checkout my links below on installation as it may be of some help and/or even avoid the permissions issue.

Edit: Just curious, what's with all the disc/media drives and virtual drives?

I can answer this, it's the 15 in 1 memory card reader that's found in all(?) HP tower models.

I can't say anything more here.

It would cause too many problems.

Good luck.

Ah, that makes sense. I haven't seen it since I last worked on Kodak Picture Makers at work (because I could and 3rd party techs tend to screw it up worse).

Do you need all those toolbars? I would do a scan with malwarebytes

Yes.

In the future, please do not delete your posts when a question is solved. It's in bad form because it means no one else in the future can look back at this thread for help. Since you solved it yourself (at least I presume, since I can't see what was written), it would also be nice to post what you did to solve it, again for future reference if it's at all genericable.
