Possessing an AV
This thread had some useful info: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=285678
Basically, you need to be perma-dom, and be able to cast Possess 10 times (so, animation time + recharge time) faster than the first casting of Possess wears off.
According to http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Purple_Patch, an enemy +4 levels above you only gets 48% of the duration of any control you hit them with.
Theoretically, it may be possible, but I don't have the time to crunch the numbers right now. With the info I just gave you, you should be able to determine it.
i already plan to make my dark dark dom compete with my mind fire dom, ive put my mind dom through the paces and solo'd the ITF and duo'd the LRSF with him and i think i should be able to do the same with my dark dom once i get him to perma dom status
my mind dom has enough rech to stack almost mag 85-90 confuse on a baddy fairly easily i think my dark dom will be able to do similar although he might not be able to get past 85 with how long possess animation time is
Thanks for the reference, Blue_Fenix.
It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to perma-confuse a 54 AV. 2.508 arcanatime animation, 2.08s recharge, 61s of mag 6 confuse. (2.508 + 2.08)*10= 45.58.
But, I'm not sure how to account for the two separate confuse durations that domination provides, but at a minimum, it doesn't look likely, especially considering the purple patch.
oh well, back to the drawing board.
I'm not super knowledgeable about this subject, per the wiki purple triangles adds mag 50 protection. I'm not sure if this is added to the base 3, or if it overwrites it. With the numbers posted, you would have a 4.588 cycle time and a duration of 61 s of mag 3 base, then dom gives 92 seconds of another mag 3. Not sure where the 10x comes from, you would either need 9x mag 6 or 17-18x mag 3. Adding in the purple patch, that gives 29.28 base mag 3, and 44.16 seconds of dom mag 3.
So I think the best way to look at it is to look at the tail end. 44 seconds after your first cast, the last 3 pts of the dom mag will fade. So you have to get over 50 or 53 before that. Of course latency will impact, but first I'll figure without that. In the 44 seconds, you could cast possess 9x. So you would have 30 mag worth of confuse from the domination mag 3 casts, IE first cast, plus the next 9 within 44 seconds. That make sense? Then we figure how much mag we have still sticking from the base mag, which only lasts 29 seconds. That means at the 44s mark, you only have the base mag remaining from the last 6 casts. So this gives another 18 mag of confuse. Total is mag 48 confuse. Not quite enough. If you managed to get the cycle time down under 4.4 seconds, it might be enough, though I'm not sure since I don't know if the required mag is 50 or 53. If it's 50 then 4.4 seconds cycle time is enough. If it's 53 then you need it down to 4.14. This all assumes no latency, which is somewhat unlikely.
Reviewing the numbers again, I now see where Blue_Fenix's 10x comes from. 9x isn't quite enough when you add both partial base and domination mag. 10x is enough, if you include the full dom value, and partial base mag. So his comment about casting it 10x before the first wears off is assuming permadom and using the full domination duration. Modified by purple patch of course.
So using his 10x number, and 4.588 cycle, you would need to get the duration of possess up to 96 seconds with domination. Or you need to get the cycle time down to 4.4 seconds. Or some combination of those. I have to say that looking into this has helped me learn a bit more about how these things interact.
Nice post, Vysires. One important point is that base protection for Elite Bosses and AVs is actually 6 points. Then add the 50 for Purple Triangles of Doom, for a total of 56, which is just a little more than 6 x 9. Thus, 10 castings minimum.
But a plain even-con AV should be perma-possesable under permahasten/permadom 6slotted with Coercive Persuasion, right? I have never tried this and think it could be fun to try with my dark/dark.

To confuse, the AV you need 54 magnitude (50 PToD + 3 base) to reduce their mezz protection to -1 at which point they'll be confused.
Awesome post, Vysires. Makes sense to me now between what you and Blue_Fenix posted. Sounds like this project is still a wash unfortunately as even if I somehow manage to perma-confuse the 54 AV, I'm going to be spamming possess so often that I'd never have a chance to attack or do anything else.

EBs have a base protection of 6, but AVs only have a base protection of 3. You can sleep an AV with a non-domination powered Mesmerize (mag 3.5).

Like ketch said, AVs only have boss (mag 3) protections. Without additional powers stacking on top of the base and purple triangles, anything above mag 53 will affect them (it doesn't have to be 54, it just probably will be since it's usually in stacks of mag 3).
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

So, I'm trying to turn my dark/psi into an AV killer at high levels of difficulty (i.e. +4 without my incarnate lvl boosts) which seems to turn on whether I can get enough stacks of Possess onto a +4 AV enough to perma-confuse straight through the purple triangles and the purple patch. Anyone with perhaps experience with an IO'd mind/ dom know if this can be reliably accomplished? I've read accounts of mind/ doms perma confusing the LRSF heroes, but they are only lvl 53.
