DA mission arcs bugged; Ends after Max.
The game also will not allow you to start a new arc if you have too many arcs open, even if you don't have an active mission in them or if you have outleveled them.
Did you do Max's personal mission? If not, it may be considering that a still open arc and may be putting you over the limit of open arcs.
Something to try at least.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.

So what you're saying is that I'm being forced to play the personal missions. TERR-IF-FIC. Thank you, Texas, I'll try them tonight and see if it helps.

Really? They're like 3 minutes long, any of them.
The personal missions are a way to bridge the gap between the game and comic books. After all, you don't see Batman in every single panel of one of his comics, do you?
In effect, they're a way to see the other half of the story as it happens while your character is busy kicking butt. As far as I know, they're all non-combat. It's not you sitting around and letting someone else be the star. (In fact, all the ones I've done so far have the NPCs discussing your character's deeds.)

I'm playing a game with a character that I created. Why should I be required to pause that in order to see content from a comic book that I have nothing to do with?
I'll try them. I have to, apparently. But I am not pleased about this.

They help tell the story of what is going on in DA, and the progression of the story arcs that YOUR character is running. They are all single, non-combat missions. Even if you think you are playing YOUR story, there is still the story with the reasoning of why/how you are able to do X for Y contact.
They are great little missions, that also award badges.
Edit: And if you want to be technical, it is not YOUR character, but the property of NCSoft. So if they tell you that you have to play a fuzzy bunny mission using The Easter Bunny as some way to tie some content together, guess what.... You are going to play that fuzzy bunny mission.

No, I didn't do any of the personal missions. I'm not interested in seeing the story of people who aren't my character. I thought the entire point of a superhero game is that *you* get to be the hero, not some NPC.
So what you're saying is that I'm being forced to play the personal missions. TERR-IF-FIC. Thank you, Texas, I'll try them tonight and see if it helps. |
What I'm saying is that it is possible that it is being treated as an open arc, which to my way of thinking would be a bug.
Since you are given the reward table before you are offered the Personal Story mission, the arc should be complete at that point. If it is not counting it as complete, I'd /bug it.
Since I didn't run any of the arcs during Beta without running the Personal Story of that contact, I'm not sure if it is counting as open or not.
I'm merely suggesting a way of testing to see if that is indeed what is happening.
If it resolves the issue and lets you access Praetor Duncan, file a /bug report.
If running the Personal Story for Max or one of the earlier DA contacts doesn't let you access Praetor Duncan's missions, file a /bug report and note that you tried running the Personal Story missions to make sure it wasn't being counted as an open arc.
Either way, report back here so we can know if it fixed it or not and whether you found a different solution that resolved it.
I's always better to know what happened so we can advise others in the future.

I'm not saying you are forced to do anything. Please don't try to put words in my mouth.

So I *am* being forced to do those NPC missions. But you're saying that it may be a bug.
Well, I've already /bugged this problem, so if they ever get back to me I'll let them know what the problem was. Meanwhile this forum has the solution -- thank you!

It "should" not count toward the arc. "Should" meaning I agree. It doesn't need to be part of it seeing that you get the reward before you get that mission. We will see how this turns out because i see more and more people complaining about this in the coming weeks.
BTW the way you word things is kinda irritating. Reminds me of your Avatar. I almost didn't want to finish reading the rest of the post because I was annoyed. Keep your anger to yourself. Some of us like to read why we are doing these things or simply just like the story.

Of all the things to get upset about.
You were 100% correct, Texas. Some of the personal story missions (Heather Townsend and Mu'Vorkhan) were part of the contact arcs. Both of those contacts had the arc icon in my contact list. I did their personal missions and was able to proceed to Praetor Duncan's missions.

As far as I know you are Not "forced" to play the personal stories. I haven't found that to be the case on my characters.
Wavicle, Energy/Energy Blaster, dinged 50 in Issue 4, summer of 2005.
@Wavicle, mostly on the Justice server.
You are not forced to play the personal stories, this is true. However, not playing the personal stories means that contact is taking up a story arc slot, which are limited (but not as limited as they used to be!)

I took my Ice/Dev blaster into the Dark Astoria missions. Soloed my way through them without a problem until I got to Max, the Malta contact. I did the first Max mission -- Break Director 11 out of the Zig. Then I figured that was enough of the side missions (and I didn't like it that Malta was sending me against PPD), so I went for the big fight against the Knives of Vengeance. Defeated them handily.
When I got out of the mission and called Max, I got an appropriate mission end text about Max having disappeared (but I could do his personal mission if I wished), and that Praetor Duncan was now my contact.
Praetor Duncan is not on my list of active contacts. She is on my list of inactive contacts. I called her, and she says something to the effect of, "You shouldn't call me when you're way too busy already". That sounds like a 'I have too many missions' text. But I only have one other mission, a tip mission.
Since Praetor Duncan won't speak to me, I cannot progress any more on the DA plot arcs.
I've already /bugged this. Just posting it here in case someone has already had this problem and knows of a solution.
