The Players Board
/jranger
I don't think that players should be made into congressmen. I have enough trouble with my existing elected officials. I don't need anyone to intercede to the devs on my behalf. I have the forums. I have private messages. And if I felt it necessary, I could call, write, or go pound on their office door until someone answered.
While I haven't always agreed with decisions they have made, I have always felt that my voice was heard and my position considered, even if eventually disregarded. If we had elected players I don't think I would have those feelings.

Little secret.
There already is a very small group that the devs listen to, and its not always a good thing. |
Lurking and waiting to strike.
While i can understand the appeal of the Players Board concept i don't think it's all that workable or useful in the proposed context. Most of the players whose knowledge and judgment i have the most regard for already have ongoing contact with the Devs even if it's simply by PMing them. Things like the Pummit panels, the Ustream chats, and the boards already supply other avenues of contact. Overall the level of Dev interaction with the playerbase exceeds my expectations and any other sizable MMO i've heard of. (Take that, Victorian grammar Nazis!) Of course it can always be better, but even with further reflection i don't think the Players Board would be the best solution.
*Unless we're talking the Rage crash damage debuff, but that's neither unexpected, unknown or at all mysterious.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
I don't think that the problem exists that such a board would help "fix".
I think there's a great connection between the playerbase and the devs.
There may be differences, sure and nothing is perfect...
...But if you objectively analyze the understanding between most people's (personal and business) relationships and that from the relationships between the players and the Devs... you'd probably find the player-dev understanding to be quite above average.
It seems to be a pretty successful relationship to me.
Of course... the nasty home-wrecking publishers/marketing-teams always cause a ton of problems!

But if you have more wits about you than some grumpy old man you know then you can get them to take your picture under the sign for the Justice conference room.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
