Aid Self + Softcap
It isn't. I don't run aid self, but it is very rare I get hit twice in a row, even on an iTrial. For instance, more often than not, blinky clicking on a trial doesn't get interrupted, and that is a few seconds.
I'd ignore the interrupt and try to slot for bonuses from Doctored Wounds or frankenslot for heal and recharge.

I have tried it both ways. With or without.
Most of the time, that interrupt didn't really do anything. However, when I really needed a heal, the times I had the interrupt IO had less of a chance of it getting interrupted. I would suggest it, but if the build is tight you don't need it.
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
What Pine said.
I"d be sure that I could invest 5 slots at least before nabbing Aid Self, preferably 6. One Interupt IO + Five slotted Doctored Wounds/Numina.
Usually you can get away without the Interupt IO, but when you're surrounded by baddies the chances the Random Number Gods will turn against you grow. That fraction of a second can spell the difference between getting HP back and wasting Endurance.
You're forgetting that there are auto-hit powers that are essentially toggles (or pseudo-pets, with toggles) with activation times for their powers that are less than 1 second. In those circumstances, you have to "leave the area" to not be interrupted when using Aid Self. My "favorite" annoyance along these lines is Caltrops (thank you Knives of Artemis), although the PBAoE aura around CoT Death Mages also ranks up there. Any sort of "world shaking" target AoE Knockdown effect also interrupts, even if you have enough KB protection to not be knocked off your feet ... simply because the effect is auto-hit and your Defenses don't prevent you from being hit.
If you're running SR or SD at softcap, I'd strongly suggest taking a long hard look at getting Aid Self at all. If you do, based on how I used to use Aid Self the interrupt reduction generally won't matter that much. It's nice but the big cost of Aid self is seconds not spent BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, not endurance.
you're not slotting interrupts in aidself for the probability of getting hit while soft capped... should be slotting interrupts if you want to remain mobile. slotting ints pretty much allows you to move after you click aidself

I still say one Interupt to avoid lucky hits, but yeah.
If I'm running a softcapped Shield Defense or SR build, how necessary is a -interrupt IO in Aid Self? The single IO takes it down from 1 sec interrupt to .66 sec, but if I'm softcapped, do I really need to worry about getting interrupted? (Trying to free up a couple slots)
In this case, the difference in the slot would be the difference between 43.6 AoE def on a shield with the -interrupt, or 45.1 AoE def without
