Powerset for a new player?
Not meaning to sound like a jerk here but why are you inviting her to the game to play by herself?
One of the reasons I like getting my wife to play an mmo is so we can have fun working through it together. Its a moderately good way to spend time together, you can teach her as you go, roleplay, have some fun, etc, it's a cheap date.
Ah well that aside. In terms of at and powersets, it her char not yours, sit down with her and ask her what she'd be interested in trying and what each type does. Know the pros and cons of each set. If you make the decision for her she'll have zero investment. Encourage her to think up the superhero she'd like to be, a cool costume and a nice story about where she/he it came from.
Sorry, all that said and done. Perhaps suggest a controller or dominator as well not necessarily because they fit your description but because a cc class is something that wow killed out of a lot of games. So is a buff and debuff class I suppose.
Either way, hope you two have fun.
Obviously we would be duoing most of the time, sorry if I didnt say that :P My emphasis on the solo thing is for those times when im not there, for whatever the reason.
I already started explaining her the different sets and ATs, and she ended telling me "you know what I like, you chose it for me". Thats why I am doing this :P
Fire/Dark sounds like a really good idea.
Dark Miasma was my first support set, and I really liked it for the solo and team usefulness. It may get a bit end heavy, but for a new player who isnt racing through everything at breakneck speed, that doesnt matter.
I had a friend in exactly the same situation, playing the same game, who came here as a freebie and I ended up recommending the same powerset. Fire/Dark is a great starter set.
I would suggest Fire/Dark. I have one and haven't respec'd him since fitness became inherent, but he's still a work horse.
You get a little of everything with Dark including a better heal than Rad,and although he's brainless dark fluffy can supplement your healing and take aggro for her.
Additionally Tar Patch and RoF work better together than Lingering Rad, Ef and RoF, at least for me they do.
Then you have Fearsome Stare and Howling Twilight (Which I use as an attack more than a rez) to keep enemies at bay.
Unless conceptually she likes Rad, go Dark all the way!

While I agree with the posters here about fire/dark being an excellent choice, I would add that the corruptor I personally had the most fun playing to level 50 was my DP/traps.

You can chose to play traps the way I think it was intended, which is set them up and pull mobs. Which doesn't jive too well with teams nowadays as players just plow through things.
Or you can use traps in the middle of fights which may leave you without being able to use Trip Mines (Interruptable). And again with the fast paced teams, by the time you plant Acid Mortar and Poison Trap the mob is already done.
IMO Traps works better solo so you can decide what style you want to use and play at your own pace.
But yes Traps is the most fun I have had with a defender or corruptor.
My only wish is that the devs would evolve the set to work better with today's game. IE getting rid of the interrupt in Trip Mines or allow interrupt slotting and getting rid of Time Bomb in favor of a Director 11 type multiple mine lay.

Fire/Dark is a good way to go especially for free players.
If you are going to go premium or VIP I think fire/time or sonic/time would be great sets for new players. Between /time and /dark I personally think /time is easier to use for a new player, and they have a lot of overlap. /dark does have the stealth aura which is really nice as a new player, but it can easily be fixed with a stealth IO or super speed on a /time build. And if you take PBU in your APP it is pretty easy to soft cap /time without having to kill your endurance. Of course if you want to do some solo AV/GM hunting later, you should stick to /dark for the better -regen debuff. Another advantage time has is the heal doesn't require a hit check.
As far as primary, fire is just fantastic damage, combined with the tanky goodness that time can provide its golden. Sonic doesn't pack the aoe damage that fire does, but it makes up for it with a great aoe sleep and the -res stacking on the attacks, which is amplified even more in conjunction with slowed response from /time. Solo sonic won't hit the same dps as fire will, but in a group it really shines. And if you go incarnate and get some pets, your pets will benefit from the -res stacks from sonic as well.
My sonic/time is the 2nd corrupter I've made, the 1st being fire/dark. And my sonic/time seems a lot sturdier than my fire/dark. In fact I'd have to say it feels as sturdy as my scrappers for the most part. I have no issues jumping into large multiple boss packs and even on teams of 8 I have never died from taking the alpha for the group, even in cases of multiple group aggro. For new players it totally passes the no faceplanting nor resting tests.
Speed is relative, 3 attack chain kills most minions (depends on group, most attacks are 50/50 smash/energy), 5 attack chain kills most Lts, more for bosses, but on the flip side I almost never have to use my heal and only go lower than 50% endurance if I'm throwing out tons of control. Usually a good siren's song will put most if not all the mobs to sleep and the -to hit aura makes the left overs harmless.
Fire/Dark is always nice. Rad/Storm is always fun and flashy.
Whining about everything since 2006.
Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

Thanks all for the answer. Once I sit with her (next month, hopefully, since we have a lot going on now), I'll try explaining her again the sets and what can each of them do, but if she asks me for recommendations I'll go fire/dark as planned
I'm trying to make my gf like the game. Right now she is playing lotro, so she is not completely new to MMOs. She plays a Minstrel as main, and also has a captain, a LM, and a hunter (you see the trend of no meleers)
I've been thinking on what AT/set to start. I think corruptors is the answer. Has enough support to remind her of her lotro characters (minstrel, cap), and good DPS so she wont hate the game because of slow levelling.
That said. What would you choose? I was thinking on going Fire/Dark or Fire/Rad.
Fire/ is the easy option. I know she will love scourging rain of fire.
For the secondary, I must say that I'm in love with Dark Miasma, so I may be biased here, but I have the feeling that DM is an easy powerset (fear, heal when needed, DN if a lot of tough mobs, more fear, and the pet to let you slack), and very powerful. I know that rad is very potent but I just cant stand playing it so I dont know if it will make for a good levelling set. I know is very potent at end game and an AV melter, but I also know that /Dark can handle just about anything between -tohit debuff, fears, heals, and a pet
I would prefer not having to rely on sets that are late bloomers (like /Cold), or that to rely on buffing your team mates every X mins (because I know her and she will forget, also these sets are more suited for team play than solo play).
So any suggestion? Remember we are talking about someone new, no IOs, slow levelling
