Perf Shifter or 50+5 IO?
It depends on a lot of things, and personal preference.
Hi all,
A recent thread found that if you are going to 1-slot stamina you should put a perf shifter +end proc in it rather than a level 50 IO. What about in comparison to a level 50+5 EndMod IO? Is the perf shifter proc still better or does the +5 edge it out? Thanks! |
Well, let's just check the numbers here real quick-like...
Recovery
* Base recovery is 100% over 60s, which comes out to 1.66666% Endurance per second.
* Stamina is +25% Recovery, or 125% over 60s, aka 2.08333% Endurance per second.
* Since every character gets Stamina, we'll use that 2.08333% figure for our considerations.
Performance Shifter
* Performance Shifter's proc, in Stamina, is 20% for 10% of max Endurance every 10s.
* Performance Shifter, therefore, averages out to 0.2% Endurance per second.
Level 50 IO
* A level 50 Endurance Modification IO is +42.4%, bringing Stamina's boost up to +35.6%
* With that IO, Recovery becomes 135.6% over 60s, which is 2.26% Endurance per second.
* The EMod IO, therefore, brings a net boost of 0.17666% Endurance per second.
Level 50+5 IO
* A level 50+5 Endurance Modification IO is +53%, bringing Stamina's boost up to +38.25%
* With that IO, Recovery becomes 138.25% over 60s, which is 2.30416% Endurance per second.
* The EMod IO, therefore, brings a net boost of 0.22083% Endurance per second.
The verdict:
* If you absolutely MUST 1-slot Stamina...
* A Performance Shifter proc will do you more good than a level 50 Endurance Modification IO.
* A level 50+5 Endurance Modification IO will do you more good than a Performance Shifter proc.

Another other point of consideration is, any set bonuses or accolades that add
to Max Endurance will also have a corresponding effect on the Perf Shifter proc,
since it returns 10% of "maximum endurance".
So, for my money, if I could *only* have one slot in Stamina, I'd be putting
the Perf Shifter Proc in it -- hands down.

It does make for a happy surprise when a sapper just gave you a hard time, or if you use a nuke power. |
The thing people are missing is that there is an 80% chance that the proc will not fire every 10 seconds. Which means there's a greater chance that it will fail to fire for an entire minute straight (26%) than the chance that it will successfully fire on any particular 10 second tick (20%). The chance of it not proccing over 30 seconds is 51%, which means that in most fights the lowly level 50 IO will give you a better recovery rate.
The proc can only be counted on to provide an extra boost of endurance over longer periods of time, as in a long, drawn-out battle. It should be considered an adjunct to an end-hungry build that's already maxed out its other sources of recovery.
The point of the proc (and of most procs) is that is it recovery that happens outside of the ED caps. So, the optimal slotting is with IOs until you are over the ED-cap, then a proc. The same is true with DMG procs in attacks. You are basically capped at the dmg you can increase directly, so adding the proc is an extra enhancement on top of that. The cost you pay for that bonus is not knowing when/if they will fire.
Back to point of this discussion: The numbers, while in favor of the proc w/o boosters, and in favor of the IO with boosters, are nearly the same. I would say they are effectively insignificant. The straight enhancement will give you more predictable recovery, which is, IMO, a far better option. So, if you are single-slotting, use the IO. The Proc comes into play when you are capped or nearly capped by the first IO, and want to gain almost (or slightly more) recovery from a second enhancement without being 'penalized' by the ED-cap.

Regular recovery works this way as well, afaik (at least, it is how health/regen works and I would be very surprised in END worked differently). You recover a % of your total END. So the above argument is moot, since both proc and steady recovery are based on a % of your Max END.

Mids' treats it as you describe, so I must be confusing it with something else.

That said, I'd still be fine with just the Proc (although, I don't have a single toon
with Stamina that *only* has a single slot)
Anyway, thanks for the correction - good to know.
