Storms and PvP

Storm Summoning has been one of my favorite powersets forever, and I have 3 50s (Ice/Storm, Storm/Dark, Mind/Storm) and a couple of 40s just sitting at that level range (Storm/Sonic, Necro/Storm). Now pretty much all of these were viable back before I quit the game around i11-i12 (it was 3-4 years ago), but I know storms took a big hit with all the i13 changes.

So I'm just wondering, can storms be at all viable under the current system? (Edit: mostly concerned w/ arena)

Because I was once in dUmb I feel the need to say, yes a team running two grav/storms can indeed be viable.

I think there's a video on youtube of dUmb turtling on Eden with a storm team in the first FPvPL, that's a fun one...

Good to know. May start a Grav/Storm soon then. But I take it the toggle dropping of Hurricane would hurt too much if I tried to duel with the Mind/Storm or Storm/Dark? (I know Ice/anything is supposed to be terrible nowadays)

Honestly with incarnates, pretty much anything is viable. Incarnates give your toon such an amazing boost. The storm/dark could work but it would be hard dueling stronger 1v1 toons. I think a storm/dark with levi or soul mastery could do quite well and if you are motivated enough to get multiple destiny and interface slots then that would help as you could switch in the -tohit interface vs blasters and then stick to reactive for most other builds.

With cardiac available, your endurance would be solid, you would just need to be a boss with freezing rain to really apply pressure. It's surprising how many people have end issues in this game and if they're stupid enough to play into your lightning storms like most people are then you could do well. Anything that pops aim or BU just web grenade and evade until it's gone.

...Also don't forget hurricane stays on the target for a short while even when it's detoggled so don't worry about the debuffing being removed when they detoggle you

Btw Ice/poison is very viable so not every ice/* set is terrible.

I'm also a big fan of storms

Hope this helped.

Morti.

I also have a Storm/Dark defender that I would love to PvP with. I can see it working but not so much for zone PvP (which is what I'd be up for most of the times). I guess small maps would be the best bet.

I'll be transfering my toon to Freedumb and try to come up with a decent(ish) build. Let me know if you have one you could share!

Storm/Dark is kind of a similar concept as a Rad/Dark or something along those lines, stacking -tohit for survivability (hurricane/dark attacks) as well as using your other debuffs as much as you can. The Lightning Storm one can drain end really fast if people get too close. It's a good build, honestly.

Just use your mind/storm. Gale's unresisted KB + confuse + placate proc + hold all on separate timers (I think). You won't die.

technically correct, but sleeps and holds are on the same timer, so if you use mesmerize, you won't be able to set up adequate holds for containment damage.

edit: i actually played my rad/storm from i13 to about i16 with a good amount of success in both zone and small teams. that was before cardiac. i gather that the build now is gonna be far more forgiving given that stamina is inherent and things like the -to-hit interface and rebirth add to your survivability.

I had considered rolling a storm fender of some kind somewhat recently, but my building boredom with this game kept me from actually doing it. They are definitely viable in zone and small teams, probably duels also. They have also been used successfully in 8v8 teams, as Lib would confirm with dUmb. They have obvious weaknesses compared to other debuffers and what not, but they still have their place, imo.

Gale is unresisted? Never heard that...nice for Freezing Rain if it's true.

Not sure if it is unresisted but it does apply its knockback twice within a small enough window for it to stack with itself so it punches through 45+ points of KB protection when slotted.

Just out of curiosity, which Storm combos (both troller and defender) would you consider to do well/fine in RV?

I think if you are going to make a storm, you would definitely want a fender. Beyond that, you would probably want to either go storm/dark for kind of added survivability, or storm/fire if you want a damage focused secondary. I don't think storm trollers are nearly as good as they were pre-i13, while Storm fenders can still dish out some pretty good debuffs and damage, especially if you are able to land freezing rain reliably, and keep them hurricane'd and stuff.

Lol, if I had known that I would have pushed for Fap to use gale, would have made for nice stalker setups.......

Lol, apparently you misunderstood how things work around here. I can say whatever I feel like saying. You on the otherhand, will retreat slowly but surely, until you shut up completly. Notice the "insert WARE comment here.", instead of an actual ware comment, I've reduced you to. ^_^

That's awesome news actually. My fave toon happens to be Storm/Dark You think you could put a build together for me? I'm funded, but I wouldn't want to spend 10bil on a build. Just something that would work fine.

Cheers.

Possibly, but I've never played a Stormy very extensively, so any build I make for a Stormy should probably be taken with a grain of salt. I'll look into it later, just checking the boards before bed.
