Ancillary / Epic pools?

I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I have a Stone/Stone tank that’s made it to level 41 and now I need to pick an Ancillary / Epic pool or I could continue with the regular pools and go with Fighting for some Tough and Weave.

Due to my play style, in order of preference, I’m looking at:

  1. Earth (Concept)
  2. Fighting (Tough & Weave)
  3. Soul Mastery (Gloom and Darkest Night)
  4. Energy (Physical Perfection)
  5. Pyre (Damage)

According to my level 50 plan (without the above pools), I’m going to run out of Granite with:
  • 43.2% smash/lethal defense
  • 31.4% energy/negative defense
  • 42.9% psionic defense
  • 35.1% fire/cold resistance

Do I need more defense/resistance or should I go with more damage/defuff?

I wanted to ask what other Stoners were picking up in the late game and on into the Incarnate. Are you trying to mitigate damage or create it?

Earth Mastery is possibly the worst Tanker Ancillary pool for many sets. Your first choice is between an Immob (which you likely don't need or want, since KB would be suppressed on the enemy you hit with it) or a PBAoE sleep, which will break as soon as Mud Pots goes off next. Other pools at least get a hold, which is useful, as one of their choices. Next up is either the hold, finally, or quicksand, which doesn't do much for you at high levels. Stalagmites is the worst AoE in the Ancillaries. Twice the recharge, less damage, and causes mod wandering. YES!

So I'd go with the Fighting Pool.

I take it that is with all the other powers in your build?

Ok, thanks for the input.

Is the Soul Mastery with Darkest Night any good? Have you used it and did you like it?

I could see placing the toggle on a hard target to help with incoming damage and a pseudo defense increase with the -tohit.

Are you asking about the above numbers? If so then yes, that is Mid's level 50 slots on a level 41 build. The actual numbers in game are different at level 41 and are all the stone tank powers outside of Granite (Rock Armor, Crystal Armor, etc.).

My Stone/Stone isn't there yet; however, based on my electric armor/energy melee tanker, I recommend fighting too and if possible grab Conserve and Physical Perfection from energy pool. These two powers alone have enhanced my game play and fighting style. Just a thought.

Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.

I would not say that Earth is the worst Tanker epic. Crumbs all my Tanks could use it and be happy but concept is concept. There would be some stuff they could do that they can't do now with the epics they got for sure. I have Stone/Stone/Earth it will do things other Stonetanks aren't capable of doing but we all know powers add flexibility. People just need to work out the what's, where's and when's for themselves.

As a player of all types of Tankers, I like to tank by different means, and I like to live by a concept and have it challenge me. I'd put Soul on a Dark (well it'll help a tonne) and then never take Soul on anything else. Everything else would have to get the same stuff done, regardless of team make up as much as possible with whatever they get.

I'd say that the Leviathons the worst epic. They are what you make of them though.
