I have been away over a year. I bought a "Superpack" with saved up Paragon Points. I got a few random items. What does a Catalyst do?

Thanks?

I think I'm not off base here, but if I am, I'm sure someone will correct me.

I believe that is used to enhance the effectiveness of ATOs. If I recall, it turns the standard ATO into the equivalent of a 'purple' Origin to make the on par with purple IOs.

To put it simply, it upgrades any ATO.

If I'm not sadly mistaken, they are worth a fairly hefty amount at present.

That's correct. A Catalyst can convert a standard Archetype Enhancement into a superior version of the same enhancement. Superior versions get the same scale of enhancement as similar purple enhancements would, and get the same size of set bonuses as well. (Recharge bonus goes to 10%, for example.)

They are currently Character Bound (the Catalysts, not the ATOs) and would only become Account Bound at BEST.

To the OP: If you have a level 50 character who would like to upgrade an ATO to a Superior Version, claim the Catalyst and enter your enhancement window and select a slotted ATO (much like how you select a slotted SO for combining) and select the Enhancement Catalyst, which will appear on the left-hand side of your screen.

IMPORTANT: After upgrading an ATO, it will be account-bound and cannot be sold. From what I understand, you CAN Email the enhancement to yourself, but not others. In addition, Superior ATOs cannot be slotted by characters below level 50 (or non matching ATs, obviously).

Deamus the Fallen - 50 DM/EA Brute - Lib
Dragos Bahtiam - 50 Fire/Ice Blaster - Lib

Formally Dragos_Bahtiam - Abbreviate to DSL - Warning, may contain sarcasm

Thank you for the replies folks. If I understand correctly I can "combine" a catalyst with, say, an IO enhancement. If I were to combine on with a level 50 Obliteration: Damage, how or how much would it improve it?

Catalysts are specific to ATOs. Basically they take their enhancement modifier from that of normal sets to that of purple sets. You can't use them on inventions at all.

What you can do is use enhancement boosters. Those have the same effect but on inventions; a level 50 uncommon or rare invention boosted to +5 has purple values. A purple invention boosted to +5 has values that are unspeakable and sexy.

The Catalysts are very valuable to you if you are delving into the world of ATOs. But use caution on how you build. When acquired the ATOs are a set of 6, "Orange level" enhancers. When you Catalyse 1 you have a set of 5 "Orange" and 1 "Purple". Some people specifically Catalyze three to get the 2 and 3 enhancer set bonuses twice, once at the Orange level, and once at the Purple level. Good Luck. Oh, ps, I'm green with jealousy lol.

How exactly does one get catalysts besides the super packs?

and can we use ANY catalyst to enhance out ATO's? (like use a natural origin one if we aren't natural?)

Lukerion- 33 Emp/Rad Defender--Virtue
Noah Heartily- 34 SS/SD brute- Virtue

Catalysts also drop from Incarnate content (trials, and in i22, Dark Astoria).

There is only one type of catalyst, they're not separated by origin.
