Interesting tidbit from The Economist
Yes, that's not a new piece of info, actually. DDO saw an even larger increase, as I recall. Not every f2p MMO has been so successful, but it does certainly explain why a lot of games have gone that way.
I can believe it seeing how much I've payed to Paragon Studios since it went to F2P with little features like...extra costume slots, extra enhancement trays, the costume bundles I was buying before and after...and oh yeah...wanting to make those purple set IOs +5 >_>;;

It's important to take this info with a grain of salt.
Triple revenue is great, but what was their revenue beforehand?

3 times as less as it is now

3 times as much is still better than the 3 times as less.
No where did they say they were becoming the billionairs that WoW is making a company, but three times the return as before is always a good thing for every company.
Now, if they're making three times as much as before and still LOSING money, well, I'd hope they'd just shut down.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one. F2P hasn't been so F. =P

The Dec 10-16 issue of The Economist contains a special report on the video game industry. One little factoid that jumped out at me was a statement from Turbine that LotRO revenues *tripled* when they switched from subscription to Freemium.
