Ceres is also the goddess Demeter, which is also an asteroid... except Ceres is more accurately a dwarf-planet. The largest asteroid then becomes her sister, the goddess Vesta. It's a crazy incestuous mess, which is unsurprising any time you involve the Greek & Roman deities.
Asteroids are 'star-like' by definition, though that does not appear to be literally the case.
